Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Do I Belong Here? Who Am I, Really? ❯ Chapter 1 ( Chapter 1 )
Sakura never was an ordinary girl. At the age of five she was found laying in a gutter on a rainy day. After being checked for any identification, she was sent to the nearest orphanage. When she was asked her name, all she gave was, "Sakura," insisting she couldn't remember anything else.
Because of Sakura's shorter form, she was a prime target of bullies. Using funds saved for the girl, she was sent to the nearest dojo for defensive maneuvers. It helped her with single enemies but not groups. However when she was overwhelmed, odd things happened to the nearby plants, usually killing or severely injuring her attackers. She is now 16 years old and requested to attend the local Junior High school. Little did she now it would change her life.
Kurama sighed as the sensei droned on about the foil method in Algebra. His head perked up as the door slid open and the principle stepped in. He passed a note to the sensei and they shared a few whispered words.
"Students, please welcome Miss Sakura. She has a hard past and is trying to improve her future, so please try to be kind. Come in Sakura-san." A small girl, about the size of Hiei, nervously shuffled inside. Sparkling emerald eyes stared out at her new peers. Sakura gently fingered her black hair, styled similarly to Kurama's.
"Sakura-san, please sit beside Suuichi. Suuichi, please raise your hand."
Kurama raised his hand and watched as the small girl made her way next to him. He flashed her a smile to witch she briefly nodded her head. He gave an inaudible sigh, it was going to be hard to get through her thick shields.
The bell rang signaling the end of the school day. Sakura picked up her books and ran out of the classroom. Kurama followed, wondering what could make her run like she saw death herself. He lost track of her, as she ducked through the crowded hallway. Sakura was just passing the gate when hands shot out and grabbed her. She bit her lip as she was lifted high into the air.
"Well look who we have here mates. Its miss-Sakura. What did you have such a 'hard past' from? Bullies like us shorty.?" The Hall-monitor Ushio stepped infront of her. Two of his cronies held Sakura's arms, preventing her from running away.
"Now... Give us all your money and you won't get hurt."
"I... I do not have any money..." Sakura whispered hanging her head.
"Wrong answer, Shrimp." Ushio pulled his fist and slammed it into Sakura's stomach. Sakura gasped in pain as the entire group began to pummel her.
"S-stop it!" She cried. Something inside her clicked, and the tree ranches began to sway though there was no breeze. The group was startled as grass wove itself around their shoes. Tree branches crashed their mighty limbs down upon the hopeless party.
Kurama shuffled along the pathway, having lost Sakura and given up hope. In mid-step, he gasped as he felt a large dose of youkai used towards the gates, and the plants willing themselves to grow roots stretching forward. He picked up his pace, running to the scene of the crime to put an end to the perpetrator. The kitsune inhaled sharply as he saw Sakura, Ushio and his thugs being cut by sharp twigs. Ushio and his group were knocked unconscious, ut the girl was curled up in a ball, jumping each time she was hit.
Kurama ceased the plants rough actions, and gently touched Sakura's shoulder. She pulled away from his hand and looked up. Seeing worried emerald eyes and Kurama's face, she quickly stood and bowed to her savior.
"Thank you for helping me Suuichi." Sakura said. Kurama tucked a loose strand of hair behind his ear, thinking. He felt that the youkai had come from Sakura, but that it was untrained, she had no control over it. He also felt a deeper entity within her, much like Hiei.
"Suuichi?" Sakura asked, shaking his shoulder. He snapped himself from his stupor.
"Would you like me to teach you to control your youkai?" Kurama offered. Sakura's eyes lit up at the suggestion.
"Is that what is causing all plants to act weird around me? If it is, I will gladly take your offer Suuichi."
"Please, call me by my real name, Kurama. We will talk about the details tomorrow during lunch, but I am afraid that during my training you shall disguise yourself as a boy, for reasons I will explain later." Kurama took a breath of air to continue, when he felt a glimmer of Hiei's youkai, quickly approaching. 'Shoot! I have to get Sakura out of here, she will need Hiei's tutoring. "Sakura please leave, now! One of the reasons will be here soon, and he can't know you are a girl. Please, leave, Now!"
Sakura looked at Kurama oddly, than nodded and turned to run towards the orphanage. Kurama watched her run out of sight, and turned his attention to Hiei who stood in a tree watching him.
"Hello, Hiei." Kurama greeted the Koorime.
"Hn." Hiei answered.
"What brings you here?"
"I felt a strong youkai, and thought I would investigate."
"Yes, he left already. Strangest demon I have met, really. Seems to be a mix of fire demon and youko. Probably you will have to train him. I know I am."
"Hn." Hiei answered before he flitted away. Kurama let out a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding, wondering how to convince Hiei.
'He will probably be by later, so I can talk to him later.' The kitsune sighed then trudged home, wondering what he had gotten himself into.
