The show is almost ready to start. I'm standing by
the balconies away from the crowd, drink in hand,
trying to entertain myself in this gathering of
aristocrats.

This is the same champagne me and Kurama had last
night. Bubbly, crisp and better than Merlot or
Reisling. Kurama finds Dom Perignon sweet, I find it
bitter but refreshing, I guess that shows the
difference between our sugar tolerance.

I can sense Kurama's tension behind the stage, I have
passes so I can go there and see for myself how he was
doing but I also know it's just pre-show nervousness.

Behind me is the glittering city, full of lights that
try to defy the dark cloak of Mistress Night. The air
is crisp and snow is falling, light and fine, like
Father Winter had decided to sprinkle everything with
glitters.

Hn, I am reminded of this statement I overheard just
a few minuites ago, that Father Winter is gay and he
wears white frilly petticoats and lace. Proof? He
powders everything white to match his beard and blue
snowflake patterened lace gown then sprinkles glitters
to make things prettier. I had smiled at the idea,
because where I came from, winter is a cold bitter
woman.

The soak I had did me good, I feel renewed. The tame
potted plants in our bath had become a lush jungle and
their freshness had infused themselves into my senses.

I sipped my champagne slowly savoring it's bouquet,
it's bubbly crisp feel, the tang it leaves on my
tounge. I like it a lot but I can't have too many or
I'll fall asleep and there's something I have to stay
up for.

The golden lights from the crystal chandeliers gave a
surreal touch to this milling crowd.

I watched ladies dressed in full colors like
butterflies or peacocks flashing their feathers,
precious stones sparkled on their throats and dangled
from their earlobes, rings and bracelets accentuated
their hands. They are accompanied by males dressed in
more subdued colors and attires that makes them look
like they are in uniform. Well some males, there were
2 or three in bright colored suits and one in a suit
that sparkled.

I want this life. The wealth I'm wallowing in, the
champagne, the hot tub, the rooms, the new places, our
interesting misadventures, the new people we meet...

Some guy is talking on the stage, making jokes and
welcoming everybody, he seems to be a celebrity
because people are paying attention to him, and a lot
of them know him. The crowd had also began to take
their seats, I stayed away from the lot, they don't
know me and I'd like to keep it that way.

How did I entertain myself in a crowd I'd rather be
anonymous in? I passed time by gently touching one
mind after another, seeking out the person with the
most wealth in their house. Well who knows? Kurama is
the best thief around and I'm not a shabby one either
even if my calling is that of an assasin. I heard
being an assasin pays good in this world, but Koenma
will never let me get away with it. Ch.

So far, I have found a man who would take a bar of
solid gold from his safe and put it under his pillow
so he can sleep well, and another who has a millon
dollars in cash hidden behind a plasterwall instead of
the safeboxes he has. I have their addresses
memorized, because I know the Youko would find that
gold bar guy amusing.

He would want to go in and try out the security,
and he'll either scratch his name on the gold bar or
leave a note just to antagonize the owner.

That would be good for a laugh ne?

Hn? Someone wants to talk to me.... Pfefferberg?

"Mr. Jaganashi?" I turned towards the right
direction. I met Pfefferberg at the diamond district
he's Mr. Oppenheimer's associate, he held his hand out
to shake mine when he got near enough.

"Miles Pfefferberg." I greeted him as I shook his
hand.

"Didn't expect to see you here, you got coerced into
coming to?" he smiled, he has his own flute of
champagne and is dressed in a black tuxedo like most
of the men.

I raised a brow at his inquiry "In a way."

He chuckled "Where's Mr. Minamino?" he asked and I
took a drink to give myself time to think.

"I'm here with someone else." well it's no use lying,
he's going to see me with the Youko, and if I know him
he'll want everyone to see me and know who we are to
each other.

"Ahh. Well, we have a table near the stage, I saw you
standing here and I thought I'd invite you over." he
came closer and whispered "I barely know anybody on
that table and I'd be happy to have someone to talk
to." he said.

I smirked at him, I saw my designated seat earlier
and it was right next to the stage too, I knew no one
on that table, seems we are in the same fix. "Talking
isn't my best suit, that's Shuichi's."

He shrugged, "I wasn't born to wealth but my wife is,
she belongs to this world and I feel completely out of
place. Can I stay here for a while?"

