…………………
One day, superstar Clay Aiken slipped away from his security while touring in Tokyo, Japan. He was sick and tired of those guys always being in front, next to, and behind him. He wanted a little freedom for once. Besides, what did he really need them for, anyway? If a mob of crazy fans attacked him, he could just sing. For some reason, his voice put most of his fans into a love trance.
Anyway, Clay was walking down a sidewalk in Tokyo, enjoying the fresh air and freedom, when out of the sky something dropped toward him. The thing landed in front of our favorite singer, who jumped back in surprise. The thing had long, black hair, pale skin, a mask over his mouth, and was dressed in a black robe.
"Who...what...are you?" Clay asked, with a note of panic in his voice.
"I am a Claymate! My name is Karasu! I am so happy to finally meet you! You are my role model! Thank you for being you!" the thing called Karasu responded, clearly overjoyed at meeting his "role model."
Then, to Clay's horror, Karasu got down on his hands and knees and kissed the ground that Clay walked on. Then, he proceeded to kiss Clay's feet. "My Lord and Master!" Karasu chanted as he, still on his knees, put his hands over his head and bowed up and down at Clay's feet.
Clay, horrified, began to run from this wacko named Karasu. Karasu, not about to let something he liked get away from him, grabbed Clay's wrist and jumped into the air. Then, they were gone.
"AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" Clay screamed.
"Please don't scream like that! You'll ruin your beautiful voice!" Karasu exclaimed.
Clay continued to scream. To get him to stop, Karasu ripped off a piece of his long black robe and stuffed it in poor Clay's mouth.
"MMMMRRRRPPPHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Clay continued to scream as they flew through the air.
Finally, they landed. Clay, who, to Karasu's delight, had finally stopped screaming, looked around, his eyes wide. They were in a very strange place.
Karasu, after making Clay swear not to scream, removed the gag. "Where are we?" Clay asked.
"We're at my home in Spirit World," Karasu said proudly. "Now, sing for me!"
"What?!?" exclaimed Clay. "You heard me! Sing for me or die!" Karasu ordered, his eyes turning red.
I think I like the groveling maniac better, Clay thought. Left with no other options, Clay began to sing:
Oooh ooh oooh ooooh
What ya doin' tonight
I wish I could be
A fly on your wall
Are you really alone?
Who's stealin your dreams?
Why can't I breathe
You into my li-i-i-ife
What would it take
to make you
see that
I'm ali-ive
As he sang, Clay noticed that Karasu had slipped into a trance. As he sang the chorus, he slowly backed away.
If I was invisible
Then I could just
Watch you in your room
If I was invincible
I'd make you mine tonight
If hearts were unbreakable
Then I could just
Tell you where I stand
I would be the smartest man
If I was invisible
Wait! I already am...
At this point, Clay was running at top speed away from the enchanted Claymate. He looked over his shoulder to see if Karasu was following him and ran right into something. He turned and looked up, but saw no one. Then, he heard a "Hn."
He looked down and saw a short male teenager with all black hair, except for a white starburst in the center, a white scarf, a black robe, red eyes, and a white bandanna covering his forehead.
"Watch it human!" the teenager said nastily. Then, he looked at Clay and said, "Are you the human I'm supposed to rescue from Karasu?"
"I guess so. Who are you?" Clay asked.
"That's not important. Besides, it's none of your business. Just know that if I hadn't found you, you'd be dead within the hour." Clay gulped. "Wait. You seem familiar. Do I know you?" the teenager we all know is Hiei asked.
"Ummm, I don't think so," answered Clay.
"Your voice is so...Wait. Your voice. Sing something."
"What?!?"
"You heard me! Just do it!"
Then Clay spotted the katana Hiei started to grip. So, he began to sing:
Yeah, I know it hurts
Yeah, I know you're scared
Walkin down the road...
He never finished the line. He was interrupted by Hiei, who said, "I knew it! You're that human singer, the one that sings all those revolting love songs. I hate people like you. You're Ay Claiken! My sister Yukina will never stop listening to you're songs. She never pays any attention to me. You must pay."
