Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Bridge of Wings ❯ Bridge of Wings ( Chapter 1 )
"Bridge of Wings"
There is a Chinese legend about a bridge of wings.
A lowly cowherd and a heavenly weaving maiden fell in love and were so involved that they began to neglect their duties.
As punishment, they were separated by the Milky Way and could only meet once a year by crossing over the backs of magpies who felt sorry for their plight.
But this story isn't about them.
This is about another set of young lovers, all working under the same roof of the Daioh household.
Kurama, the gardener.
Hiei, the cook.
And Botan, the maid.
( Author's Note: In this story, Kurama, Hiei and Botan are humans. They don't
have any powers. Thank You. ^_^ )
Kurama and Hiei were good friends.
They had some laughs and they like to compete.
They were competing for the love of the same girl.
Botan knew that both Kurama and Hiei like her.
But she didn't know how to react to the attention they were giving her.
Kurama and Hiei both tried to win Botan's affections.
But the pretty maid easily gets overwhelmed.
So, the two of them (Kurama and Hiei) decided to hold a contest.
They would both present a gift to Botan.
The bearer of the gift she picks would be the one to continue to pursue her.
Hiei sweated in the kitchen for days.
While Kurama stayed outside to toil among the plants.
Botan knew of the competition.
But she kept quiet.
She never could seem to voice her true feelings on the matter.
The `end of the contest' period came.
Hiei went first. He prepared a splendid feast fit for a princess.
But Hiei used the master of the house's money and resources for the food.
He essentially stole the ingredients for his own purposes.
It took only the smallest bite… to taste the taint of Hiei's wrongdoing.
Then it was Kurama's turn.
And he presented to her a single rose.
Kurama knew that his gift wasn't much.
Roses we're not native to the area but he tried to nurture them anyway.
Only one blossom survived.
The rose's fragrant perfume was the sweetest scent the maid ever smelled.
It spoke of Kurama's honest blood, sweat and tears. It was filled with promise and more.
Botan made her choice.
They could no longer stay in the Daioh house.
They made plans to leave and travel.
They would meet in their special place.
A Chinese immigrant had built the bridge of wings.
He built it to remember and celebrate the Chinese Valentine in his homeland.
But young lovers know nothing of this.
All they know is that it is a special place where two hearts can meet.
Where dreams can be fulfilled. And where a moment can last lifetime and beyond.
The End
