Disclaimer: I do not own Yu Yu Hakusho.

This is my first fic. This is really just practice for me so I can hopefully get better at writing ^_^ This doesn't have a plot... I'm just making it up as I go along... My apologies for it's badness.

Chapter 1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sun had just started to retreat behind the mountains and it was freezing outside. Hiei’s hands and face had gone numb a long time ago. There was a foot of snow on the ground and more was being added each second. The snow hadn’t stopped falling since it started hours ago. Hiei had his knees up to his chest and he was hugging himself trying to keep warm. He was half Koorime... but he was also half fire demon; he could only take so much of the cold.
“Damn ningen weather” Hiei said softly to himself watching his breath as he said it. Makai was never this cold, at least not where Hiei lived.
A few more hours of this and he would die... He didn’t really care if he did or not though. He didn’t have mush to live for... except to look after Yukina.
The tree Hiei usually stayed in was close to Genkai’s temple so he could watch over his sister. Yukina wasn’t at Genkai’s temple today though. She was with Kuwabara. Hiei frowned at the thought of his sister and the fool being together. They were now officially boyfriend and girlfriend. Why did Yukina have to be in love with him out of all the ningens running around this place?
The little body heat Hiei was giving off was melting the snow that fell on him, and he was starting to get wet. He could handle being cold but being wet and cold was a whole different story. Especially if the wind was blowing, and it was. Hiei started to shiver. He had to find some shelter, but where could he go? Genkai’s temple was within his sight but Genkai was there and he didn’t know Genkai very well... She probably didn’t even remember him. They never talked... Hiei never really talked to anyone. Except Kurama...
‘I guess I could stay at Kurama’s...’ Hiei thought.
But what was he going to say? “Oh hey Kurama. How’s it going? Could I stay here? I’m really cold.”
Yeah, like he’d say that...
‘Ah screw it’ Hiei thought. He didn’t care if Kurama thought he was weak. He was cold dammit!
Hiei got up and flitted away to Kurama’s house. Something was wrong though. Kurama’s house had lights on the roof... Almost all the houses on Kurama’s street had lights on them! Kurama also had a deer and a fat man in a sleigh on his lawn. What was going on?!
Hiei jumped up to a tree right outside Kurama’s window. He saw the fox in there at his desk writing something. Hiei hesitated, then tapped on the window.
Kurama looked up from what he was writing and looked out his window. He didn’t see anything because it was dark and he couldn’t sense any ki, but he knew something was there. He cautiously stood up and went to his window. He was more than surprised to see Hiei standing there. Kurama opened the window and instantly figured out why Hiei was there. It was freezing outside! “Oh my gosh Hiei it’s freezing outside! Get in here!” Hiei obeyed and jumped inside Kurama’s room. Kurama went over to his dresser and pulled out a pair of black sweat pants and a black tee shirt and held it out to Hiei. Hiei looked at Kurama confused.
“You want to sleep here right?” Kurama asked. “Well your not sleeping in wet clothes. Change.”
Hiei took the clothes and waited till Kurama turned around and changed.
Kurama went over to his desk and resumed what he was doing. It was way too early to sleep. The sun had just set; it was only 6:00.
Hiei went over and sat on the windowsill. He was still cold but not as cold as he was. Kurama’s room was very warm.
Hiei looked out the window and saw the lights on the houses again. He’d almost forgot about them.
“Kurama?”
“Hmm?” Kurama looked up at Hiei.
“Why does your house have lights on it?”
Kurama chuckled, “Because it’s Christmas.”
Hiei just looked at him confused.
“It’s a human holiday where families get together and give each other presents. It’s a tradition to put lights on your house.”
Hiei looked out the window again.
Kurama went back to doing his homework. He had to write a journal entry about what Christmas means to him. He had no idea what to write. All Christmas meant was getting together with family and opening up presents... that was all. How was he supposed to turn that into a 400+ word journal? All he had written down so far was his name and the title of the paper... 'I'll just do this later,' he thought. 'I do have a whole 2 weeks to do it.'
Kurama got up and stretched. He had been sitting there for quite a long time doing other homework. He glanced at Hiei who was staring out the window.
“Are you hungry Hiei?” Kurama asked.
“No.”
Kurama had expected that answer. He wasn’t going to give up without a fight though. Hiei looked like he hadn’t eaten anything in a week.
“Fine, I guess all that ice cream will just go to waste then...” He said as he walked out of his room.
Kurama went to the kitchen and started getting stuff out for a sandwich. [Sorry, I don’t know what Japanese people eat... so he’s having American food! Wait... is the sandwich a Japanese food?? I’m confused :(] As Kurama expected Hiei started walking down the stairs into the kitchen. Hiei was looking around Kurama’s house as he walked. He had never been outside of Kurama’s room before.
“Your mother isn’t here?” Hiei asked noticing her absence.
“No, she and my step-father and step-brother went to the United States for Christmas. They won’t be back for another two weeks”.
Hiei sat down at Kurama’s table. “I changed my mind, I’m hungry now”.
“Ok, what would you like?” Kurama asked smiling, already knowing the answer.
“Sweet snow”.
“Oh, sorry Hiei but you can’t have that unless you eat some real food first.”
Hiei looked at Kurama with a ‘You Can’t Do That’ look. “Fine.”
Kurama smiled. He didn’t think Hiei would be this cooperative. He placed a ham sandwich in front of Hiei.
Hiei looked at it like it just sprouted wings and was dancing on the table.
“What the hell is this?”
“A sandwich. It’s bread with ham, lettuce, mayonnaise, and cheese in it. It’s really good,” Kurama said and took a bite off his own sandwich.
“It sounds disgusting,” Hiei said while he poked at it.
“Well your not getting any ice cream unless you eat it”
“Hn.”
Hiei sniffed the sandwich then took a bite out of it. It wasn’t as bad as he expected it to be. Actually, it was pretty good.
The phone rang and Kurama went to answer it.
“Moshi moshi” Kurama said talking into the phone.
“Oh, hello Yusuke”
“No... why?”
Hiei finished his sandwich and went to the freezer to get some sweet snow.
“Of course. I’d love to.”
“No Hiei! Use a spoon!”
“Yeah, he’s here...”
“Ok, I’ll try.”
“Alright, bye”
Kurama hung up the phone and glared at Hiei who still wasn’t using a spoon while he ate the ice cream straight from the container.
Kurama sighed and took the container away from Hiei.
Hiei glared at Kurama.
“Yusuke is having a Christmas/birthday party for Kuwabara tomorrow and you’re going”
“No, I’m not.” Hiei said still glaring at him.
“Then I guess you can’t have anymore ice cream...”
“But... I... You can’t do that!” Hiei protested.
Hiei watched in horror as Kurama walked over to the trash can.
Kurama was about to throw the container away when Hiei said, “Fine! I’ll go. Just give me back the sweet snow!”
Kurama gave Hiei the sweet snow and smiled. Hiei was acting like such a child.