Clay couldn't stop himself from saying, "Umm, actually, I'm Clay Aiken..."
"HOW DARE YOU CORRECT ME!!!! YOU SHALL PAY WITH YOUR LIFE!!!!" Hiei threw off his cloak. His hair blew in all different directions. His bandanna dissolved, revealing a third eye.
"AAAHHHHH!!!!" screamed Clay. He froze in terror and watched as the eye turned red. Hiei's skin turned green. His ears pointed and his hair parted down the center. The last straw for Clay was when eyes opened all over Hiei's body.
Clay gasped, then screamed, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
He ran for his life, screaming the whole way. Hiei unsheathed his katana and in less time it takes to blink was in front of Clay.
Clay continued to scream and started to run the other way.
Then, he saw Karasu running toward him. OH, NO!!!!! Clay thought. He ran to the left, but Hiei headed him off. Then, his way clear, Clay turned and ran in his original direction. Lucky for Clay, Hiei decided that it would be more interesting and amusing to give chase for a while. So, he pursued Clay at less than half his normal speed, with Karasu not too far behind.
Clay ran. And ran. He glanced over his shoulder and saw that both the abnormal teenager and the Clay-maniac were running after him.
The Claymate yelled, "Clay, get back here! You're going to get too tired to give me any more private concerts! Then I'll have to kill you!"
The green eyeball guy muttered, "I'll have that ugly human's head! No one can steal Yukina from me!"
Clay looked again and saw that the lunatics were keeping their distance and wondered why. He was just about to turn his head the right way when he bashed into someone else. "Hey, watch where you're goin' alright?" said the guy in a green outfit with black, greased-back hair and an obnoxious voice.
Then he looked at Clay. "You're a human! Are you the one I was sent to rescue?"
"Ummmm, I have no clue," said the nervous Clay. "I could use some rescuing, though. I have two guys behind me. One wants to kill me and the other one wants me to sing for him for all eternity or else he'll kill me too."
"Wait a minute. You look and sound familiar. Did you say this one guy wants you to sing for him?" the guy who is obviously Yusuke asked Clay.
"Yeah."
"Weird. Well, you must be pretty good, so let me hear a song."
"Yeah, sure, why not," sighed Clay. He started yet another song in a now raspy voice:
There's somthin' bout the way
You look tonight
There's somthin' bout the way that
I can't take my eyes off you
There's somthin' bout...
"I know you now!" exclaimed Yusuke. "You're Tray Baiken! My girlfriend Keiko and my partner Botan won't stop talking about you and listening to your CDs! Your posters cover their walls! They don't have time for me anymore! I hate you!!!!"
Clay slipped again. "Actually, my name is Clay Aiken..."
Yusuke grabbed the front of Clay's shirt and pulled him into the air. As the terrified Clay dangled above him, Yusuke screamed, "HEY, I DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR NAME IS!!! I DON'T LIKE YOU!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT I DO TO PEOPLE I DON'T LIKE?!?!"
Yusuke was just about to punch the singer's lights out when he heard Hiei say, "Don't touch him. He's mine to torture."
Karasu added, "If you hurt him, he won't be able to sing for me until the end of time! Then I'll have to kill both him and you!"
Yusuke dropped Clay and faced them angrily. Clay saw his chance and, as the three of them fought over who he belonged to, made his escape.
Clay ran. And ran. He no longer had a voice to scream with, so he just ran. He turned his head yet again to see what was going on behind him. The three loons had abandoned their argument and were all now chasing him.
This has got to be a bad dream, Clay thought. He was just about to turn his head and pinch himself when he ran into another person. This guy had carrot-colored hair, a blue uniform, and a very gravely voice. "Sorry!" Clay apologized in a hoarse whisper before the other person had a chance to speak.
