Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Dragon Keeper ❯ The Carnival, Hiei's Fate ( Chapter 6 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Bon Soir, or should I say Matin, all, I am updating a bit early because I got reviews like I wanted. See what happens when good readers review, it inspires the authoress to update quicker. Anywayz, I realize that there are a lot of unfamiliar names that were used in the last chapter; but all of those names will be explained in later chapters. I can explain one and possibly another right now. Kamir is simply a name I gave to the thief who took in Hiei when he was thrown off of the Koorime's mountain in demon world. As you can probably tell I chose to not make Hiei a virgin. The reason I did this was because demons rape; the vast majority of them are pitiless and driven by their greed and loins (this mostly applies to lower class demons). Being that Hiei was being boarded up by them, was killing the men who tried to steal his necklace, was a mean little bitch and was keeping away his tear gem from the bandits, I can only surmise that they had gotten back at him somehow before they just abandoned him.

Taishi…well can't say too much about her because I don't want to give too much of the story away; but, she was Hiei's lowest point of existence. The worst crime he committed. Hiei steals, he kills, but this was the only time he ever raped someone. After he rapes her, it changes him in a lot of different ways…which I cannot say now. But this will come MUCH later on in the story.

If you all have any questions comments or constructive criticisms you want to make please place them in a review or e-mail me. I would really like some feedback.

Well on to the story.

Chapter 6: The Carnival...Hiei's Fate part 1

Hiei lay sprawled in the dirt. His entire body was covered in blood. His life was leaving him. He had only one breath left in his body. “Yukina,” he whispered as his life faded away...

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!” Yukina rose up from her futon screaming. It was the same dream; the same one that haunted her for three nights now. Every time she closed her eyes, that image popped into her head, Hiei covered in blood, dying. Tears began to fall from her eyes at the thought of Hiei's death. He had been missing for some time now and no one knew of his whereabouts, not even Kurama. `Something must be wrong, he must be hurt or in danger,' she thought.

Kurama, Yusuke, and Botan came running into the room. “Yukina, what happened,” asked Kurama. Just as Yukina was about to answer, she was interrupted by Kuwabara's shouting. He was trying to cut through everyone to reach her.

“Hey! Watch it you big idiot!” said Yusuke as Kuwabara stepped on his foot. When Kuwabara finally reached her, he took her hands in his.

“Don't worry Yukina, everything's alright; your brave man is here.”

“I'm sorry to have disturbed you all; I just had a nightmare, that's all.”

“A nightmare? Must've been one hell of a nightmare,” said Yusuke.

“This is the third time that I've had this dream,” she paused for a moment and closed her eyes, “I think Hiei is in danger.”

“What the shrimp, don't worry baby, he can take care of himself,” said Kuwabara

“Kuwabara's right Yukina, I have known Hiei for a long time now and he's a survivor. There is no need to worry,” said Kurama.

“But, he's been missing for three days! He's never been gone for that long before. And in my dream, he's covered in blood and dying!!” more tears began to stream down her cheeks, “what if he really is in trouble and my dreams are some kind of warning? He could die!”

Kurama looked down into Yukina's tear streaked face. Even though he would never admit it to her, she had a point. Hiei never disappeared for this long and to top it off, they were targets for the dragon keepers. Even he had begun to worry about him. But, he could not tell her this, so he lied, “Yukina, there is no nothing to worry about; Hiei does this often. He goes off on his own and doesn't tell anyone his whereabouts or when he's going to return. Do not concern yourself with these thoughts; I assure you Hiei will return soon.”

“I hope you're right.” She said.

“Will you be alright dear?” asked Botan.

“Yes, don't worry about me,” with that everyone except Kuwabara left the room. He looked down to watch Yukina. She was still shaken from the nightmare.

'Man, that dream must've really tripped her up, maybe something did happen to the shrimp,' he thought.

“Kazuma,” she said with a shaky voice as she looked up into his eyes, “can you please tell the others that I won't be able to join them at the carnival tonight. I'm really not feeling up to it,”

“Sure, do you want me to stay with you?”

“No I'll be just fine, enjoy yourself tonight Kazuma,” she forced a smile out to reassure him.

In the meantime (the next room)

“Kurama, are you sure that Hiei's alright? He has been gone for a while.” Said Yusuke.

“I'm not sure, at first I thought his disappearance a bit odd, but now, with Yukina's dreams about his death, I must confess that I am worried.”

“Yes, and since they're twins, the bond between them is very strong. Yukina's dreams may not be dreams at all but a warning that her brother is in danger,”

“Who's brother?” Kuwabara had walked in from Yukina's room and overheard the last bit of their conversation.

“Uh...Uh...” Yusuke and Botan stammered simultaneously. They couldn't tell Kuwabara that Yukina was Hiei's sister. Regardless if the jaganshi was here or not, they wouldn't risk their very own decapitation for relinquishing this secret.

