After the horror movie had ended and the tub of sweet snow was finished Kurama went upstairs to finish his homework and go to bed. Hiei decided on sleeping downstairs on the couch. Kurama tried to persuade him into the guest bedroom upstairs but Hiei said he wanted to be downstairs. The red headed teen sighed and gave up, walking up the stairs.
“If you change your mind you know where the guest room is,” Kurama said as he walked upstairs. Hiei sat on the white couch with his legs against his chest. He didn't look pathetic or scared, he just looked like that was a comfortable way for him to be sitting. He nodded slightly to Kurama who then slipped up the stairs and flicked the lights off. The lamp on the bedside table sent a bright glow in a small circle around the couch, but the living room and kitchen lights were off. Hiei looked around in the dark, the light from the lamp shone off of the black TV screen. He sighed a bit and leaned back against the arm of the couch and his pillow.
“I'm being stupid,” Hiei grumbled to himself as he rolled onto his side, “He isn't going to come after me here.”
Frowning to himself he reached up and turned off the light and closed his eyes. If he kept them open they would get used to the dark and he'd never be able to fall asleep. The black haired teen took a huge breath and let it out as he started to finally fall asleep.

The black behind Hiei's eyelids grew as it spread to every corner of his mind. Every ray of possible light faded from existence and his mind became dark. He started walking forward, or what felt like was forward and his foot steps lurched through the silence only to be sucked into a vacuum beyond his sight. There were no walls here; it was just a black hole. He flinched as a bright light flooded his mind for a second, just a spot light really, right in front of him. He squinted and saw a figure standing there, when he thought he saw who it was he took a step back.
“Not again!” Hiei said as he walked back.
“Hiei?” came the soothing voice. Hiei blinked and his eyes adjusted, he saw Kurama standing in the blade of light cutting through his mind.
“Kurama?” Hiei asked as he walked forward. Kurama looked at him and blinked curiously, reaching out a hand towards him.
“What are you doing, Hiei?” Kurama asked. Hiei started moving towards him but stopped suddenly as a shadowy figure appeared behind Kurama. Hiei's eyes widened as he took a step back, his hand partially out reached to Kurama. Kurama blinked again, “Hiei?”
“Kurama…” Hiei gasped partially. Kurama only blinked in response.
“Hiei, what's wrong?” Kurama asked as he started walking towards the teenager. Two hands grasped Hiei's upper arms so tight Hiei winced, a warm breath exhaled right at his ear.
“Yes Hiei. What's wrong?” his father's deep voice spoke against his ear. Hiei's eyes widened more as his body tensed.
“Kura-” Hiei started, the two set of hands squeezed so hard on his upper arms Hiei's voice was cut off as he winced again. He looked up at Kurama, the shock plain in his crimson eyes. The red headed teen had his back to Hiei with his hands in both his pockets, “Kur...Kurama?”
“You actually trusted me to protect something as pitiful as you? How pathetic,” Kurama said coldly over his shoulder. Hiei's pupils shrank as his eyes got larger if that was possible.
“He's been working for me the entire time, how do you think I knew where you were?” his father breathed against his ear. Hiei let out a soft yelp as his father's tongue brushed his ear lobe, he jerked his head away. He heard his father snigger softly at him.
“You're lying!” Hiei shouted at his father. His hands clenched to fists but he couldn't move, his father's grip was too strong and tensing his arms hurt him more then it was a threat.
“Lying?” Kurama laughed, but it was more like a snigger, something evil and dark, “The only person I've ever lied to was you Hiei.”
“This isn't happening. This isn't real. I'm dreaming. This isn't happening. This isn't real. I'm dreaming…” Hiei repeated over and over to himself. Kurama's laugh echoed through his mind as the walls reappeared. The hands slipped away from his arms and moved around his waist, slipping up so the warm fingertips brushed against his skin and under his shirt, his hands moved to his head nails digging into his skull but not enough to hurt, “This isn't happening. This isn't real. I'm dreaming!”

