The door burst open with such force that the glass panes on either side of it shattered. The wind wrapped itself around Ceridwen's legs trying to force her back. It pulled at her soaked wrap around skirt, letting it billow out around her legs. The rain hit her bare calves and she took a step into the abandoned corridor.

Her bare feet slapped against the cold stone floor with each step. She was listening hard, for any sound within the house. On her left was a mirror. She glanced at her reflection. Her hair was dripping wet, and framing her face, sticking to her cheeks. Her dark eye makeup was running making her pale skin look dead.

In the middle of the hall she paused. Ceridwen barely noticed the small pool of water surrounding her now. She felt his presence. He was dying now, she had to find him before it was too late. Ceridwen took off, deeper into the house. She followed his essence and finally came to double doors at the end of the hall. They opened for her immediately, sensing her fury and not wanting to be caught in its path.

He lay on the floor before her. Ceridwen rushed to his side and gently picked up his head, resting it in her lap. Blood was streaming from his temple and his eyes were in pain. In a hushed voice she whispered, "Who has done this to you my love? Who has betrayed you?"

He groaned aloud and whispered her name as if hoping it were his salvation. "Ceridwen," his voice barely audible. "They came and tried to kill him, they wouldn't listen that I hadn't been with him willingly. She forced me with her spell, made me work for him. You do believe me?"

She smiled. "You forget my powers Bane. Of course I believe you. Now tell me, who are they?"

"The ones, who...? It was the Perils. They thought I worked with Scythe. But we both know that she had me under her spell. I had no will of my own."

Ceridwen held a finger to her lips. "Shhh now Bane. Listen to me. We must get you to a hospital to heal the injuries."

"Ceri, couldn't you...?"

"No. I have not the strength for that. I used most of my energy trying to find you. If I try to heal you, you will die."

"I will die if you do nothing."

"Which is why we will go to the hospital. Can you stand?"

"I can barely breathe and talk, what do you think?"

"Fine. I will carry you then."

"Just, be gentle. I may have a concussion. Ceri, I must tell you this. I thank you for searching for me and for caring to help. You have been the best friend I have ever had and perhaps, after I am healed we..." Whatever Bane had wanted to do after he was healed, Ceridwen never knew. He stopped talking and his head lolled to one side.

"Bane," she said as she shook him gently. "Bane? Are you alright? Bane!" Ceridwen felt for his pulse but there wasn't one. No breath came from Bane. He was dead.

In shock, Ceridwen stood and let his body roll to the floor. She would kill the Perils, if it was her own demise, they would die for what they had done to Bane.
