Age 16: Home Sweet Home
Kameron and Kurama spent the majority of a year within the territory of Koenma's rule. Kameron slowly healed-the poison on the arrows had affected him more than it should for a vampire. (A/N: If I forgot to mention/explain-Kameron's a vampire-but we'll get into that story later- if I haven't already.) Kurama healed too-11 years in the confines of Gouki's home had scared him-not only mentally but emotionally scarring him as well. It would take awhile to get on with his life after that. No one should deserve to go through that.
Kameron knocked softly on Kurama's door-opening it when he heard a soft " Come in."
" How are you?" Kameron smiled, stepping inside. He wore blue pants and a black silk top-his black necklace held a small crystal in the center- a tint of red showing he belonged to the Mortoi clan of vampires.
" I'm alright. It still feels odd-after eight months here..." Kurama trailed off. He wore an emerald green shirt to match his eyes, and white pants, he was barefoot-like most of the other people here. He had a book in his lap. sitting cross-legged on his bed as he leaded against the headboard.
" I know what you mean. At least we are away from there. As long as your safe, my friend- I'm happy." The vampire's amber eyes sparkled with his usual flame again-he was back to his old self. Kameron took a seat on the edge of the bed-crossing his legs.
" What are you reading?"
" When The Fire Dies. It's how this person loses someone they care about, and how he lives life for the first time without his loved one-since they were together from birth." Kurama explained-setting the book aside.
" I've read it before, I think. It's a sad book-but the person is a terrific writer." Kameron nodded his agreement.
Kurama smiled, and was silent for a moment before speaking.
" Kameron-You never told me how you became a vampire." He said quietly, making Kameron look up at him quickly.
" Wh-...what brought this up?"
" Whenever I asked before-you had a sad look in your eyes, like you were going to cry. I've seen you cry in your sleep before-or when you thought you were alone...-I never thought you could cry, you never showed any signs of weakness like that before..." Kurama said thoughtfully.
"..." Kameron was silent for a moment-looking back down. He shut his eyes-taking a deep breath. " The....The memory-..is painful..."
" Oh.." Kurama said. " I'm sorry-.." He said, but was cut off.
"..-No, You deserve to know...-I should have told you from the beginning, but it was-....hard..."
Kameron paused-before speaking, his voice was soft and sad-his eyes were shut as he spoke. When he did speak-the owrds were careful-as if trying to prevent himself from crying as he did.
" I was only six. I had a twin brother named Zane. He was only five minutes younger than I was. We were outside one day, a-and we heard a crash from inside. We went to see what had happened, and out came two men-one had white hair and green eyes-dark, like a forest. He seemed to be the leader. The other had blonde hair and blue eyes. I could see the blood coming from the corner of their mouths, and I knew instantly they were up to no good. I told Zane to run-he only got a yard or two before the blonde male caught him. I found out the white-haired man's name was Xander. The other was Ryan. They changed us-turning us into immortals..-into vampires...But Ryan was reckless. He hadn't done it before-and was still semi "blood-drunk" if you'd like to call it. To change a vampire-every second must be precise, or your at risk of killing the person you are trying to change. That's what he did-He bit too deeply, it struck something improtant, as far as I knew-my brother died of blood loss. The last thing he saw was me being changed-I could see the fear-I could almost smell it; taste it-...feel it. I was scared too-and sad. I didn't want it to happen. It happened agianst our will. They had killed our parents-to stop them from interferring. I spent some time in Xander's castle-with the Mortoi clan before coming here. I remember crying for two weeks straight over the loss of my brother. He was only six.."
Kameron paused; his breathing becoming irregular, you could see tears falling from his eyes-there was clear pain and sadness in them now that his eyes had opened once more. He looked up at his friend, who's emerald eyes were shining with tears of his own.
" Kameron-..." Kurama whimpered; moving forward to hug Kameron-who faltered, tears falling freely down his face as he could no longer hold them in. He stayed that way for a few as he tried to regain his composture.
" I-I'm ok-okay..." Kameron sniffled, sitting up to wipe his eyes. He managed a watery smile. " B-besides, I-I'm not here to tell you my sob story, I ca-came here t-to tell y-you Ko-Koenma's le-letting u-us leave..."
" Y-you me-mean-..." Kurama started.
" Y-yeah..-H-he's letting u-us go ho-home..." Kameron smiled again.
~~~~~~~3 Hours Timelapse~~~~~~~
Kameron and Kurama stood at the gates of Koenma's place-an oval portal before them.
" Ready?" Kameron asked.
" Yes. Are you?" Kurama said in return.
" Yes."
" Will we end up in the same place?" Kurama asked him.
" Koenma said in the same city, yes-but the same place or not depends." Kameron said. He gave Kurama one last hug. " That's if I don't see you anytime soon. Be careful out there, okay?"
" I will. You do too-I'll look for you...I can't wait to see how everyone is doing...I met this girl KK through a letter-and she sent me a computer-laptop-type thing that let me talk to her online. I arranged it so we'll end up in the same city she's in so I can stay with her." Kurama smiled.
" In old friend of mine, Lavrin is in the same town-He got a room for me at an apartment he's staying at, so look me up sometime, alright?" Kameron nodded, smiling in return.
" You bet!" Was his reply.
The took a deep breath as they jumped in together-seconds felt like hours as they seemed to black out-then a flash of light as they hit the hard floor. Looking around Kurama could see trees, and a big yard. He stood-and hit someone, causing him to fall again.
" Watch it-!" He yelped-rubbing his head.
" You watch it!" Said a haughty female voice.
Kurama looked up and came face-to-face with a girl who looked about his age. She had fiery red hair and blue eyes, which were narrowed, then widen in surprise.
" Hey, Your Kurama-right? I'm KK!" She said-grinning. She helped him up-unable to help laughing at his expression.
" I'm sorry, KK! I didn't see who you were! Where am I?" Kurama asked.
" My house, of course-how did you end up here? You weren't here when I walked outside just a minute ago. I walked down the stairs and-BOOM!-there you were!" She said.
" Long story. I'll explain later. I have to tell you now that I really do appreciate you letting me stay. I'm so far away from home and-.."
" It's no problem. It's what friends are for, right?" KK replied, tilting her head. " You said there was a friend with you-where is he?"
"..." Kurama looked around-seeing no sign of Kameron, though. " I guess he didn't end up in the same place. He's in the city though, I know that."
" We can look for him sometime, then-If you wanna." KK said.
" Sure-but...-uh-..." He held up his hands, looking at himself.
" Take a shower and eat, we can look any time. I'm sure he can take care of himself-from what you were telling me." The girl shrugged. " Besides-I have to finish packing and getting ready for a trip to a friend's soon, His name is Wakka. I'm not leaving you here-so when I go, Your going with me. You look like you could use a vacation and some fun. I'm not taking no for an answer so don't even start THINKING up an excuse, buster." KK said, making a face.
Kurama couldn't help but giggle. " I wasn't saying no. But I have no clothes-..."
" We'll go shopping."
" I don't know how long we'll be gone-..."
" Awhile, a few weeks at least."
" And I might need money..-"
" All paid for-My boyfriend can do it. He's rich. His name is Duke!" She giggled.
" You have an answer for everything, don't you?" Kurama laughed.
" Yep!" KK grinned again. " Now go do what I told you to do!" She pushed him into the house-Kurama laughing along the way. Things were turning out all right after all.
