Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Brotherly Love ❯ Kokoshka's file and Grocery Shopping ( Chapter 4 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

*Authors note: Okay, now in this chapter Kaori calls her brother Kurama. She already knows about his demon past. I'm not going to go into how she found out or anything, just know that she already knows who he is.

"Kurama I have the information you requested for that Kokoshka guy." Said Botan. It was Saturday, the day after Kurama had met Kokoshka and had the dream. As soon as he had gotten home he called Botan and asked if she knew anything about a demon named Kokoshka fitting his description. When Botan asked why he wanted the info he told her of his encounter with him. Botan promised to have the information the next day and Kurama was very pleased that she had kept her word.

"Thank you, Botan." He said, ushering her inside. "Would you like anything?"

" No thanks" She replied, taking a seat on the couch. Shiori and Kaori had gone to the grocery store half an hour ago, leaving Kurama with the house to himself for few hours.

"It didn't take long to find Kokoshka's file." Botan went, getting straight to the point. "What did it say?"

"Not much on his personals I'm afraid but I hit the jackpot on his criminal files. For the past ten years Spirit World has been receiving word of a man torturing and killing different people, human and demon, just to see how those around them will react. It's like a hobby of his or something, causing people emotional pain."

"How does he go about it?" Kurama asked. "It's different each time. Sometimes he stalks his victims before attacking, or sometimes he just acts suddenly. He usually kidnaps his victims but sometimes he'll attack out in the open. Sometimes he'll even torture his victim to death right in front of the person he's trying to cause emotional pain to, just so he can watch their reactions. And while none have ever survived before, some have been found alive, only to die soon after."

None of this information went very well with Kurama. Nor did the rest that Botan told him. He had no known weaknesses and Spirit World didn't even know what race of demon he was. He had no set pattern, which meant Kurama had no way of knowing when or where he would strike.

He suddenly had the urge to run down to the store and find Kaori to make sure Kokoshka wouldn't attack her when Kurama wasn't there to protect her.

And he did just that.

He thanked Botan for the info and said if she found anything else to please contact him. Then he raced down the street as fast as he could to the store searching through the long aisles for some sign of Kaori and his mother. He quickly found Shiori in aisle two.

"Mother!" He called out with relief.

"Shuichi!" She exclaimed in surprise. "What are you doing here? I thought you had a friend coming over."

"She did. But she couldn't stay very long. Where is Kaori?"

" The candy aisle," She replied, pointing" I told her to get something for the both of you."

"All right. I'll be back in a few minutes." He said heading toward the candy aisle.

Kurama saw her looking at the chocolate wafers and, planning to sneak up and surprise her, began to silently creep down the aisle.

That's when he saw him. Kokoshka. He was standing there in between Kurama and Kaori, smiling mischievously at Kurama.

He was instantly chilled. He didn't want Kaori to know she was in danger.

"Amazing isn't it?" He asked. "The way human children can be so easily satisfied with something as simple as candy? And chocolate is always their favorite."

"I know who you are Kokoshka. I know what you do for fun and if you ever come near my sister again, I will not hesitate to kill you." Kurama was giving him one of his coldest looks, a look that had often been used by Yoko to intimidate.

Kokoshka just smiled. "Yes, I know you know. I heard everything the ferry girl told you about me."

"You've been spying on me?" Kurama demanded.

"For about two weeks now."

Hearing her brothers' voice, Kaori turned and smiled. She began to run toward Kurama, unaware of the surrounding danger.

"Hey Kurama, do you want the Reese's or the…"

She never finished her sentence. For as she ran past Kokoshka he turned, snatched her up and held her high, facing toward Kurama with Kaori held in front of him.

If Kurama's heart had just been pumping a mile a minute from suppressed anger before, it had now stopped from pure terror. Kokoshka was holding his sister in between them as a shield, preventing Kurama from attacking him. Kaori was facing Kokoshka.

"Put her down!" He all but yelled. In the back of his mind he was still faintly aware that he was in a public place that now included his mother. It was amazing that no one had noticed the scene yet.

Kokoshka looked at him from behind the startled child and smirked. "Or?" Then he turned that disgusting smile to his sister.

"Hi Kaori. You remember me right? Kurama's friend?"

Suddenly Kaori's face of surprised confusion spread into a smile of recognition.

"Yeah I remember you from the playground yesterday!" She exclaimed happily. "What are you doing here?"

"Oh I was just having…" he looked back over at Kurama, a queer look in his eyes, " a friendly little chat with your brother. But I'm done now so why don't you go see him? I'll see you later."

He put the unsuspecting child back down and she ran cheerfully to her brother.

"Kaori!" He exclaimed in relief and swept her up in his arms, scowling spitefully at the man across from him. Kokoshka only chuckled, "I'll talk to you again later Kurama. Good day."