"No problem, just watch where you're goin' next time, okay," replied Kuwabara. Then, obviously forgetting why he was sent there, he said, "Hey, I know you! You're uhh, uuuhhhhh, oh man, I can't remember your name! Where's my list of names? Oh, here it is. Ummm, let's see, Fay, Play, Tray, Hay...That's it! You're Hay Faiken!!!! My sister Shizuru and my girlfriend Yukina are crazy about you, even though my tough sister won't admit it. They don't love me anymore!!!!" With that, he burst into tears.
Clay was dumbfounded. Deciding this ugly creature seemed harmless enough, Clay said softly, "I think you got my name wrong. I'm Clay Aiken. I'm sorry that..."
Kuwabara abruptly stopped his sobbing and said angrily, "No little wimp like you is gonna stand up to me like that! I'm gonna pound your face into the ground!!!"
Very lucky for Clay, Kuwabara was slow. Clay easily dodged his punch and ran.
Clay ran. And ran. He was exhausted. Maybe he should just surrender. After all, he had no idea where he was or how he was going to defend himself if the insane people who wanted to have him sing, kill him, and pound his face in did catch up to him.
Used to it by now, he turned his head. Hiei, still in his demon form, was in the lead, followed closely by Yusuke, who was yelling threats. Karasu came next, still screaming at Clay to stop, and Kuwabara, who had gotten a head start, was lagging far behind, panting.
At this point, Clay turned his head, but not in time to keep from bumping into someone else. This person had brilliant red hair, emerald-green eyes, and a bright pink uniform on.
Do I have to say it was Kurama, or are we all just a little non-observant? Of course it was Kurama!
Anyway, Clay decided to take one last chance being friendly. He was just about to apologize when Kurama said, "You're Clay Aiken, aren't you?"
Clay began, "Actually, I'm..." then he stopped. "You know my name?" he questioned.
Kurama smiled and nodded. "Actually, I'm a big fan. I have all three of your CDs. I think your voice in wonderful. By the way, my name is Kurama." Then, with concern in his voice, he said, "You sound terrible! What happened to you?"
Clay told him about the Claymate named Karasu, the green eyeball-covered teenager, the obnoxious guy, and the ugly creature. Then Clay told him all the events of the day. "And now," he concluded, "They're all after me. They'll be here any second."
Kurama knew who Clay was talking about and was greatly disturbed by his friends' and Karasu's actions. He decided to help his favorite singer.
Sure enough, about thirty seconds later, Hiei reached them. Three seconds after that, Yusuke showed up. Five seconds after that, Karasu joined them, and fifteen seconds after that, Kuwabara stumbled over.
"Kurama, good, you've caught him," said Hiei.
"Hand him over so he can sing for me FOREVER, or else I'll kill all of you!!!!" added Karasu.
"No, hand him over so that I can torture him and he can DIE!!!" argued Hiei.
"I just wanna get in a good Spirit Gun," said Yusuke as Hiei waved his katana close to Karasu's neck.
"And I...just wanna...throw in...a punch...or...two," panted Kuwabara as Karasu's eyes began to glow red and a few strands of his hair turned gold as he glared at Hiei.
"I will hand him over to no one," Kurama stated calmly. "He just wants to go home, and I will take him there."
Hiei lost his patience. "THEN YOU WILL BOTH DIE!!!" he shouted, blinded by rage, and lunged at the terrified Clay with his katana.
Suddenly, there was a blinding pink light. "ROSE WHIP!" A whip of thorns snaked around Hiei's katana. With Kurama pulling the whip back and Hiei thrusting his weapon forward, the katana cracked and broke. The sudden release of tension sent Hiei flying. "Run," Kurama told Clay. "I'll take care of them."
Clay obeyed.
Clay ran. And ran. He was very frightened. He quickly went over all the strange things he had seen that day in his mind:
1. A person named Karasu with black hair that turned gold when he got angry, eyes that turned red, and a mask over his mouth, who considered himself a Claymate.
2. This place called Spirit World.
3. A really fast teenager with an eye in the middle if his forehead, jet-black hair, except for a white starburst and a bluish glow, that stood straight up, and a very long and sharp sword, who could turn green, make his ears point, and have eyes open all over his body.
