Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Blame It On Me ❯ As If A Smile Could Fix A Death ( Chapter 1 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Just like before, before Yusuke’s team, there was another which also broke apart, but for a completely different reason. I was the part of that team, the only one to ‘survive’, if that’s the word you’d like to use. I was partners with Sensui who believed, like everyone else, that I would be the first to die if anything ever happened. Once Yusuke’s team broke up Koenma called me back to replace them, he also chose someone to partner with me. I had no choice in it. Hiei was nowhere to be found once again and the other three continued with their lives. Kurama already graduated from his high school and Kuwabara tried his hardest to graduate as well and made it. Now if only I was able to get on with my life.
I was surrounded by mutilated demons, no matter how I cut them they always came back until I killed them from the inside out with my power, the ability to control bones. I ripped them apart literally and crushed their bones to a fine powder. Soon enough the wind swept them away and I looked up. Above, on one of the beams, was a girl sitting down cross-legged. She stood on the beam and jumped down. A look of satisfaction spread across her face and I heard her voice rambling on and on, about what I’m not so sure of because I ignored her at the third word she said.
Investigating the place was waste of time. The demons were posing as priests and church members, the whole fight took place with screaming mortals running all over the place. It was distracting seeing all the children crying and staring in shock of the fighting around them. I managed to protect around twelve of them, two were killed in the cross fire of my attacks and the demons’. My ‘partner’, if you could call her that, watched from above in safety. I saw a dead child on the ground. She looked as if she was only around three and I knelt next to her in sorrow while brushing her hair away from her face. Soon enough, I saw her spirit and Botan. The child was still scared of me and I could accept that even though it hurt, but I smiled nicely at her trying to fix it. As if a smile could fix a death…
I took several minutes investigating the scene without coming up with a single theory of who was in charge of these demons or what their whole plan was. Koenma wanted us to attack, which is what caused the deaths of innocents and I stood there re-enacting everything and blaming myself, seeing all the wrong choices I made. It was my entire fault. I had a choice not to listen to Koenma but I stayed obedient against my own code; I was officially Koenma’s lackey once more.
Looking back at my partner I rolled my eyes at her stupidity, she was trying to avoid stepping in blood. She kicked one of the demons and muttered, “Filthy thing.” Then after a moment she sighed she decided it was best to get out by any means necessary and she stepped on all the bodies. I saw the instant her heels made contact with a child’s body and I ran and punched her, “Watch where you’re going!” She didn’t see the reason why I had attacked her without hesitation. “What’s you’re problem!?” she screamed out. I had to get away from the girl before I snapped. The thought of my appointment with my new college fixed everything and I flitted away from her and to my own dilapidated house.
The closet doors where moldy and ajar as well as the front door. I wasn’t in the best neighborhood in Japan. Silently I passed through the house gathering my stuff and I put on a brown ruffled skirt with a black blouse and red tie. Today I was going to go to the freshman orientation at the college that I applied to. It was supposed to be the best in Japan and I was defiantly not going to miss out on this. My hair was down to my shoulders and completely straight, which was the result of getting my hair dyed. I left my roots black but made the rest of my hair red and left some black streaks.
If I took any longer I would be late and so I took my leave and flitted straight to the college that was thirty miles away. There was a long line and because of the receptionist I wish it was longer. It seemed she was annoyed with everything, as if her job was the worst in the world. I made jokes in my head at this and finally stepped up to her when it was my turn. It was mandatory and everyone that was online was a freshman, it seems the school wanted to see how many freshmen were serious about their education and making them sign in at the front desk.
“Your name Miss?” she grunted loudly as if to tell everyone I wasn’t paying attention.
“Amethyst Sakura.” I grunted back angrily I wasn’t a people person.
“You’re registered, go up the staircase to your left until you reach the floor above us then walk down the hallway to your left and go through the double doors.”
I walked off but the in next second I stood still at a voice, “My name is Shuichi Minamino.”
Kurama
I waited, pretending I was searching for something in my messenger bag and then walked behind him into the staircase through the doors.
“I didn’t think demons would go so far as to apply for a college just for free meals.”
“What you and I call meals are two different things, I prefer steak, got that fox boy.”
“So you know who I am but I don’t know who you are.”
I hesitated wondering if it was worth it giving him my name or not, “Amethyst, your replacement according to Koenma.”
“So you say,” he said, still not completely sure whether it was a lie or not. I had no problem with this and continue my tread up the stairs.
The orientation took longer than I expected and most of the information soaked through into my memory. During that time I could tell a pair of emerald eyes watching me closely as if to expect something from me. The college offered food on a buffet stand and I took a couple of samples not wanting to hoard food from the ‘starving’ humans. I watched in disgust as they trampled over one of each other for a taste of the gourmet food. Again the sense of someone watching me took over my mind and I controlled it from turning into paranoia. Turning to see my surroundings, my heart speed, I was scared at Kurama standing next to me and frowning.
“You smell of human blood.” He said accusingly.
“It comes with the job.” I left his imagination, and what he thought of me, infer what I meant by that.
“You killed them.”
“You think I’m a stereotypical demon don’t you. Have you forgotten you too have a demonic side?” I asked him angry at the accusing questions being thrown at me.
“I don’t kill humans-“
“I never said I did. They got in the crossfire; the other demons were the murderers. I have to go now; I hope we don’t meet again.”
Though I doubt that would happen, otherwise… there’d be no story.
