Chapter 1: Clowns

"`Can you see me now?

Can you see me now?'"

A silhouetted figure watched the girl from above on a tree limb.

"`All this weeping in the air

Who can tell where it will fall?

Through floating forests in the air

`Cross the rolling open sea'"

He traveled so far just to see her. She meant everything to him. She was all he had left. Yet, she didn't know this, she didn't know him.

"`Blow a kiss, I run through air

Leave the past, find nowhere'"

She didn't remember her past so she didn't know who he was. He wanted to tell her who he was, but he couldn't break a bargain.

"`Floating forests in the air

Clowns all around you'"

No one knew of his predicament. They didn't ask, so he didn't tell. He needed her to know, but if he told there would be much suffering, on his part, and hers.

"`Clowns only let you know

Where you let your senses go

Clowns all around you

It's a cross I need to bear'"

He had to live with it, though. This is what he had agreed to and he had to keep his end of the deal. He would have given his life to tell her, but that wasn't an option.

"`All this black and cruel despair

This is an emergency

Don't you hide your eyes from me

Open them and see me now'"

He followed her on her way. Wherever she went he would be there, not always physically but also mentally. If she would die then he would die, and that was that. He wouldn't be able to live without her.

"`Can you see me now?

Can you see me now?'"

She didn't know that he was there, or that he even existed, but she felt safe when, unbeknownst to her, he was there.

"`Can you see?

Can you see?'"

But sadly, he didn't know if he would ever be able to tell her the truth. He wished that life could be the way it was, but it was hopeless. That is, unless he could turn back time.

"`See me here in the air

Not holding onto anywhere

But holding on so beware

I have secrets I won't share'"

Too bad he couldn't. There wasn't a known object, artifact or person that could give him what he wanted.

"`See here pushing you

If I then deny I do

Contemplate or wish away

If I ask you not to stay'"

He watched her whenever he had the chance. He came to her rescue whenever her aura spiked up with fear. She never knew what saved her; she just knew it had.

"`Clowns that only let you know

Where you let your senses go

Clowns all around you

It's a cross I need to bear.'"

She felt misplaced. She felt as if she didn't belong. She didn't quite fit in. She could feel people's feelings. She thought she was going crazy.

"`All this black and cruel despair

This is an emergency'"

He watched as she walked. A man attempted to kidnap her; bad choice. She screamed and fought and the he came down. He saved her from certain death. She turned to thank him, but he was gone………

"`Don't you hide your eyes from me

Open them and see me now'"
