She infiltrates a meeting and discovers the worst. Hiei is the new leader!

Forced to reveal him to Lai, Amara seeks the help of her old friends, Kurama, Yusuke, and Kuwabara. She tries to save Hiei before other members of Lai can get to him, only to have him turn on her. The four get separated and Amara is thrown into an awkward situation with one, when she discovers a cloaking spell. Before the spell can be completed, Hiei finds them and his insanity is only furthered. The war continues and they are swept into a blood bath. One that can only end with an unexpected death.

Enter Amara: Hiei's Neurosis

Prologue

Perfect Secrets

Amara woke to the sound of birds. The sunlight spilled through the window, warming her figure. She stretched her arms above her head, ready for another perfect day. She reached over to her side and felt nothing but the bed. Amara rolled over and saw Hiei's side of the bed made perfectly.

Sighing disappointedly she sat up, only to smile playfully. Curled at the edge of their king size bed, was her mate. She got on all fours and crawled toward him. His breaths were steady and slow, indicating he was asleep. She leaned forward and kissed his closed Jagan eye. It opened first, followed by his other two. "Morning you," she said.

A flash of light and she was back with her head on the pillow. Hiei was on top of her, his lips locked with hers and his arms holding her to him. When he broke the kiss he smiled. "Good morning."

Amara giggled and pulled the covers over them. She wrapped her legs around Hiei's waist, feeling his already aroused member. He kissed her lips hard and she moaned into him. His hands trailed down her chest toward the top of her pajama pants. Wanting to torture her, he untied the drawstring slowly before beginning to tug them down. The phone rang and they both groaned in annoyance.

Hiei got to the phone first. "This better be good," he said angrily into the receiver. He watched his mate sit up in the bed and curse under her breath as she retied the drawstring. He could smell that the ringing of the phone had made her lose the mood. He stared at her hungrily as she crossed her arms in front if her chest and glared at the phone. He said, "Pray this is worth my time."

Amara heard the kitsune's voice from the phone. "Sorry to ruin your morning Hiei. But this is rather important. Koenma wants all five of us in his office, yesterday." She smiled as she heard Hiei curse his boss.

"Tell him we'll be there soon, fox." Hiei cradled the phone, harder than necessary, and glared at it.

She got up and walked behind him, wrapping her arms around him and kissing his temple, "If he made Kurama interrupt our morning, then it must be important. We should go."

He turned around and kissed her quickly. "I know, and I still hate them for it. But, for you, I won't kill them."

Amara smiled and hurriedly showered then dressed. She wore faded jeans, combat boots, and a black tank top. She braided her hair quickly and packed her daggers on. Despite the fact that she didn't work for him, Koenma still wanted her advice on the missions he sent the others on. Her experience at Lai had made her a valuable ally.

Hiei too quickly showered, then dressed in his normal attire. He admired the way Amara kept her cool. It was beginning to rub off on him. If he'd been with any other girl, Kurama wouldn't be breathing, and Koenma would be pretty close to death as well. But for some reason, he could handle it when he was with Amara. As long as he had her, he could do anything. He tied his bandanna around his Jagan and the pair left their house in the London suburbia.

After they became mates that night, they decided to remain in London so Amara could be close to her mother. Hiei had also come to love Amara's mother as his own. She accepted him immediately because her daughter did. When he finally told Yukina of his being her brother, both Amara and her mother were right there to support him. They then accepted her into the family as well. She was in Japan, living with the fool Kuwabara, but Hiei didn't mind. As long as Yukina was happy, Kuwabara could live.

Yukina and Amara became as close as sisters. Occasionally, whenever Yukina and Kuwabara would come to visit, Amara would kick the guys out and they would have just a girls night together. Hiei knew that they were talking about their sexual experiences, and while he hated and shuddered at the thought of Kuwabara with his sister that way, he was pleased that he never hurt her, never forced her, and always made sure she was happy before he was. Hiei finally had a semi-perfect existence.

They arrived at Spirit World and headed to Koenma's office. Both noticed the absence of the hustle and bustle in the offices and wondered if they'd come too late. They came to Koenma's door, not hearing anyone, or feeling their presence. Glancing at each other Hiei took offensive stance and Amara took defensive. They opened the door and walked in.

The lights were off in the large room and a dull glow from the hall spilled in. Hiei walked forward as Amara fumbled for the switch. She found it, but when she flicked it up and down, nothing. They both knew something was terribly wrong. They heard a small noise to their left. It sounded like a giggle. Instantly they assumed someone had killed the others and was more than excited to kill them. That's when the lights blared on.

"SURPRISE!" The whole room shouted. "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!" Amara and Hiei were shocked to see Koenma, Botan, Ogre, Yusuke, Kurama, Kuwabara, and everyone packed into the office. Hiei looked angry at first, but his face softened at the smile on Yukina's face. Yukina came up to him and gave him a big hug. "Congratulations on the first anniversary with your mate, brother."

