Mistress: The inspiration for this story came while I was doing my history project during class.

 

Wait for me by Moonlight

 

He looked at himself in the mirror. His flowing red hair that often caused people to mistake him for a girl and his creamy skin didn't help the matter. He stared into his green eyes trying to find something there…something that was missing.

 

His soul maybe? What did he stand for?

 

He stopped staring at himself and glanced at the books lying in his table. He should do his homework…his mother would disapprove. Sighing he sat down and opened his books.

 

Why did he have to be perfect? Why did he always strive to do his best at school? He didn't want to…he wanted to be free…he wanted to leave. So Why?

 

His mother…but now that his mother had her husband and new son why did he stay? She would not miss him…

 

Flashback

 

A rather short boy with spiky black hair stood his back facing the red head.

 

“So…you're not coming with me?” he asked staring out into the horizon.

 

“I can't Hiei….I'm sorry but I need to stay here, I'm human now,” the red head said with sorrow.

 

“I guess I knew this was coming…you are a domesticated fox Kurama, although I didn't think the legendary Yoko could ever be tamed or contained,” he said turning around his crimson orbs shining.

 

“I am Yoko no more…just Kurama…” the boy said forlornly.

 

Hiei mumbled something that was swept away in the wind and then disappeared. That was the last time Kurama saw his lover.

 

End Flashback

 

Times like these what Hiei said that day were more than true…he was a domesticated fox…tamed….he shouldn't even think of himself as a fox. It would be so easy to leave everything behind…shed the mortal body and become a spirit once more but what was holding him back?

 

Again the red head sighed. It was nearing midnight now and the moon was at full. Kurama leaned back in his chair the feet groaning and let the stray moonlight leak onto him. He closed his eyes and relaxed fully. He needed this…he needed to be himself.

 

He stood up letting the chair gently down as to not wake his slumbering family. Kurama pried open his window and with practiced grace jumped out onto the soft well kept grass. Taking in a deep breath he basked in the moonlight. He was so relaxed he hadn't noticed a figure creep up behind him. The two arms circled around Kurama's waist. He snapped out of his thoughts and looked at who had caught him.

 

Hiei…

 

Hiei…his Hiei was standing there, arms wrapped around him.

 

“Hiei….” Kurama said in wonder.

 

It had been two years and he had not expected to ever see his fire angel ever again. Hiei's head nodded against his back.

 

“I knew you couldn't tame a Yoko,” Hiei whispered finally looking up.

 

Green met red and sparks flew. In both orbs love, loneliness, and despair. For months Kurama had hallucinated that Hiei would come back to him…was this real?

 

“Yes it is, I'm here,” Hiei said leaning up and capturing Kurma's lips in a kiss.

 

Crystals began to leak out of the green eyes, “You're really here….oh by the God's I've missed you.”

 

Hiei grinned and hugged Kurama tighter, proving that he was there….he was real. In the house the lights started turning on. The magick of the moment was ruined and Kurama's head snapped up in alarm. Hiei smiled knowingly and let go.

 

“Wait for me by moonlight,” was all that Hiei said as he disappeared into the wind again.

 

Just as Hiei had disappeared Shiori came to the window and looked down to see her son standing in the moonlight staring into the distance with a soft smile.

 

“Suiichi, what are you doing down there?” she asked.

 

Kurama looked up a twinkle in his eye, “Nothing mother, I'm sorry for worrying you I just thought I saw something…”

 

As the scarlet haired boy got into bed he walked to his window once more and blew a kiss into the night.

 

“I'll wait for you by moonlight,” he said softly as he went back into bed.

 

Somewhere in the distance those words brought a sincere soft smile to someone's face.