4. A sobbing tough guy.
5. A guy named Kurama with natural red hair who wore pink and could turn a rose into a whip.
Little did he know the strange things to come.
At this point, he heard someone yell, "SPIRIT GUN!!!!!" Clay wondered what a spirit gun was, but refrained from turning to look.
Kurama, out of the corner of his eye, saw Yusuke outstretch his right arm, index finger pointed out and thumb pointed up with his other three fingers bent into a fist. He felt the Spirit Detective's energy rise near to its maximum. He heard Yusuke scream those all-too-familiar words, "SPIRIT GUN!!!!!" He shook his Rose Whip free of the shards of Hiei's katana and flung the end around Yusuke's wrist. "I'm sorry, my friend." He pulled back just as Yusuke's energy poured out of his finger.
The shot missed its target.
All Clay saw was green light. Then, he felt something hot very close to him. He tried to run faster, but it was impossible. Then, a huge ball of green light flew past him. The force sent him toppling head over heal. When he stopped rolling, he painfully got to his feet and continued to run.
Yusuke screamed in agony and rage. The thorns had ripped right through his skin. He glared at Kurama for a second, then lunged. Kurama dodged, knocked into the still out-of-breath Kuwabara, who went down, smacked his whip into Karasu's face, who just stood there in utter shock, jumped onto Hiei's back, knocking the wind out of him, and ran after Clay. He knew his angry friends and Karasu would not stay defeated for long.
Kurama quickly caught up to Clay. "How are you doing?" he asked. The exhausted singer simply looked at him, and Kurama knew that it was beyond words. Besides, he couldn't have spoken even if he had wanted to. Clay had completely lost his voice.
Kurama was very worried about Clay. He looked like he was going to pass out any second. Kurama looked behind them and saw something closing in fast. He knew it could only be one person.
Hiei.
"Now we're in trouble," Kurama stated, not meaning to say it out loud. But it was too late. Clay had heard him.
Clay was so tired. Every part of his body ached. His head pounded. Now he had to come to terms with the fact that there was no getting out of the situation. Because of what Kurama had said, he knew that his savior was not all-powerful. He knew that once Hiei caught up to them, they didn't stand a chance.
All at once, they were cornered. They had come up to a dead end, with nothing but high rocky cliffs on three sides. Hiei quickly closed them in. "Kurama, I'm surprised! I never thought you'd abandon and attack your friends all for the sake of an ugly human who takes young girls away from their brothers! Though, I suppose it should be expected from "demon traitor"s like yourself," Hiei said nastily, quoting Kurama's old adversary Gama. "It's really a pity...I was beginning to become used to your companionship. Such a waste..."
Hiei trailed off as he began to change. The eyes closed, except for the one on his forehead. His ears became normal. His skin turned from green to peach.
And a black spiral appeared on his right arm.
"Stay back," Kurama warned Clay. But Clay stood transfixed to the spot. He felt it get hotter and hotter. He saw the purplish-black flames encase Hiei's right arm.
"I'm quite sorry about this, Kurama, but you know it is something I must do."
Hiei's Jagan glowed. He smiled his evil smile and laughed his evil laugh. "Say goodbye, human filth! DRAGON OF THE DARKNESS FLAME!!!!"
Kurama began to change. His hair grew longer and magically turned from brilliant red to shining silver. A pair of fox ears sprouted from his head. His eyes changed from a warm emerald green to a cold golden hue. He grew a long, gleaming silver tail. The legendary bandit Yoko Kurama had been awakened.
Clay watched in horror, first as his new-found friend changed before his eyes, then as a huge flaming dragon appeared before him. Then it was as if everything happened in slow motion. The dragon inched closer and closer, making its way in for the kill. The fox demon jumped in the way. Then, everything went black.
Clay slowly opened his eyes. Where am I? What happened? Then everything came back to him. He bolted upright, not fully aware of his aching body. Looking around, he noticed that he was in his hotel room. Nowhere in sight were the evil creatures that had been chasing him. Was it all just a dream?