Hiei sat up so fast he became light headed, but he was already holding his head anyway. His scream didn't come out in more then a gasp, something moved in the dark and his head snapped in the direction he thought he saw it move. It was nothing except his vest falling off the chair. He shook his head repeatedly and closed his eyes, “It was only a dream. It was only a dream. It was only a dream…”
No matter how much he said it or how he believed it Hiei couldn't help but notice how a part of him just wanted to cry. To just curl up in a ball and cry because that was probably the worst dream he had had in a long time. He didn't however; he slipped back under the blanket and pulled it up around his shoulders, rolling so he faced out into the living room. It was just now he realized he had a head ache and his eyes were adjusted enough to the light that he could see his bag tossed in the chair and his vest on the ground. A silver knife of moonlight cut through the window and spilled a thin ray across the clean floor to the table. That was when Hiei noted a piece of paper out of place on the table. The raven haired teen frowned and sat up, reaching out he grabbed the paper and tried to read it in the dark. The bit of moonlight he had helped him greatly. It looked like…his father's hand writing.
Yusuke,
As a matter of what we spoke of earlier, just make sure I get my son and no one will be hurt. I'm also willing to pay you that sum of money you requested for him. I'm really prepared to do anything to get Hiei back. Don't let Kurama and Kuwabara know, it really could get very messy if those two are involved. Besides, that fool could spill something to Hiei and it would all be thrown off. Just make sure I get my son, and you'll get your money and never have to worry about Hiei and I again.
Sincerely,
Yoma Jaganshi
Hiei stared at the letter in shock, just pure shock. Yusuke's trying to help my father to get to me!? Hiei thought to himself, The same Yusuke that told me he would never betray me!? I knew I couldn't trust that little bastard. I knew it. The only one I can trust is myself. It's always been that way and it always will be.
Hiei crumbled up the letter in his fist, then opened it and ripped it into a million shreds only to mash it back together again. He got up and shoved it in his bag, then picked it up and moved it over next to the couch. After a few minutes of sitting there glaring at the opposite end of the cough the rage faded off into a lost and betrayed feeling. He looked through his bag until he found the picture of his sister. Yukina was smiling in the picture, it was hard to tell in the dark but it was sunny in it as well. Her hair was an unnatural pale blue and she had eyes as red as Hiei's, only bigger and more alive. Every time he looked at the picture it made him feel better, just knowing Yukina was smiling at him. She had stayed with their dad after Hiei's restraining order, it was the worst day of Hiei's life.
His mom had told him to pack, and pack fast. Yukina was sitting on her bed and watching him pack. Mom hadn't told her to pack and Hiei was so freaked out he didn't ask why.
“Why are you packing, Hiei?” she asked.
“I don't know. When we got home from court she just told me to pack,” Hiei told her as he stuffed his clothes in the bag. Yukina blinked and ran to her dresser, she picked up the one really good picture of herself that she had and pulled it from the frame, then gave it to her brother.
“Here, take this with you,” She said and smiled, he was nine and she was seven. Hiei blinked and took the picture, stuffing it in his bag as their mother came back in to get him.
“Come on Hiei, we're leaving,” She said, she was obviously crying. Yukina ran over to her and their mother kneeled down and hugged her tightly.
“You're coming back, right Mommy?” Yukina asked, she cried.
“As soon as I can Honey, your brother and I will come back to get you as soon as we can,” she said and let her daughter go. She took Hiei's hand and started pulling him out the door. They both left and she put Hiei in the car and shut the door. Hiei watched out the back window with tears streaming down his face as Yukina waved to him from the doorway.
That was the last time he saw her.
They never went back for Yukina. Three years after they left that house his mom killed herself and it was the last time he had cried. He didn't know if his sister was still alive, if she was still with their father, nothing. The restraining order kept him from getting contact with his father, the only reason he would have spoke to the man anyway was to find out about Yukina. When Hiei hit thirteen he asked his mom about it and she said the justice system was a failure and she couldn't get Yukina away from him, the court doubted Yoma's child molestation with Hiei and she was lucky to have got him out of there. Besides, he never went after Yukina. No one knew why, he just didn't.
The next day his mother killed herself.
Hiei put the picture back in the front pocket of his duffle bag to keep it safe from his clothes and other junk. He leaned back on the couch and pulled the blanket up around his shoulders again. Closing his red eyes he was so absorbed in the thought of his sister and the betrayal of Yusuke he didn't think about how the note had gotten there.