Hiei hugged her back. "Thank you, sister."

Amara's mother stepped out of the crowd and hugged her daughter tightly. "I'm so happy for you Amara."

Smiling, she replied, "Thanks mom!"

After many congratulations the party started. Music played from nowhere and everyone began to dance. Hiei and Amara danced as well. "Did you know," Amara accused playfully.

Hiei shook his head. "I thought you did."

They both grinned, knowing that their friends and family had really kept a secret from two telepaths. Hiei went to cut in with Kuwabara and Yukina. Amara smiled. He was such a protective brother, but Yukina didn't care. She loved him despite his past and how he felt about her choice of boyfriend. She watched them together and studied his face. He was so calm. Something he never was unless he was with either her, or Yukina. She loved him most like this. A hand rested on her shoulder.

"May I have this dance," came the voice of her friend.

Amara turned and threw Kurama a smile. "Yes you may." They were dancing a fair distance from Hiei and most of the other group. Kurama looked at her with a serious face. "I hate to drag down the positive emotions of the day, but you need to tell him Amara."

She looked away, knowing that Kurama was right. "I will Kurama, it's just... He wants me to have a normal, happy life, and he knows how messed up I got last time. I just want things to regulate a little more. After that, then I swear I'll tell him."

Kurama nodded, knowing she would tell him in her own time, no matter what he said. "All right, but don't wait too much longer. He won't like that you've been keeping this from him."

"I know," she said quietly. The song ended and they decided it was time for the feast.

By the end of the day, everyone was fed, watered, and tired. Hiei and Amara had received a few celebratory gifts from their friends. They stumbled into their house, both slightly drunk. Laughing loudly and making a lot of noise as they ascended the stairs to their room. Upon entering, Hiei grasped her by the arms and pushed her onto the bed. He kissed her passionately before whispering, "A little over a year ago, I never thought you and I could be together. But when you told me about how you felt, I just about leapt for joy." Hiei kissed her forehead. "You're the best thing that's ever happened to me Amara."

Grinning, Amara hugged him to her. "I never thought I'd see you again after those things I said. At the time, I thought that I really meant them. I was so angry and foolish that I failed to see the happiness I could have. But when you showed up again, admitting that you still loved me, that's when I knew. That's when everything I'd ever done seemed pointless, and all that mattered was what I said next. Since the moment you took me back I've only been happier once. And that, was tonight Hiei. I love you."

Hiei closed his eyes and breathed in her scent. "I love you too."

Exhausted from the day's events, Hiei and Amara crawled into bed, peeling off their clothes. Hiei held her to him and wrapped their bodies in the warm comforter. As soon as their heads hit the pillows, they were both asleep.

Amara woke in the morning to the clap of thunder. She shot up in the bed, close to tears with a scream building in her throat. Hiei shot up beside her. "What is it?"

She looked over at her mate and sighed, realizing it had only been a nightmare. She leaned against Hiei and whispered, "I had the dream again."

Sighing Hiei lay the two of them back down. "How bad was it this time?" He wrapped his arms around her, feeling how cold her skin was. She was shaking. He hated it when the dream made her shake. He hated anything that could scare her.

"It was really bad. I saw them killing Bane. Then I saw myself murder Vall and Elva. But when I got to the part where I was supposed to kill the Perils, they did to me, what I did to them. It's getting more vivid and worse Hiei." He didn't know what to do to comfort her anymore. So he settled on what he said the first time the dream occurred.

"You know they've forgiven you. We went to Spirit World so you could apologize and they forgave you. They knew it was their time, and they don't want you to feel guilty."

She closed her eyes, fighting the tears. "I know, but I still feel guilty anyway."

Hiei left a few hours later. He had to do some work and wouldn't be back until late that night or the next morning. Amara was thankful for the day to herself. She needed time to think about her emotions and how she was going to tell Hiei her secret. It bothered her that Kurama knew before him though.

It wasn't as if she'd just told Kurama her secret. No, it had been shortly after her dreams started. Hiei had been worried and while he was out of town he wanted Kurama to check up on her. She wasn't home so Kurama waited. When Amara returned she'd been covered in cuts and bruises from a serious case. She was putting her remedies on when Kurama alerted her to his presence. She told him the truth then. She told him that she was back in the Lai Organization.

Amara was relieved to tell someone, but she always figured Hiei'd find out first. It amazed her that he still didn't know. After all, she could heal her wounds, but she couldn't always stop one from scaring. Hiei knew every inch of her body and never once asked why she had a new scar. Amara guessed that he figured he'd caused them.