"Sure. Feel free." Miles is in his late twenties
looking prim in his Tuxedo and very uncomfortable. I'm
glad Kurama chose clothes that fit me well and
comfortably. I don't have those ribbon or tie things
around my throat nor do I have those stiff starchy
shirts. I feel like I wore almost the same thing I had
on this afternoon, except this suit was made of finer
materials.

"Waiter." he called and excused himself for a few
minuites. When he returned he had a small plate of
crackers that had an assortment of cheeses on them,
and several that had slices of meat. "This and
champagne, that's what they'll serve now. There's a
buffet table over there but I'm not really hungry." he
eyed the crackers "I'm not sure these are kosher
either."

"Kosher?" I asked.

"Clean, you know, it's a Jew thing." he said as he
picked up a cracker that had some white cheese on it.
"You can have the meat ones, they said it's roast
beef."

"Your a Jew?" he looked at me and nodded.

"Yessir, most of the guys at deBeers and the diamond
district are." I picked up a cracker with some slices
of meat on it and ate it whole because I doubt they'll
serve anything poisoned or dirty to this crowd.

"What do you mean when you say clean?" I asked
because the food seemed alright.

He smiled at me "Looks like we do have something to
talk about." he picked up another cracker that had
some red cheese and an olive on it. "Kosher 101. We
don't eat any foods that been derived from an animal
that has only 1 stomach or a whole toe, no blood
whatsoever must be mingled in the food so each egg
must be checked for gemination, no pork, no horse
meat, no....."

He went on and on, I found it interesting that a God
would restrict what kind of food his people might eat.
He was explaining something about the Pentateuch and
the Torah when the music began and the lights went
down, I looked towards the stage and he fell quiet.
The announcer told us to find our seats.

"O well, let's get to our seats, where's your table?
You're still welcome to ours if you want, we seem to
have an extra seat for a lady who couldn't come. Her
cousin said she's in dispose, I dunno what that means
but her cousin said she won't be here till very late."
He invited me with a gesture and I followed. His table
was right next to the catwalk and to one side, right
besides my designated table. I paid attention when he
introduced me to the people around it.

Imagine my suprised when I found that old woman from
the diamond district, the one who pissed me off. She's
a friend of Mile's wife, and she's here with her
husband.

The fur was off but she's wearing more diamonds now.
She recognized me too. Hn, she's Joan Whitfields I
stared at her pointedly before I nodded to the others
who were introduced to me.

Does this night get any better? Seems Joan Whitfields
knew our friends Brittany and Allison. I shouldn't be
in this table, or... I suppressed a grin, staying here
will be much more interesting. Heh, I'm starting to
think like the Youko.

Brittany assured me that her cousin Allison will be
late and that I can have her seat for the time being.
I thanked her politely and stood behind the empty seat
next to hers while I was introduced to the rest of the
party. She was asleep and under Kurama's spell, so she
wouldn't know the sound of my voice.

Pfefferberg had introduced me as a Japanese diamond
merchant, so when I didn't shake their hands and just
inclined my head at each introduction they did not
mind. Behind me and to my right is a table occupied by
men, my empty seat is directly in front of the stage.
Gio was true to his words.

The remains of their meals were being taken away. I
had not eaten, I wasn't really hungry and the tension
from Kurama was enough to make me loose my appetite.

I excused myself before I angled my seat to face the
stage, no had to tell me I had to execute those
manners Kurama had been patiently teaching me during
our Reikai Tantei days.

"So Mr. Jaganashi, how's New York been treating you?
Must be an extreme change from Tokyo right?" One of
them tried to engage me in conversation.

I looked at Mr. Whitfields and nodded "Quite.
Different culture." I sensed Kurama's exitement peak
and I almost broke the glass I was holding. I nodded
at him to end our conversation and looked at the
catwalk.

The music changed and women started walking out on
the stage that jutted out towards the dining tables,
tall underfed women. Why would they do that to these
women? Ch, that's too bad, they're really pretty.

More pretty underfed women came out and went back
towards the maroon curtains. I was getting bored when
I felt Kurama relax, then my jaw fell as he stepped
out of the shadows behind those curtains.

If you asked me what he wore I would not have been
able to tell you. He walked like he normally would but
I could see all lights seemed to gather around him. He
had his head down initially, his silver white hair
flew around his shoulders framing his body. When he
looked up, his eyes nailed me to my seat.

He's human, he's exuding reiki but...

I felt/heard people gasp and stare, I watched him
like he was in slow motion, he glanced around and
found me, he winked and that snapped me out of
whatever spell he cast. He took his coat off turned
around and walked back down the aisle, my eyes glued
to his slightly swinging butt.