“No one Kuwabara, we were just talking about the girl I'm bringing to the carnival tonight.” Said Kurama calmly, saving all of their hides.

“Oh, what about her?” he asked.

“She's the one that may be tied to the dragon keepers. I'm bringing her to keep an eye on her.”

“Ooohhh, are you sure you aren't bringing her for some other reason like to keep an eye on her ASS!” teased Yusuke; laughing heartily as he poked Kurama in the ribs. He received a hard smack on the back of his head from Botan for that one.
“Kurama is not like that Yusuke!” said Botan.

Kurama snorted slightly, “This is simply an investigation, nothing more.”

“Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, Yukina said that she's not coming tonight,” said Kuwabara.

“That is probably for the best, it could be dangerous.” Said Kurama.

Later that night: at the spring carnival...

-:-

“Everyone, I'd like you to meet Yumi Nakamura,” the gang: Yusuke, Keiko, Kuwabara and Botan stared at the newcomer. The girl stood about a half a head shorter than Kurama and wore a black spaghetti strapped tank with sandblasted, low riding, destroyed jeans and some Mary Jane tennis. Her long wavy brown hair was pulled back into a high ponytail. She glanced at the two other females of the group and felt a little out of place considering how they were dressed. Keiko had on a
knee length, mauve, trumpet skirt, an off the shoulder white peasant top and some black Mary Janes. Her other friend, Botan, was wearing a light pink halter tunic with a white pleated mini skirt and white kitten healed sandals. She merely tucked her insecurities inside and wore the mask of indifference.

Everyone greeted her, `this can't be the demon Kurama was talking about, I can't feel any youki from her,' Yusuke thought while watching the girl.

“It is nice to meet you all,” she said pleasantly enough.

Botan's eyes flicked down to Yumi's neck and she gasped when she saw her torque, “My goodness, it's beautiful!” She reached her hand out to touch the deep, red stone. Yumi, sensing what she was about to do snatched her hand, abruptly away from the necklace. Behind her back she felt tension brewing within Suuichi and an influx of spirit energy coming from both Yusuke and Kuwabara.

Yumi smiled inwardly, `so this is why you brought me here Suuichi; for further observation. Yes you must have already informed them of your suspicions of me. Clever boy.'

Only a split second had passed from when Yumi had grabbed Botan's hand. She brought her hand up to her face and began inspecting her nails, “My lady, your nails are quite expertly manicured,” her eyes were still trained on the nails when she felt Yusuke's and Kuwabara's reiki levels drop back to normal. She looked up into Botan's eyes and smiled sweetly, “exquisite,” said as she removed her hand gently. She turned her attention back to Suuichi, “You truly do have beautiful and loyal friends,”

Keiko ran up to Yumi and looped her arm through the other girl's, “That was such a nice thing to say!” the girl said, oblivious to what just happened. “Come on, I want to hear everything about you,” Keiko dragged Yumi off to engage in idle chitchat.

Kurama watched Keiko drag Yumi away. He glanced towards Botan- her plum hued eyes were already questioning him- giving her a look, which not only was concerned for her well fair, but also told her that they would be discussing this later. Botan nodded discreetly and then ran off to join Keiko and Yumi. Yusuke and Kuwabara approached Kurama, both stealing glances at the object of Kurama's attention, Yumi.

“I swear, if she would have hurt Botan I would've given her a spirit gun right up the ass.” Yusuke said, his voice dark and deadly serious. Any threat made on his friends meant death to the fucker who dared.

Kuwabara cringed at the though of having the spirit gun launched up
the crapper, “Ehg! That's disgusting Urameshi!” He turned to Kurama whose face was, as always, quite impassive. But his eyes…his eyes were seething and Kuwabara was getting bad vibes from the once spirit fox, “Kurama…what are you planning?” he said, from the look on the kitsune's face and the bad vibes he was getting, he could only surmise that it was something bad.

Kurama glanced up at Kuwabara and graced the endearing `warrior of love' with a small sincere smile. He knew what the carrot top was asking of him, `was he in control of himself? Was he going to do something he would later regret with this girl?' Kuwabara was right to worry for he was weary from the recent events: Hiei's disappearance, their being hunted, this case and now Yumi. But he would not do anything foolish. His inner Youko was not completely out of control…yet anyway.

“Fear not Kuwabara, I merely need a few moments alone with her, grant me that, and I will find out everything I need to know,” he said mysteriously.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to them, on top of a hill overlooking the carnival, three demons looked down on the Reikai tentei like hawks about to snatch up their helpless prey. The darkness of the night surrounded the demons like a shroud of death. Each pair of eyes gave off an ominous light. One pair gave off gold light, another gave off light blue light and the third gave off a reddish gold light. A female voice came form the reddish gold eyes, “she's down there, don't forget, make it look real and make it bloody. We want to give those fools of spirit world something to sweat about.”

