Summary: [songfic] Keiko has been pushed to the limit and no longer wants Yusuke near her. What if she made a mistake?

Keiko slammed the door in Yusuke's face. She was tired of him lying to her and not trusting her enough to tell her. The spirit detective was trying to get her to open the door by yelling and pounding on the wood. She ignored him; she had had enough. She sat down in a chair and waited until the sounds on the door faded away.

Sometimes I need to remember just to breathe
Sometimes I need you to stay away from me
Sometimes I'm in disbelief, I didn't know
Somehow I need you to go

Yusuke had eventually left. The yelling and pounding ceased, and Keiko sighed. They would make up later but she was too upset to do anything now. She reached over and picked up her book from the table. She flipped through to the page she had left off at and began reading from it. Hopefully, this would sooth her irritation.

She heard something rapping on the walls of her home and froze. It stopped and she stood up. It stopped and she stood up. It's probably just Yusuke, she thought and went to the door. She opened it, only to discover that what was in the doorway was not her childhood friend. She did what she could do. She screamed.

Don't stay
Forget our memories
Forget our possibilities
What you were changing me into
Just give me myself back and
Don't stay
Forget our memories
Forget our possibilities
Take all you faithlessness with you
Just give me myself back and
Don't stay

The demon lunged at her and she delivered a killer spike to his head. Her hand left an imprint on his face but that didn't seem to phase him. He grabbed her wrist. Keiko screamed Yusuke's name but he didn't come. He didn't hear her. How long had it been since he stopped pounding on her door? The demon swung at her, effectively throwing her to the other side of the room.

He must still be mad at me, she thought as she watched the demon move toward her. She had nowhere to go.

Sometimes I feel like I trusted you too well
Sometimes I just feel like screaming at myself
Sometimes I'm in disbelief, I didn't know
Somehow I need to be alone

The demon lashed out again but missed. Keiko ran to the door as fast as she could. Something slammed into her and she flew into the wall, dropping motionlessly to the floor. She didn't rise. The demon smiled and picked her up, draping her over his shoulder. Yusuke was too late. He would never show up in time.

Don't stay
Forget our memories
Forget our possibilities
What you were changing me into
Just give me myself back and
Don't stay
Forget our memories
Forget out possibilities
Take all your faithlessness with you
Just give me myself back and
Don't stay

Yusuke heard Keiko cry out and hurried back to her apartment as fast as he could. He climbed the stairs and saw her door open and the living room trashed. He gasped. She was in trouble and he wasn't there. He had to find her. She wasn't going to be hurt because of him.

"Keiko!"

I don't need you anymore, I don't want to be ignored
I don't need one more day of you wasting me away
I don't need you anymore, I don't want to be ignored
I don't need one more day of you wasting me away
With no apologies

Yusuke felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around to see Kurama and Hiei. He had walked far and didn't even know where he had ambled to. He found himself sitting on a bench in the park, thinking about nothing but Keiko.

"Yusuke, what's happened?" Kurama sat down next to the spirit detective. Yusuke looked up at the sky.

"Keiko's gone."

Don't stay
Forget our memories
Forget our possibilities
What you were changing me into
Just give me myself back and
Don't stay
Forget our memories
Forget our possibilities
Take all you faithlessness with you
Just give me myself back and
Don't stay

Keiko awoke with a terrible headache. She didn't know where she was and prayed for Yusuke to find her. She didn't want to stay here anymore.

Don't stay

Tears slid down her cheeks. She may have been a perverse person but could not hold them back.

"Yusuke." She closed her eyes, alone, as far as she knew, in her misery.

Don't stay
