~Chapter 3~

“Good, he's leaving,” thought the man, Hiei.
Hiei watched as Youko disappeared down the road; he then stood up straight and pulled on a mask so that the only thing visible was his eyes. His clothes were just as black as the mask, and very tight around his muscular body. A long katana, held securely in a pouch, hung at his side, tied around his waist with a red ribbon.
It's not quite dark enough to enter the house yet, many of the lights are still on, so I think I'll sit and wait, Hiei thought. He sat down on the branch and leaned against the trunk. He crossed his right leg over his left leg, and then raised his arms and rested them behind his head.
Back in the Minamino house, Shiori was just finishing up her dinner dishes and was thinking about heading off to bed.
“It is getting pretty late, and I don't want to keep bustling around down here because I don't want to disturb Shuichi. He's doing so well in school, keeping up his grades, and going to school everyday, I don't want to be the reason he might fail. Yea, I'm going to go bed,” Shiori said just as she rinsed off the last dish. She then dried her hands off on a dishtowel and laid the dishtowel neatly over the dishes.
As silently as Shiori could master, she walked around the house and turned off all the lights. She then headed up stairs and snuck past Kurama's room still trying to be quiet. When she entered her room she sighed deeply and got ready for bed.
While Shiori got ready for bed, Kurama was still laying on his bed in the same position. Tears fell from his eyes and soaked his face as he cried silently.
How could he do this to me, Kurama thought. He was afraid to move for fear the pain would be too much and he'd scream. He didn't want his mother to know. Youko was right, he did not want to make his mother worry.
I can get over this. I'll be okay, thought the redhead.
Kurama continued to think to himself and as he did, Shiori turned off her light, which was a signal to Hiei.
Standing up, Hiei stretched and decided it was time to attack. He jumped onto the roof and looked around the area. All the lights were out in the neighboring houses. Hiei smirked to himself and then jumped down to the ground. He began walking around the house, looking the house up and down. The thing Hiei was looking for was a way into the house, and to his delight a window stood wide open on the second floor. A tree was planted next to the house, and Hiei jumped onto the tree branch that sat closest to window. He looked into the darkened room and found an outline of a muscular man.
This has to be Kurama's room, Hiei thought. He smirked and jumped into the room as quietly as he could, but it was not quiet enough for Kurama heard the noise.
Kurama raised his head a bit and looked around the room, but Hiei had moved to a corner behind Kurama. Kurama glared around the room and guessed that Youko had returned.
“Go away Youko. You've done enough damage,” Kurama hissed into the darkness.
Hiei rolled his eyes and looked the man over. Hiei blushed a bit when he realized that the man was half naked, but he found it strange for the only thing the redhead was wearing was a ripped shirt.
Don't worry about that right now, Hiei, you're here to kill him, so do it and get out! Hiei ordered himself. He nodded and then pushed himself away from the corner. He walked slowly to the redhead and withdrew his katana. He stood over the boy and raised his sword above his head and was about to strike when Kurama turned over and let out a gasp. Hiei could tell that this gasp was not a gasp of surprise because the look in the redhead's green eyes was the look of pain.
Confused on how the redhead could be in pain when he, Hiei, had not struck him yet.
“W-who are you?” Kurama demanded.
Hiei shook his head and made himself forget the gasp. He did not reply to Kurama, but instead he raised the katana again, but Kurama jumped up. As soon as he did, Kurama fell back to the ground and moaned in pain.
What happened to him? Hiei thought. No! You are here to do a duty, so forget it and get on with your job! Hiei ordered himself. He walked over to Kurama and pushed him down on the floor.
“Now lay still and this won't hurt,” Hiei said. He, again, raised the katana above his head and was about to bring it down, but he froze as he looked deep inside those green orbs. They were filled with pain and they seemed to beg him to not hurt him.
Hiei sighed and cursed his weakness as he put the sword back into its pouch. He then bent down and picked up the redhead, cradling him like a baby. He then laid him down on the bed and looked him over.
“What happened?” Hiei whispered.
“Nothing. You're here to kill me, I'm weak, so kill me and get it over with,” Kurama ordered. He looked away annoyed and tried to ignore the pain that seemed to spread all over his body.
“You said it yourself, you're weak, and I to hate fight weaklings. I'll come back for you another night when you're stronger,” Hiei explained. This was true, Hiei really did hate fighting weaklings, but many of the targets he has had before were weaklings. Hiei knew that this redhead had some fight in him, but something had happened to him and rendered him helpless. He wanted to at least have a good fight from his target before he retired from his job of assassinating people.
“Now tell me what happened,” Hiei ordered.
“Are you a paid assassin?” Kurama asked. Hiei blinked but nodded. “Then why do you care if anything happened to me? You're paid to give people death. So what if something happened to me,” Kurama said.
Who is this man? First he comes in to kill me, and then he's acting like he cares for me! He's very interesting, but I want to know why he cares so much, Kurama thought. He looked back at the mysterious man and frowned.
“I would like to keep you alive so that when I do return you'll be able to give me a good fight. This is my last mission and―” Hiei cut off. He was starting to have a conversation with this man and he knew he shouldn't.
“How will you know when I get better?” Kurama asked.
Hiei blinked. He had not thought about it, but he knew he had to figure out a way.
Hiei shook his head at the redhead. “Don't worry about it,” he said. “You were raped?” Hiei asked.
