Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Demon Dance ❯ Mental Oblivion ( Chapter 8 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

((OOC: Author here. I combined a song fic with the next chapter so you have a good idea of what is going on with Skyre and what not. The song is Lies by Evanescence off of their album Origins I think. I'm not entirely sure though about the album. Still a great song. Oh well. Enjoy chapter 8.))

[Bound at every limb by my shackles of fear
Sealed with lies through so many tears
Lost from within, pursuing the end
I fight for the chance to be lied to again]

The wolf run unhindered by thought or emotion. She only knew her orders. But deep inside, Skyre screamed against the walls that kept her from control. She was bound with chains made of the drugs, pain, and fear. Tears streamed down her face. She only wanted to get out.

[You will never be strong enough
You will never be good enough
You were never conceived in love
You will not rise above]

"I can't get out. There's no use. I'll be stuck here forever and have to watch them die," she lamented, those tears unending as the sobbed within her own soul.

[They'll never see
I'll never be
I'll struggle on and on to feed this hunger
Burning deep inside of me]

The wolf enjoyed this. She longed to feed that hunger for pain and blood, to taste it again. That need burned inside of her, making her almost feral with the want of it all.

[But through my tears breaks a blinding light
Birthing a dawn to this endless night
Arms outstretched, awaiting me
An open embrace upon a bleeding tree]

A light broke her sorrow for an instant. It was the light of eternity. That light that would let her rest forever. It would let her die, leaving only an empty shell of a person that would blindly obey every command given to it. It was so tempting to just give in. Skyre tried to rise to go toward that light. Her father was there, his arms open to welcome her. But the scene behind him . . . a forest yes, but the trees bled and sent forth wailing of their own.

[Rest in me and I'll comfort you
I have lived and I died for you
Abide in me and I vow to you
I will never forsake you]

Her father continued to repeat those words to her, coaxing her to come to him. To give in to the pain and despair and just give up.

[They'll never see
I'll never be
I'll struggle on and on to feed this hunger
Burning deep inside of me]

The wolf began to falter in its steps, the other presence inside of it weakening. It smiled and ran ever fast to catch it's quarry.

[They'll never see
I'll never be
I'll struggle on and on to feed this hunger
Burning deep inside of me]

Skyre turned for a moment, looking out of her own eyes in a disconnected way. She saw her body round a corner and place Ifurita and the others in sight. She could see their fear, but they had fought it for a chance to escape. She could see the ice youkai say her name, worry written in her features. Skyre wanted to yell at them to run, but she couldn't. She could only collapsed as a fresh wave of hopelessness washed over her. She couldn't save herself. She couldn't save them. She couldn't save ANYONE!

[Rest in me and I'll comfort you
I have lived and I died for you
Abide in me and I vow to you
I will never forsake you]

"Come now my child. I will help you. Come with me and all will be well," her father cooed. She looked at him looming over her.

[They'll never see
I'll never be
I'll struggle on and on to feed this hunger
Burning deep inside of me]

"CAMBER!" Chains shattered and something stirred within, making her youkai body thud into the wall.

A thud resonated along the halls. Ifurita looked up to see Skyre stumbling down the hallway, head hanging and scimitars in her hands. But something was wrong. Something was out of place. The wolf youkai paused in her travels, head still hanging as though in shame. Her blank face erupted into unmistakable glee with a recognizable grin. Her head rose to stare at them along the length of the passage. Blood red eyes from edge to edge held that same note of glee that her smile did.

"Shit. Run!" she commanded, summoning a wall of ice to block their pursuer. It flowed from the ground, becoming solid just it time. A growl of rage was muffled from the think ice as the three demons ran for their lives. They had only advanced a few strides when the wall shattered behind them to lay open a path for the wolf to follow. "MOVE!" Ifurita slid to a halt, hands in front of her. She concentrated for a moment. A moment that she didn't have. "HAIL STORM!" Ice daggers formed all around her and flew point blank. The demon saw what was happened and launched into a blur of movement. When the spell was done, the ice youkai ran on, unable to believe what her eyes had shown her. Those blades that had moved faster then the eyes could follow, blocking all the daggers that had come within range. Even having been targeted dead on, she somehow had stopped them and lived to continue the chase.

"We can't stop her. Now like this. We need help," Kurama panted as they ran. "Let's get out of here and regroup at your place Ifurita. We'll think of a plan there." With those words, he darted left while Hiei continued straight ahead, leaving her to duck to the right and hope she wasn't followed.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The door slammed shut behind her. The sorceress shuffled to the fridge, grabbing a beer. She didn't drink other then special occasions, but now she wanted nothing more then senselessness to take her for the night. She downed it along with a few sleeping pills and collapsed on her bed, not even undressing as sweet oblivion took her on swift wings into the land of dreams.
