Age 14: Relief

Kameron awoke to silence, it seemed that he was alone-what happened to the Youko? He looked around-all he saw was trees, showing the first signs of Autumn. The forest floor was covered in red, yellow, brown and orange leaves-not a green leaf in sight on the ground nor in the treetops. He struggled to sit up-his whole body stung from the pain of the ambush still. He didn't know how long he had been asleep-for all he knew it could have been all night or all week. Sighing, he managed somehow to withdraw his wings out of sight, but it hurt extremely to do so. Kameron winced in pain-but at least now he could see more of what was around him now that he was upright. It was silent-no birds, no rustling, no wind--nothing.

Something fell ontop of him-making him yell in surprise and pain-his wide amber eyes quickly narrowed upon seeing a silver-haired Youko snuggled into his lap-happily munching on an apple.

" Hey-! Where the hell'd you get that apple and why didn't I get one?!" Kameron growled at him-tugging on one of the kitsune's ears sharply.

" Don't touch my ears!" Youko Kurama whined. " You were asleep and I got hungry. I found it in the tree-if you want one, you need to say please." He smirked.

" No."

" Aww-Come on..."

" No."

" It's easy, sound it out: ' Plleeaaa--' "

" NO! I'm not saying ANYTHING polite to you, theif. I'd much rather starve." Kameron snapped.

" Hn. Thanks a bunch, nice to know you care so much about me Kammy-boy..." The Youko said pitifully, whining again sadly.

" ..." The vampire only watched him, a blank expression on his face.

After a few moments he sighed.

" ....-please-?"

The Youko grinned to himself, pleased that he won this argument.

" Alright." He smiled, retrieving another apple from the folds of his outfit.

Kameron didn't reply, taking bites out of the apple quickly-he didn't care-he was hungry, but he wasn't going to admit it aloud!
Ater awhile they both had finished their apples, along with a couple more Youko had ended up 'bringing' with him also. Youko Kurama stood-helping Kameron up also, which surprised Kameron a bit-also making him feel guilty just with that simple gesture.

I shouldn't be so hard on him, after all-he IS helping us out, he's been nice ot me and has got us this far-why do I have to keeping giving him a hard time? He's been nice enough to me, for an ex-thief...Kameron thought, watching the silver-haired fox swish his tail back and forth as he stared around him, trying to figure out which direction they were supposed to go.

After about 10 minutes of contemplating, Kameron heard a " That way, " and looked up-seeing a huge grin on the demon's face.

" Congratulations on figuring out your directions.." He said, staring at him. " What are we waiting for? Let's get going.."

The Youko only nodded, leading the way into the woods-not speaking once. Kameron followed behind just as wordlessly, half-wondering why the every chatty fox was suddenly so silent. He didn't ask though, so he turned his mind onto other things.
It remained about as quiet the entire trip-neither talking at all, except for stopping occasionally so Youko Kurama could recall which way to go.

Finally, Kameron spoke up.

" How close are we?"

" 20 minutes left." Came the only reply.

Kameron nodded, even though Youko couldn't see him. He was careful to keep on the alert for another sound indicating another attack or just a passing trader.

Finally, they reached a clearing, big rock boulders along the edge of the clearing to their left, a small stream flowing across the empty area. The water was so clear you could see the bottom as if the water was glass. The clearing wasn't very big, but you could tell there was something odd about it even though you couldn't quite put your finger on it....

" What are we doing here?" Came the question out of Kameron's mouth before he could stop it.

" We're here." Youko Kurama said quietly-walking over to the stones.

" Here where? It's only a clearing with stones and a little stream that doesn't even have any fish, Youko.." Kameron replied, shaking his head. Had the demon fox finally lost it?

" Just shut up for once-I know what I'm doing, alright..?" Was the reply, and for once, Kameron had nothing to say in return.

Youko Kurama approached the stones and tilted his head, sighing lightly. Almost by magic the center stone lit up-it was yellow.

" What happened?" Kameron asked.

" Yellow is air. When I sighed, I released air-which lit up the stone."

" Oh. Okay."

Next, the kitsune stepped to the right and bent down. He scooped up a small bit of water and splashed it on the bottom of the rock-and it also lit up-a beautiful sky blue color.

Water..The vampire thought. Then what's the last one?

Finally, Youko went to the last stone, and kneeled down before it as well. He placed his hands on the ground and a small flower bloomed between his palms. It seemed to have sprouted up from beneath the rock itself.

Earth.

The last rock seemed to glow a white-ish color, a swirling mist rising from the top of all three and making this oval-shaped portal before them. The Youko stood-and motioned for Kameron to step through, who seemed to still be in awe by glowing rocks.

They both stepped through-and the next thing they were aware of was landing on a stone floor. Kameron looked up- and was greeted by a big, chubby face and brown eyes. He looked like a toddler, maybe he was a toddler. He seemed to be sucking on a pacifier...

" Who are you?" The toddler said and Kameron let out a yelp.

" Who are you-?! Your a toddler!!! You don't sound like one!!" Kameron demanded.

The toddler coughed, a glimmer of amusement in his eyes.

" I am Koenma, leader of this region of the demon realm. Well-In a way, Muroko* also is in charge...May I ask what you both are doing here? It's not everyday you see people lying on the entry hall floor. And Youko--"

Kameron inturrupted him, " You KNOW Youko Kurama?"

Youko rolled his eyes. " Of course, I used to live here, a LONG time ago...-Long story, too-"

" -We all thought you were dead and gone!" Koenma finished, apparently unfazed by the inturruption.

"-I nearly was, another long story. The whole point is that Kameron here, and my host- Shuuichi/Kurama need to go home to the human world." The Youko said, clearly annoyed by all the inturruptions. He hated being stopped in the middle of a sentence or thought.

" Alright-I can open a portal, but you'll have to wait until tonight-Yuuske, Hiei and Kuwabara are returning here and I have some things to discuss with them, and I'm sure they'll want to say farewell to their friend Kurama as well."

Youko sighed. " Fine."

" Why don't you all go rest up and eat-you know, get refreshed before you go?" Koenma suggested.

" No problem. I'm hungry, I need sleep-and to properly take care of my injuries. I need a shower too..." Kameron replied.

Youko's head went back and forth between the two as they talked like a ping-pong ball. These two could probably go on for hours. Not wanting to stay any longer to find out he simply stood and walked off down a seperate hallway-leaving the other two to stop and watch him; puzzled.

Kameron stood too.

" Well-I'll go-follow Youko-I guess...Thank you for your help.." He bowed in thanks.

Koenma waved him off, smiling. " Anytime. Now shoo, enjoying being pampered these last few hours.." He laughed to himself as he disappeared down a different hallway, muttering to himself about food or something.

Kameron shok his head-turning and went off to catch up with the silver tail that was turning the corner at the end of the hall.
