The door opened. The twelve-year-old Enishi walked in. Her waist-length grass green hair was pulled into two low braids. Her golden eyes searched the room for her partner. She finally spotted the red head and made her way to the back of the room at the patch of flowers he was working on. She sat down and smiled. “Hi Kurama-san.”
Kurama looked up from the rose bush. “Afternoon Enishi-san, I'm glad that you decided to grace us with your presence.” He teased with a smile.
She returned the smile. “Only extreme emergencies would take me away from here. I love the outdoors and plants. It's the only way for me to take a break from everything. I'm not mad at my mom anymore either.” She picked up the water pot and poured the water over small pansies.
“Glad to hear it.”
“We've been doing this class for nearly two years, you're a closer friend than the ones that I've known my entire life,” she looked to the side and mumbled, “if you want to call them friends. I mean, you know me better than even my boyfriend.”
“How old are you?”
“Twelve, why?
Kurama shook his head. “Already running around with boyfriends.”
“Hey!”
He took some dirt and dropped it on her head. “Happy birthday.”
She shook off the dirt and glared. “But my birthday's not until February.”
“I won't be here after the spring, remember?”
Her eyes took a sad look. “That's right, what college are you going to anyways?” She patted some fertilizer around the tulips.
“I'm headed to the other side of the island.”
“I see what you're trying to do.”
He tilted his head to the side. “Oh? And what's that?”
“You're trying to get as far away from me as possible!”
“That's an impossible task, Enishi.”
Enishi smiled. “Got that right!” She puffed her chest out proudly and put her hands on her hips.
“Enishi-san,”
She stopped her proud stance and turned to Kurama. “What is it?”
“I want you to make me a promise,”
“What?”
“Make sure that you finish school while I'm gone.”
“Why? It's not going to make any difference where I'm going once I reach adult age.”
“That's not the point, you may need to be here for cases of hiding. An education will help with that. I don't even mean college, just get through high school.”
“Maybe I should focus on Jr. High first, then my high school entrance exams.”
He smiled. “Does this mean that it's a promise?”
“Only if you remember to write me every Sunday, call me every Friday, and get on the instant messenger every Saturday.”
“Make the instant messenger on Tuesdays and you've got a deal.”
She held out her hand. “You've got yourself a deal Kurama-san.” he took the hand and she shook it.

Enishi, now eighteen, sat on a bench in the park with her eyes filled with tears. The rain poured down, soaking her hair and plastering it to her face and back. She held her knees close to her chest and stared at the puddle forming in front of her. Why? I'm a bit hard, but why did he think that I'd do that? This thought ran through her head along with thoughts of murder.
She felt the rain stop hitting her, but it was still falling around her. She looked up to see an umbrella being held by a friend that she hadn't seen since seventh grade. “Kur-rama-san?” she stammered.
Kurama smiled and nodded. “What're you doing in the pouring rain Enishi? You'll catch cold.”
“I'm youkai, I don't catch cold.” She put her head in her knees. “My rep says a few anger issues, not that I give my body away!” She cried into her knees. “He nearly did it! Nearly got in! Nearly took me!”
Kurama sensed her pain. “Would you like me to walk you home?” She shook her head. “Would you like to come to my place? You can't stay here all night.” He held out his hand.
She looked up to his outstretched hand. “I-if you insist.” She took his hand and stood up. She stepped over the puddle and followed Kurama from the park. “I thought you didn't live in this area any more.”
“I just moved back here because a job opportunity offered to me.” They reached an apartment building; he fished out a key from his pocket. “Here we go.” He unlocked the door and let Enishi in. “It's not much, but it's home.” He turned around to see her standing in the doorway dripping wet. “Would you like to take a shower?”
“Sure, but I don't have any dry clothes.”
“I'll see what I can dig up. The bathroom is at the end of the hall, throw your wet clothes in the hall, I'll hang them to dry.” He watched her scurry down the hall. A few minuets after she went in, the door opened back up and her wet clothes slopped out followed the door slamming.
He smiled as he gathered up the wet clothing. He set them in the sink while he strung a clothesline across the kitchen. He pulled out a few pots and set them under the clothes after he hung them up. Then he pulled out a kettle, filled it with water, and placed it on the stove to make some tea. He sat at the table and started reading some more of his book.
---------
Enishi stood in the shower letting the warm water wash over her, cleanse her. The events of tonight were enough to drive anyone crazy. If Kurama hadn't shown up, she probably would have seen red and went on a rampage. She pushed the water through her hair to wash his stench out of it. The rain pulled out most of the beer, but this still felt so much nicer than the cold rain. She turned off the water and reached out for a towel for her hair. When she stepped out of the stall with a towel around her body. Sitting on the floor by the door was a large shirt and skirt. She smiled and pulled on the clothes.
The door opened and she walked out with the towel still sitting on her head. She walked into the kitchen where Kurama was sipping this tea. “Thank you for this, but…how did you get a skirt?”
Kurama set his cup down and got Enishi her own cup. “My friends decided to be funny and gave it to me when I moved back here.”
“Oh.” Enishi sipped at the tea. “This is really good.”
“Thank you, only the best for you.” She blushed and put her nose into the cup. “Would you mind telling me what happened? If you're ready of course.”
She heaved a sigh. “Y-yeah, I need to tell someone anyways.
