Escape is Nowhere

Kurama broke his pencil. Everyone looked at the red
head. Kurama frowned he hadnºt meant to do that.
Usually he could control his power, but lately.....

»Here Shuuichi.¡ said the teacher handing Kurama a new
pencil.

»Thanks.¡ said Kurama nervously. What was going on?
Why was his power coming out like this?

The bell rang Kurama tried to get up, but couldnºt
make himself do it.

»Is something wrong Shuuichi?¡ asked the teacher.
Kurama shook his head and smiled.

»Nothingºs wrong. Sorry to trouble you.¡ he replied.
He was able to get up then. A bad omen. Maybe? he
thought. He had never believed in omenºs before, but
now was a good time as any to start. Right?

When Kurama got home his mother welcomed him with a
large hug.

»What took you so long Shuuichi?¡ she asked.

»Sorry Kaasan. The teacher stopped me after class to
congratulate me on my test.¡ lied Kurama.

»Oh okay. By the way some friends of yours are here.¡
she said pointing to the kitchen. Kurama apologized
again and head out for the kitchen guessing who these
friends were. Sure enough when he got to the kitchen
there were Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Hiei sitting at the
table.

»Oi Kurama. What took you so long?¡ asked Yusuke.

»Some of us have school Yusuke.¡ Kurama replied. »And
Iºm Shuuichi here.¡

»Oh right, sorry.¡ apologized Yusuke.

»Thatºs all right¡ said Kurama sitting down. »So, why
are you here?¡

»New mission.¡ said Kuwabara. Kurama looked at Hiei.

He remained silent. Everyone was used to that.

»Itºs in the Makai. A really small one. Seems that a
Youkai from the spirit world escaped and fled there.¡
Kurama nodded just a normal mission except that the
demon that they would be chasing would be in the demon
world instead of the ningenkai a.k.a. the human world.

»When do we leave?¡ he asked.

»Right now.¡ said Yusuke. Then when he saw Kurama
frowned he added. »Koenma has come up with a camping
trip scheme so your mother wonºt worry.¡ Kurama smiled
just as his mother entered the room.

»Kasaan. Yusuke just invited me to go on a camping
trip with him.¡

»Oh thatºs great Shuuichi. Have a good time.¡

A day later.....

»Why is it taking so long to find this freaking idiotic
demon?¡ asked Yusuke. »I mean it would have been
better if Hiei could have found him with his eye.¡

»I couldnºt find him Yusuke. He has some sort of
barrier that wonºt let my Jagon see him.¡ Hiei said
through gritted teeth. Yusuke shrugged and ran to
catch up with Kurama to tell him to slow down for the
third time.

»Iºm sorry Yusuke. I didnºt know I was going so
fast.¡ said Kurama. Yusuke looked at his friend and
decided something was going on with Kurama.

»Hey, whatºs up?¡ he asked. Kurama remained silent.
Yusuke shrugged as they stopped to wait for Kuwabara
and Hiei who were in yet another fight.

After a few hours they decided to camp. They knew it
wasnºt smart to travel in the demon world after dark.
Especially since two of them happened to be heirs' of
two of the most powerful demon leaders.

Kurama sat in silence as Hiei and Kuwabara bickered
on about who would win in a battle of swords.

»I could beat you to a pulp shrimp.¡ said Kuwabara.

»You couldnºt beat a fly moron.¡ Hiei retorted.

»What did you say?¡ asked Kuwabara angrily.

»Are you deaf? I said that you couldnºt beat a fly
moron.¡

»Oh thatºs it! Come here ya little punk!¡

»Iºm so scared. The big oaf is going on a rampage.¡

»Hey cut it out you two.¡ said Yusuke. »Have you
noticed that Kurama isnºt himself right now?¡ Kuwabara
looked up at Kurama. Kurama looked the same as ever.
Unbearably gorgeous, smelling of sweet roses, but on
closer examination he realized that he was defiantly
not himself. He was staring at the ground not noticing
anyone around him and Kurama was usually so
perspective.

»Youºre right Urameshi! We have to go see whatºs
wrong.¡ said Kuwabara. »And I the great Kazuma
Kuwabara will help any friend in need!¡ He got up to
leave, but as he was about to take a step toward
Kurama Hiei tripped him.

»Hey! What was that for shrimp?¡ yelled Kuwabara.

»Itºs Kuramaºs problem he has to deal with it
himself. If he needs help heºll ask for it.¡

That night Kurama curled up in his sleeping bag. What
was wrong with him? He hadnºt not been able to control
his power for a long, long time. Well, no time to
worry about it now. Wait until the mission is over. he
told himself.

»Man I swear weºve traveled clear across the Makai by
now.¡ said Kuwabara. Hiei snorted.

»We would have, but one of us travels way to slow.¡
Hiei replied. Kuwabara flinched and was about to tell
Hiei off when Kurama spoke for the first time since
they got into the demon world.

»Weºre near Yomiºs domain.¡ he said. »Itºs getting
late we could stay there for the night.¡ Yusuke looked
around and realized that Kurama was right they were
just on the outskirts of his domain.

»Yomi....isnºt he the guy who wanted Kurama as his
heir?¡ asked Kuwabara. Kurama nodded.

»Iºm sure heºd welcome us.¡

»Whoa! This city is huge!¡ Kuwabara said as they got
into Yomi's city. Kurama nearly laughed at
Kuwabaraºs naive knowledge of the demon
world.