“No that's why I'm bleeding and in pain,” Kurama said sarcastically.
Hiei smirked. “I knew you were, I just wanted to make sure. Now tell me, who did this,” Hiei ordered.
Kurama opened his mouth to tell the man to go fuck himself, but he stopped and frowned. Something inside Kurama told him he could trust the mysterious man. Who is he going to tell anyway? Where he works people love to see people die, so who would care? Kurama thought. He sighed and then softly whispered, “Youko.”
Hiei's eyes went wide. Youko? He raped his own lover? But why? Hiei thought. He opened his mouth to say something, but stopped as he sensed someone coming closer. He knew that presents, and the presents belonged to the last person he wanted to see right now, Youko.
“Listen, I have to leave. Get better because I want a good fight,” Hiei ordered. Hiei then stood up and didn't wait for Kurama to speak as he jumped out the window and disappeared into the darkness.
Kurama glared at the window. He wants to toy with me! He wants a good fight and after he's had his fill of a good fight then he's going to kill me! That little bastard! Kurama thought as he swung his legs over the edge of the bed. He bit his lower lip as he stood up and walked over to his dresser. He was still very sore, but he had to get better. Strangely enough Kurama wanted to see the mysterious man again.
Kurama was pulling on some night clothes just as the bedroom door opened. Kurama jumped and sighed with relief as he found the silver haired youkai standing in the doorway, but then he tensed up again and glared at the fox.
Youko's eyes opened wide when he found Kurama standing up dressing. He's alive? Why? HIEI! I'M GOING TO MURDER YOU! Youko thought as he forced a smile.
“Hello love. Feeling better?” Youko asked.
Kurama glared at Youko but did not say anything.
Youko smirked and walked past Kurama and over to the bed. “Wow, look at all this! Tisk, tisk, what will your mother say to all this blood?” Youko asked as he pointed to the bedspread.
Kurama looked down at the bedspread and frowned. “I'll have to get rid of it, along with my shirt,” he said as he threw off his ripped shirt and pulled on a pajama shirt.
“Are you feeling better?” Youko asked as he tore off the bedspread and laid it in the floor.
Kurama growled. “Why should you care?” he asked. He walked, shakily, to the bed but did not climb into the bed with Youko.
“Youko, I want you out,” Kurama whispered. “This is my house and I have given you a home here, but after what you did to me tonight I don't want you in this house anymore. You can stay here tonight, but starting tomorrow I want you out,” Kurama said as he grabbed his pillow.
The fox glared at the redhead. He wants me out? Well I want him dead! “Fine, I'll leave,” Youko said with a smirk. It doesn't matter, he'll soon be killed.
“Good,” Kurama said. He then left the bedroom with a smirking Youko standing at the bed. Kurama walked downstairs and over to the couch. He grabbed a blanket out of one of the hallway closets, snuggled under the covers, and drifted off to sleep.

“Who knows the answer? Shuichi?” asked an aging man as he looked around the room.
Kurama shook his head and looked up at the teacher. “I'm sorry, sir, I didn't hear the question,” Kurama said with a blush.
The teacher sighed and pointed to another student. “The correct answer is seventeen,” the other student said.
“Very good. Now what is the answer to this problem?” the teacher asked as he pointed to another math problem on the board.
Kurama sighed and looked away from the teacher and stared at the window. I'm still sore from last night, but don't worry Mr. Mysterious, I'm getting better. You'll get your fight and then you can kill me, Kurama thought.
It was the last period in school, and Kurama hasn't been doing so well today. His mind would wonder and think about the mysterious character who had attacked him.
But he didn't really attack me, he helped me too, Kurama thought with a soft smile. I wonder how he's going to find out if I'm getting better or not. Maybe... maybe he's watching me right now? Maybe he can see me, but I can't see him! Kurama sat up straighter and looked out the window; his eyes moving slowly over the horizon. Kurama sighed and sank down in his chair, for he did not see any sign of the mysterious man.
“Shuichi? Are you not going home?” the teacher asked suddenly.
Kurama shook his head and looked around the class room. He had not heard it but the bell had rang and most of his classmates were already out of the class-room.
“I'm sorry,” Kurama whispered as he stood up and quickly packed his bag.
Getting lost in his thoughts again, Kurama walked out of the school building and headed home.
Who is he, and who wants me dead? Youko? No, where's Youko going to get the money to pay for an assassin? I hear that costs a lot of money, Kurama thought.
Unknown to the redhead, a black figure was quietly, yet quickly following behind him. The figure stopped in a tree and frowned down at the redhead.
“He looks like he's getting better, but I have to figure out a way to be able to get to know him so that I can know for sure. I don't want to attack him and he's half healed!” Hiei whispered out loud to himself. “But how am I going to do it? How can I get him to meet me and get him to want to talk to me more?” Hiei asked. He jumped a couple more trees so as to catch up to Kurama.
“I've toyed with women before, but never men. I do not mind toying with men, it's just I never wanted to toy with them. All the men I got on my target list were just plain ugly, but this one... this one has a kind of... cuteness to him. He's rather sexy and I actually want to toy with him,” Hiei whispered. “But with the women all I had to do was walk up to them, whisper a couple of things in their ear, take them to bed, and then they want to talk to me. I find out everything about them and then I assassinate them,” Hiei said. “Maybe Koenma will have an idea.” With that, Hiei jumped up and disappeared.
