We had fallen before. Once in death, once afterward in life. We are together, yet separate. We cannot fly together. We cannot synchronize. We are too alike, and yet too different. We are broken, together and apart.

He was our other half, beautiful in his broken way, unable to fly without aid. A bird with one wing, like us. We loved him. We needed him, both of us.

Then the solution came along, wrapped in a dark package. He was so alone, so sad . . .

We needed him. We loved him. And he came to love and need us, too.

But a three-winged bird cannot fly any more than a one-winged bird can. One of us had to go. A sacrifice had to be made. There could only be two, and Hiei had to be one of them. We loved him, after all.

I was that sacrifice.

I fall into darkness. Naked. Cold. Alone.

With only memories as company.

We need him.

::Yes.::

We love him.

::Yes.::

He can help us fly.

::Yes.::

He is our other half. Our other wing.

::Yes . . . But who ever heard of a bird with three wings . . .?::

There was no other way. I took the fall. The dark one cried as I fell away from them. He wanted this third wing, even if it meant that we couldn't fly.

But it was too late. I was gone. Youko remained.

I had to die for 'us'.

Please . . . don't forget 'me'.

A one-winged bird cannot fly. It can only fall, without its other wing. I am that bird, and I fall forever.