They walked up to the palace and a guard stopped
them.

»Lord Yomi is busy and canºt see anyone.¡ Kurama
smiled sweetly making the guard nearly melt in his
shoes.

»Can you tell him Kurama is here?¡ asked Kurama.

»Y...yes...s...sir...¡ the guard squeaked. The guard
ran off stumbling over himself to get Yomi. Yusuke
looked at Kurama amazed.

»How the hell do you do that?¡ he asked. Kurama just
smiled his sweet smile which made Yusuke stop asking
and look down at his feet, blushing.

Yomi sighed. Paper work is boring why do I have to do
it? he asked. Thatºs when a guard came bursting in.
Yomi looked at him in disgust. I really need new
guards....unless....

»Sir! A human says to tell you that Kurama is here.¡
said the guard straightening up. I knew it. thought
Yomi. Kurama can melt anyone.

»Tell him to come in.¡

»There are others with him.¡ said the guard. I should
have known. Kurama would never come here to just visit
me. Even if I did....

»Kurama is to come in here the others can wait in the
dinning hall.¡ Yomi told him.

»Sir!¡ He saluted and left.

A few minutes later Kurama came into his office. Yomi
smiled it had been awhile since he had seen Kurama.

»What can I do for you Kurama?¡ asked Yomi. Kurama
did not salute or bow like most would he just stood
there staring into Yomiºs face.

»We need a place to stay and....information.¡ said
Kurama.

»Ah, of course. What sort of information?¡

»We are chasing a demon that escaped from the spirit
world. However, we canºt find him.¡

»Hm....interesting....what sort of demon?¡

»An A class. Not very smart.¡

»There are a lot of demons like that. I did hear of
one up bye the mountains near here.¡

»Thank you, Yomi.¡

The battle had started. Yomiºs information had been
correct. The demon had been in the mountains. When
they had found him; he had tried to run away. However,
Hiei blocked his route. Everyone else surrounded him.

»Ha, ha, ha. I the great Kazuma Kuwabara am now
going to destroy this criminal.¡ yelled Kuwabara.
Everyoneºs sweat dropped.

Unfortunately, Kurama was still having problems
keeping his power in check. So, when the demon
attacked him the tree next to him grew tall and became
a monster. A little like his death tree except this
one only had one mouth that was very huge. The demon
was devoured in seconds.

Yusuke looked at Kurama worried. Kurama was the last
person he thought would loose control. Then he saw his
friend collapse in pain.

Kurama felt the pain. It started in his head and then
went like lightning through the rest of his body. He
didnºt wan to worry his comrades, but everything was
growing dark and he couldnºt hold out much longer. He
felt himself fall and then black.

»Kurama!¡ yelled Yusuke as he saw his friend fall. He
ran up to him and knelt down next to him.
»Kurama....what happened?¡ he asked no one. Kuwabara
lifted him on his back.

»Urameshi, we need to get him to Genkaiºs.¡

»How are we supposed to do that?¡ asked Hiei
irritated. Yusuke looked down at his feet. There was
no way to get Kurama there in time. Then something
nudged him. Yusuke looked behind him and smiled at the
large blue bird.

»Hey, Puu...¡ Yusukeºs head snapped up and he grabbed
Kurama from Kuwabara.

»Urameshi! Wha...?¡ asked Kuwabara

»This may be our only chance.¡ said Yusuke putting
Kurama onto Puu. »Maybe we can fly back in time.¡
Yusuke jumped on with Kuwabara following. Hiei stayed.

»Iºll make the trip by foot.¡ he said. Yusuke nodded
and Puu took off.

The air rushed past them as they went through the
portal to the human world. Kurama hadnºt changed. He
hadnºt gotten worse or better. Yusuke looked down at
his friend. They left the portal and crashed into
Genkaiºs temple.

Yukina and Genkai ran out to see what was wrong.

»Yukina!¡ yelled Yusuke. »You have to help Kurama.¡
Yukina looked down at Kurama and instantly signaled
Yusuke to follow her.

They laid Kurama down on a mattress. Yukina began to
try and heal him.

A few hours later Yukina came out of the room where
Kurama was. Yusuke stood up and did a questioning
glance towards Yukina.

»Thereºs nothing I can do.¡ she told him. Yusukeºs
stomach dropped. »Because....well, itºs hard to
explain. You need to come and look at him.¡ Yukina led
them to the room. They looked down at a Kurama
with...ears?

»I canºt help him because all thatºs happening is
heºs transforming.¡ explained Yukina. Genkai looked
down at the red head who was now sweating all over.

»However,¡ said Genkai suddenly. »It must be an
outside force that is making him transform. Thatºs why
he is in so much pain.¡
»That would.... make sense.¡ said a soft pained
voice. Yusuke heaved a sigh of relief. Kurama was
awake.

Another spark of pain went through Kuramaºs body.
»Whoever.... it is making me transform.... must be
incredibly strong.¡ he said quietly.

»Then weºve got to find out who it is.¡ said Yusuke
punching the air.

»That...is easier said then done.¡ Kurama told them.
»There are many demons that hold grudges....against
me.¡ Another wave of pain shot through his body and
some of the strands of red hair began to go silver.

Kurama jerked. »Youºll have.... a tough time finding
out who it is.¡ he said panting.