"Kisama." I rubbed my eyes when he was gone. How did
he do that?

"Who the hell was that?"

"Did you see that guy?"

"He's gorgeous, who is he?"

"What do you mean he's gorgeous? He's an animal!"

"No an angel."

"Jesus! I couldn't take my eyes off him!"

There were more murmurs and I could see heads coming
together on every table to discuss what they just saw.

"It's him! The one we saw down the hall." Brittany
said her voice almost drowned by the general buzzing
of the crowd.

"Oh! Are you alright Mr Jaganashi?" Mrs. Pfefferberg
asked.

She held her table napkin to my hand and I saw the
broken flute. I was holding the glass on the stem like
Kurama taught me and I had snapped it in two. "Yes.
Thank you for inquiring." I left the lower half of
the glass on the table and finished off my champagne
before I laid it down on the table

"I know Giovanni Scarlatti," Hn, that Whitfields
woman "I've asked him to design clothes for me,
remmeber that black and red dress suit I wore to the
gala? Well, he's one of the featured designers here,
I'll ask him who that model is after the show."

I looked over my shoulder at her and said "That was
Fox." I wanted more champagne, so I turned away from
them and looked for a waiter. I caught his attention
with a light mental tap and gestured for him with a
hand.

"Fox? His name is Fox? You know him? Oh my God! Ally
and I were going back to our rooms this afternoon when
we saw him. I bumped into her because she stopped dead
in her tracks and before she fainted she said 'It's
him! The Fox demon!'" She chuckled "My silly cousin
had a nightmare you see? But she must have seen him
somewhere before because he is most certainly, very
hard to forget, he's absolutely gorgeous! You see sir,
Ally had him in a nightmare she dreamed he had fox
ears on his head and a silver fox tail." She gave a
cultured laugh then leaned in closer "Does he have a
surname? If he would talk to my cousin, I'm sure he
can alleviate her silly fear of her silver fox coat."

Hn, no way in hell am I letting this human talk to my
beloved. I guess our secret is safe but, HAD 'him' in
a nightmare? HAD HIM?

"Just Fox. He's my partner." I didn't elaborate,
because I might add something unwise about the HAD HIM
issue. I could feel them wanting to ask me more
questions but I looked away. No one HAD my kitsune, he
was playing with her.

Dammit I'm getting jealous over nothing again.

The waiter approached me with a puzzled look in his
face as he presented his tray. I took a fresh glass
and nodded my thanks.

"Business partner?" she pressed undeterred by my
manner. Damn, I wish I didn't see Pfefferberg, Kurama
and I never discussed this, but then again, this is
quite an interesting fix we're in. No, I don't want to
interfere with his thoughts right now, he's busy
running around getting dressed and going in line, and
that eye annoys me!

I had opened myself to him because I felt his faint
Youki dissapear, I though something bad happened to
him, I almost slipped in my haste to get out of the
tub. Then I felt his reiki, he was alright, but...
while I was talking to him, the incessant ramblings of
that Eye made it almost hard to hear him.

It showed me more visions and said more of the same
things. But now I know I can't talk to Kurama's mind
without that other voice interfering. It's like having
2 radios on, one playing soft instrumental music and
the other loud rock music.

Ch, now I have to think of what to say to this woman
without consulting Kurama. And then there's that
Whitfields woman to complicate matters. She saw me
with Shuichi and I cannot, will not, deny Kurama in
public no matter what form he's in.

I looked her in the eye and said "He's my lover."

I saw that she couldn't believe what I just told her,
I can see it in her eyes, she's questioning the height
discrepancy, asking herself how could someone as tall
and beautiful as him fall for someone as short and
strange as me. Hn, I was asking myself that self same
question, I should ask Kurama one of these days.

But she came to a conclusion that reinforced my
don't-listen-to-the-petty-human's-thoughts policy. She
thinks Kurama became mine because of my money. It
elevated my status at his expense and I did not like
it. But I do not owe this woman an explanation either.
She must have seen my displeasure because she made an
effort to be nice.

"Really? But it seems so unlikely. I'm very
interested in your story sir, how did you meet him?"
Everyones eyes turned to me, including those behind me
in the next table who overheard her. Thanks to her I
have my own damned audience.