The two other demons nodded, then the reddish gold eyes disappeared.

“This going to be fun brother,” said the one with the blue eyes.

“Indeed sister,” said the one with the gold eyes, “I've been waiting too long for this day,” the two began to laugh as they disappeared in an ominous fog.

-:-

Kurama had disengaged himself and Yumi from the group and brought her into the enclosed Ferris wheel. As they rose above the city, Yumi looked down at the scenery in awe. It had been a long time since she'd had fun. In demon world one did not have a life filled with toys, games and fun. One simply did what they could to survive and to gain power. Her life was certainly no exception to this fact. Life had been strict, hard and painful...lonely, never fun.

She looked over at Suuichi who had been admiring the same view as she was. `These humans have no idea how lucky they truly are. I envy them, admire them, but at the same time…I despise them.'

Kurama looked over at Yumi; she had been staring at him for sometime now. He had noticed her through his peripheral vision that her expression had changed from one of happiness and enjoyment to one of loneliness and something akin to …hate. She seemed so lost in her thoughts that she did not even realize he had called out to her.

“What is it Yumi,” he asked, curious as to what had caused this sudden change in her.

She suddenly became conscious of him, of her surroundings. He was staring at her; a shadow of concern was etched into his features. `Had I been that transparent with my thoughts and emotions?' She plastered her Cheshire cat smile on her face, “Oh Suuichi, I had no idea you worried over me so much. You should be careful,” she hesitated as his gaze sharpened once again on her and he gave her that same look. She hated that look; it as the same one he gave her at Kiate's café.

“Why should I be careful?” he said. He crossed his right leg over his knee and rested the side of his head on his knuckle.

His question startled her. She barely heard what he said, for her attention was rapt upon the intensity of his gaze, “What?”

He chuckled lowly, “I find it rather amusing, that your mind wanders at the most interesting times.”

“Hmmm,” she smirked, `you have no idea,' she thought as she leaned back and mimicked the way he sat.

“Just now, or rather a few moments ago, you were thinking of something. I couldn't help but notice the way your demeanor changed,” Yumi arched her eyebrow at him delicately, “Tell me what is on your mind. It seems to be burdening you.”

“I do not believe that you can handle what I am thinking Suuichi. Such thoughts are not for the mind of someone as pure as you,” she said, challenging him.

“Try me,” was all he said. Her eyes widened at not only the look in his eyes, but also at the tone of his voice. He looked and sounded…dangerous. His eyes had an eerie tint to them, they were both light and dark at the same time; and they were viciously narrowed. Before she thought of him as a toy; the time they spent together as a game. But now, she was convinced, this man was her enemy.

Suddenly, a loud BOOM echoed through the air. The entire area, including the Ferris wheel shook. Fire and rubble flew through the air as the explosions continued. “What's going on!?!” Yumi said frightfully.

“What indeed,” Kurama said as he cast a suspicious glance towards Yumi. Another explosion occurred near the Ferris wheel causing it to begin to tip over. Yumi screamed as she fell into Kurama. “We have to get out of here before we are killed!” said Kurama. He grabbed her wrist and opened the door of the compartment leading outside. They were really high up. “We are going to have to climb down,” shouted Kurama. The screams from the frantic crowd as well as the explosions were making it nearly impossible to hear. The two began to climb down the massive wheel; Kurama carrying Yumi on his back. Another explosion sounded through the air, rumbling the already tilting wheel. `What on earth could be causing this,' thought Kurama.
-:-

“HEY!!! You stupid ass demons!! Why don't you come down here and fight!” Yusuke was screaming at the two cloaked figures that sat on top of a freshly demolished building. The two had come out of nowhere and had begun decimating the area, destroying everything and everyone in their paths. “Show yourselves!!” he shouted.

“As you wish human filth,” hissed the female voice. The two removed their black cloaks and revealed themselves. They were a boy and a girl and they looked somewhat alike except for their hair skin and eye color. The boy who looked as if he were in his mid twenties and was about 6 ft tall had long, green hair, the color of a dark, amber jade, which was pulled back in a low ponytail that hung just below his shoulders. Although his hair was tied back, many shorter strands hung about to frame his handsome face. His skin was a light bronze color, which highly contrasted his striking gold eyes. He smiled jovially, revealing his extremely sharp fangs, and winked at Botan cockily. The girl was slightly shorter and looked as though she was in her early twenties. She had wavy light blue hair that hung to her shoulders and ice blue eyes with golden flecks running through them. Her skin was pale, almost bluish in color. Yusuke stared at this woman for some time, finally muttering “...Jun... Pei...”

Now was that a cliffhanger or what. In case you all don't remember, Jun Pei was the teacher from the first chapter. Anyways, the next chapter will be the conclusion of the carnival, Hiei will be...found; secrets will be revealed to Kurama and Yumi and a battle with an army of half snake half humanoid demons are going to give our group hell.

Will try to update soon.