Then he spotted something shining on his windowsill. He gave it a closer look and saw that is was a strange creature, half human and half fox, with golden eyes and silver hair. After a minute, he realized that it was Kurama.
Standing next to him was a short, black-haired teenager with red eyes, a ripped blue shirt, and a bandaged right arm. Hiei. Clay almost panicked, but something in the fire demon's eyes told him not to be afraid.
Hiei broke the glare by rolling his eyes. He glanced at Kurama, said "Hn," gave one last look at the singer, and was gone in a streak of black and blue.
Kurama turned to leave. He looked over his shoulder and smiled a sweet, innocent, knowing smile. Then, he was gone.
A few weeks later, Clay was packing his suitcases, ready to leave Tokyo. His performances had had to be postponed because of his mysterious loss of voice. Now, though, he was back to normal. Suddenly, he heard a knock on his door. I wonder who that could be. He walked to the door and opened it.
There, in the doorway, stood a tall young man with flaming red hair and emerald green eyes dressed in a pink uniform. Kurama.
Clay was startled. Until then, he had assumed that it was a dream, an illusion. But here was living proof of his adventure.
Kurama grinned. "I see you're surprised to see me."
Clay nodded. Then, remembering his manners, he asked Kurama to please come in. They talked for a while, Kurama explaining all about Spirit World and what had happened after Clay had passed out.
It turns out that at the last moment, Karasu had come out of nowhere and jumped in front of the dragon. He screamed, "NO ONE CAN HAVE CLAY BUT ME!!!" and was then obliterated by the dragon. Oh, well. He had taken most of the attack. All Yoko Kurama had to do was grab Clay and jump out of the dragon's path. The dragon slammed into the rocky cliff and the attack expired.
Then, the fox was able to calm everyone down, mostly because they were all exhausted, especially Hiei, whose right arm was exploding with pain. Together, they had taken Clay home.
Then, Kurama said, "Actually, I came here to ask you a personal favor..."
Keiko, Yukina, Shizuru, Botan, Hiei, Yusuke, and Kuwabara were all gathered in Yusuke's room. The girls were all giggling, talking about Clay, and complaining that they couldn't get tickets to one of Clay's concerts. The boys were just sitting off to the side with pained expressions on their faces.
Then, someone knocked on the door. Botan opened it. "Oh, hello Kurama!" she exclaimed. "What brings you here?"
"Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, and I have a surprise for you all," Kurama replied.
That got all the girls' attention. "What is it?" they all asked anxiously.
At that point, Clay walked in. Need I say more?
Keiko fainted. Botan squealed with delight. Shizuru clasped a hand over her mouth. Yukina gasped. All of them, except Keiko, who was on the floor, started jumping up and down.
After Keiko was revived and the girls were quieted down, Clay said, "Obviously you all know me, so why don't you introduce yourselves?"
The girls happily obliged. Then, Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Hiei grudgingly said their names. Clay eyed them warily, but Kurama winked at him. "We made a deal," Clay remembered Kurama tell him on the way there.
With the girls distracted by asking Clay questions, Kurama went over to the guys and slipped them each a pair of earplugs. They happily stuck them in their ears. "Now for the real treat!" said Kurama.
Clay answered the last question and the girls shushed. Then, Clay began to sing his newest song:
There was a man
A lonely man
Who lost his love
Through his indifference
A heart that cared
That went unshared
Until it died
In his silence
And solitaire's the only game in town
And every road that takes him takes him down
And by himself it's easy to pretend
He'll never love again
The girls all got dreamy looks in their eyes. Kurama also looked very pleased. Clay smiled and sang the rest of the chorus:
And keeping to himself he plays the game
Without her love it always ends the same
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing solitaire
Clay continued until the song ended. Everyone clapped, even Hiei, Yusuke, and Kuwabara, who had to pretend that they were listening.
Then, to the delight of the audience, Clay again began to sing...
~End~