Truth is... my trust in Kurama was shaken by the fact
that he actually thought of knocking me out so he can
leave me and keep me safe. When I felt his Youki
flicker out I thought he abandoned me, I... alright I
almost panicked dammit.

I stopped myself from touching the throbbing mark he
had given me. But back then, I had sat on the edge of
the tub shivering with cold and relief while I pressed
on my wound concentrating on that ache, reminding
myself of Kurama's silent vows.

Then and now I had decided to place my trust in him.

But there will be trouble because this Whitfields
woman saw me in Minamino's arms, and we were about to
kiss. If I confirmed that Fox is my lover they'll
think I'm a two timing fag.

Hn, like I give a damn what they think.

I smirked at her and looked at the stage and I could
feel them eagerly waiting for my next words. I glanced
at the crowd in general and found everybody was also
waiting for the Fox to come out.

"Ask him later." I said as Kurama made a second
apperance, this time I paid attention to what he was
wearing.

He's dressed in black leather pants that moulded so
well to his hips he looked like he's been poured into
it. I could see the traces of his muscles as well as
the bulge of his crotch, it was cut so low on his
waist the black string of his thong showed. I
swallowed hard, the black silk shirt he wore was open
except for one button in the middle leaving his well
defined chest and stomach exposed. A pewter crucifix
rested on his chest, and I envied that piece of metal
because it was right next to his skin.

His skin looks so good.

And all that black made his hair shimmer stark white.
He turned then and I was left staring at his firm
round globes as he walked away, he's wearing knee high
black boots...

I gasped and realized I had held my breath. He didn't
do anything special, he just walked and moved
naturally, there was no unecessary hip movements, he
looked half bored and half amused, but everyones
attention was riveted to him. He had surveyed the
crowd like he was a prince and we were his adoring
vassals, it left me breathless.

Gods, this is bad... I drank half the flute and
pushed it away from me, I'm drooling again and I'm
starting to heat up...

"That, was a walking wet dream." The man besides me
on the next table said "You said his name is Fox?" he
asked me, he too looked breathless.

I nodded at him. "And he's your lover?" he asked and
I nodded again. He shook his head "How'd you get so
lucky? I'd kill for a guy like that."

I smirked at him "I will too." he chuckled.

"Geoffrey, call me Jeff." I shook his hand.

"Hiei." I answered him with my name. He nodded at me
grinning while he shook my hands, then his fingers
rubbed against my callouses and his lips made a silent
'o'.

In a tone of respect he said "He's extraordinarily
beautiful. In the first set he looked like the man of
every woman's dream, he was light and breezy and
squeaky clean in that business suit from Boss, then
this set turned him into a debauched gothic prince." I
saw the worship in his eyes before he shook his head
"Observe how everyone's watching the other models but
really staring at him. Watch the cameras, they flash
more everytime he comes out. He's going to be the next
big thing."

Hn, I can safely say that this is another plan that
became too successful.

And what he said was true, the annoying flashes
increased in frequency whenever my Kitsune walked the
isle. My heart swelled with pride as he flirted with
the audience. He would randomly fix his eyes at people
in the crowd and there were audible gasps or sighs.
And his attitude changed just a little with what he
wore, that bored look of his was every now and then
replaced by a vulnerable smile, an arrogant frown, a
smirk or his patented mischivious smile.

I think I know why he's more attractive. His energy
is now in the same wavelength as these humans, and
their adoration fed him their energies, making him
seem brighter, more... magnetic. This must be one of
the tricks the youkos used on humans to suck up their
energy.

I checked the reiki of the people around me and found
them elevated, hn, Kurama was returning as much as he
got, he wasn't draining them.

The hour and a half went by very fast. Kurama came
out several times and I made a point to observe what
he wore.

I wanted to strangle Tom and Gio to death, because
they chose the most revealing clothes to drape on my
Kurama, clothes normal men do not often wear. Like
hanging shirts and tight leather vests, billowy white
shirts with lace and fuzzy sweaters that show the
navel.

He even came out with no shirt, just a fake shaggy
black fur coat and a pair of dirty looking blue jeans.
The fur was purplish at the tips and a necklace of
leather, silver and shells was clasped right on his
throat. The pant's waist was so low it showed the rise
of his hips and the start of his nether hair. Now
everybody thinks he's silver down there too.

Besides me, Geoffrey had gasped covered his mouth and
muttered "Oh my God!" in a near squeal.

Of course he went out with normal clothes too, and he
somehow how made them look more exciting. But all of
us waited for the next set that will make us gasp.