While he could be gentle, Hiei was usually a very rough lover. Amara liked it that way, and she did have a few scars from their times together, but it still confused her as to why he hadn't figured it out. She didn't care, she'd made up her mind to tell him when she got her next Mission Statement.

Night fell early on the suburban home as Amara was preparing dinner. Kurama was supposed to stop by with Yusuke and Keiko. Amara glanced outside at the darkness, one of the shadows seemingly thicker than the rest. She walked cautiously to the window. She saw the shadow move, darting from tree to tree. It seemed there was a stranger in her yard. Amara opened her window to let the shadowed stranger in.

She turned her back and walked into her kitchen to continue cooking the meal. The stranger walked up to her and said, "There's a new threat in town."

Amara looked at the boy standing before her. 'He must be a newbie,' she thought. 'They're getting so much younger, he must only be thirteen...' Amara caught herself. 'What am I thinking? I'm only a few moths older than seventeen, and I graduated at fourteen. However, handing out the Mission Statements can be done while you're still training. There's no guarantee he's graduated yet. Either way I'm thinking like I'm in my mid thirties.' "How old are you," she asked.

He looked at her. She stared into his eyes and instantly knew he'd graduated. His eyes held the look of someone who'd taken a life, nobody, unless they'd graduated, was allowed to stay in Lai if they killed someone. His voice was warm though, meaning he had to do it for his own safety. And it wasn't something he took lightly. "I just turned thirteen a few weeks ago."

Amara smiled. She'd been right. "So you graduated at twelve? Tell me, why are you handing out Mission Statements when your training was obviously meant for field work?"

His eyes left hers. "How could you tell?" He looked ashamed of himself, but Amara was determined to help him before he left.

"Your stealth technique is the same I learned. Mr. Winthrop was a great teacher. Listen, I know what it's like to regret your first kill. I'll take a wild guess and say that you had to do it in order for you or someone else to survive, but you still feel guiltier than hell. So you dropped out of the field after you froze up the first time and are now doomed to hand out Mission Statements." She placed a hand on his shoulder and he looked up. She was so warm and inviting that he felt completely at ease. She pulled him into a tight embrace. "Never regret saving someone's life, but never take life for granted. The fact that you care so much about something you had to do, proves what a good person you are. Lai needs more people like you in the field."

He nodded against her, willing the tears to hold back. "Thank you," he whispered.

She closed her eyes at the pain in his voice. She knew he'd go back and either resign or return to the field. Either was better than where he was at now. "You're welcome. Now, you may give me my Mission Statement."

He broke the embrace and handed her the envelope. He smiled as she slipped some food in his hand for his trip back. She was confident he'd have a decent life now, and not get as messed up as some members of Lai.

Amara opened the envelope and pulled out the sheet of paper. She unfolded it carefully and began to read. Her jaw dropped at what she saw and tears surfaced to her eyes. The doorbell rang and she shoved the paper back in the envelope then stuffed that in her jeans pocket. She wiped her eyes off and opened the door, greeting her friends with a smile.

Dinner was a success and Amara was back in the kitchen cleaning up while Yusuke and Keiko were being amazed by British television. She allowed the tears to pour from her eyes while the faucet ran. She never heard him enter.

Hands rested on her shoulders and she jumped. Turning around her eyes met Kurama's. She embraced her friend tightly and let the tears continue to pour. He looked confused but waited for her to explain. "I can't tell him Kurama," she whispered.

He pulled back and made her look at him. "What are you talking about Amara?"

She sighed and pulled the letter out of her jeans. "I got my Statement today. I was all set to tell Hiei I was still with Lai, but...he'd flip out if he knew about this next mission. Read what it says."

Kurama unfolded the paper and read it. His eyes widened and he whispered in awe, "Scythe has a new leader." Both knew Hiei wouldn't want her to fight something that drove her insane the last time she fought it. Amara couldn't tell Hiei what she was about to do, and she wasn't sure she could tell him afterwards. How would he take the news that she'd gone up against Scythe again?

Hiei walked up to the building, confidence in his step. The worlds would soon bow at his feet. After he took over Scythe he'd destroy Lai, then Spirit World would be open. With those two major powers out of business, the worlds would be his for the taking. Amara would be his queen and together they would rule.

But he couldn't let her know, not yet. Nobody but a few people knew that he was the new leader, and they worked hard to make sure Lai didn't find out. He wanted this to be a surprise for Amara. He would let her finally be the queen she really was. As long as his secret was safe until he chose to reveal it, his life would be perfect.

To Be Continued...

A/N- So, Hiei is the new leader of Scythe, and Amara has re-joined Lai. She hasn't told Hiei about it and he certainly hasn't told her about his joining Scythe. I wonder what's about to happen? So that's the very first installment of the sequel to Enter Ceridwen. Tell me how you guys like Enter Amara: Hiei's Neurosis, so far!