When the final set was announced there was an air of
dissapointment. The announcer took the mic then and
explained that the last set was created for this
occasion. The wedding suits and gowns to celebrate gay
rights and culture.

Men and women came out then in white or black suits,
some women walked the isle alone in white sleek
dresses, or frilly white gowns, holding white
bouqets...

Ch, I'm not really that good with human dress speak
so I don't know how to describe them that well...
ah... Kurama!

I stopped breathing. Behind them walked my Kurama in
a silk embroidered long coat that was white and
bluish, like ice. A vest of deeper ice blue hugged his
chest showing his curves. His pants were immaculate
white as well as the shirt he wore and, thats not a
tie around his neck, it's a silky cloth knotted high
on his throat with the ends tucked under that vest. A
cravat, yes thats what it's called.

And his hair is gathered into a pony tail by a black
silk ribbon, it made his neck look long and naked,
despite the cravat that was covering most of it. He
carried a single white rose, his long fingers hidden
by white gloves. He looked elegant, cold, like a
figure from a fairytale.

And he's my bride.

I gasped for air, my heart missed a beat, then it
began hammering double time. I stared, I forgot
everything except the vision of Kurama as he opened
his coat and with gloved fingers paused to give
emphasis to the vest or whatever you call it by
putting his hand on his hip. He raised the rose to his
lips and I fell completely, utterly, hopelessly in
love.
Either that or I'm coming down with a terrible disease.

I don't know how else to describe what I feel right
now. The heat has risen to my cheeks, my throat is
tight, my suit is too hot for me, I can't breathe, my
stomach is upset, my head is throbbing, my fingers are
cold and clammy despite the warmth... I feel sick.

I drained my flute and set it back down carefully
because my fingers were shaking uncontrolably. He
looked down at me and he saw the state I was in.

//My bride.// I whispered and he blushed even as he
turned to survey the crowd.

//All yours beloved.// his thoughts washed over
mine, he smiled to no one in particular and walked
back towards the curtains.

That smile warmed me from within, it ease this...
illness he caused in me.

I don't know when my flute was replaced but I drank
half of that too.

The audience was clapping, they cheered the designers
and when they came out to take their bows the audience
rose to their feet and kept applauding.

I forgave those two bastards on the stage who were
taking their bows along with several other designers.
Tom and Gio have Kurama sandwitched between them, they
bent to recieve flowers and Kurama was surprised when
a bouquet was handed to him, he passed it on to one of
the lady designers.

He was very reserved, nodding and smiling to some of
the people who came forward. Gio saw me then, he bent
over the stage and reached behind some men to shake my
hand. I stood up to acknowledge this compliment, the
others were jostling for space to congratulate him and
here he was going out of his way to shake my hand.

Alright, I won't try and choke them to death or burn
them to cinders later.

"Thank you Signiore Hiei." I nodded at him and Tom
waved at me with a cheery "Thanks man!"

Kurama placed two fingers on his lips and blew me a
kiss, I nodded my approval of him. They turned then to
recieve more accolades before they made their way back
behind the curtains.

"Hiei?" I turned towards my new acquaintance Jeff,
who was looking at me with great wonder as I returned
to my seat. He took my hand and shook it "Keep him
well, he's... increadible." he let my hand go "I've
never seen such compromising clothes carried with such
grace and... and... " he threw his hands in the air.
"dignity." he said with disbelief "He's untouchable,
he can go naked for all the world to see and it will
be art." he looked at me again "Please Hiei, introduce
me? I just want to shake his hand, that's all."

Increadible, yes, and he's all mine! "Of course."I
smirked at him "He'll come here when he's done
backstage."

I sat back and sipped my champagne, then I remmebered
Brittany, I turned to look at her and found her
looking at me with a sly smile. Next to her, is her
cousin Allison, her face was etched with disbelief
bordering on fear, her entire body rigid, as if she
had frozen on that spot. Hn, she also looked like she
hadn't been getting a lot of sleep.

I smirked at them.

"What did you say his name was?" Allison breathed her
question.

"Fox." She went pale as she recognized my voice then
she left the table so fast she was tripping on her
heels.

"Allison! You just got here- excuse us. Ally!"
Brittany went after her.

The Whitfields woman is gone too, the husband was
discussing something to a man besides him. Pfefferberg
was looking at me with a question in his eyes. I know
what that question is and I get a feeling this part of
the night is going to be about that question.
