Chapter 13
In Your Eyes
She stood up and faced them all. Her eyes kept changing back from blue to red.
“Arc, what happened to you”, Kuwabara asked as he looked at her.
She stood there, in a long blue silk dress, that had slits up the sides that went straight up to her thighs, with a pair of blue silk pants underneath it. A red medallion was tied around her neck with a black leather string.
“I guess you could say, I came to my senses”, she said while grinning.
“But...”, he was at a lost for words.
“Come on now, I though you liked to fight. Well, do you? Or are you just going to stand there, and let me kick your ass?”
Kuwabara didn't say anything as she disappeared, and than reappeared behind him. She brought down the dagger of ice, and stabbed him in the arm. He screamed, and tried to get away from her, but she grabbed him by the shoulder, and whispered something in his ear. His eyes shot open with shock, and he stumbled to the floor when she let go.
Ruri watched on in interest as she followed her new pet's every move. A smile curled on her lips, when she saw Kuwabara fall to the ground and stay there.
“KUWABARA”, Yusuke screamed.
Arc turned towards the other three men chained to the walls, and yelled, “Who's next?”
They all stared in wonder at her.
Next, was Yusuke. When he fell to the ground, he tried to run towards Ruri, but Arc stopped him.
She sent a wall of fire around Ruri, that rose high into the air, as Yusuke tried to jump over it.
“It's no use, Yusuke. You must fight me, or die”, Arc said to him as he shook with anger.
He looked over towards a dark walkway where two demons had dragged Kuwabara's body too.
He looked back up at Arc and couldn't believe that she had just killed his best friend, one of her own friends. But, what he saw made him even more confused. She stood there with a look that held nothing more than amusement. But, her eyes, they pleaded at him.
'What are you up to Arc', he thought.
“Come on Detective, I haven't got all day.”
Yusuke took one final look at her, and than got in the arena with her. She smiled at him and he smiled right back.
'I get it', he thought.
“You ready to go down”, he asked.
The fire around Ruri died down as Arc laughed and charged at him.
Hiei watched them fight, and couldn't help but feel that something was off about her. Besides the fact that she was fighting against them. She seemed like she was... playing with them.
Hiei's eyes returned to the fight as he saw Yusuke fall, holding onto the side of his thigh where blood gushed out.
She cut him a few more times, but no where vital. Hiei noted this, and than watched intently as Yusuke didn't even bother to try and fight back.
'Is it because he doesn't want to hurt her? Or because he's...'
Yusuke shouted shot gun, and a beam of blue light shot out of his finger and pierced Arc in the stomach. But, just as it made contact with her, she disappeared.
She reappeared behind Yusuke, without even a scratch on her, and no hole in her stomach. She took her hand and grabbed the back of Yusuke's neck, lifting him up in the air.
A sudden blue light outlined his body, and her's. Yusuke's eyes grew white, and his body shook uncontrollably. When the light faded away, she threw his body off to the side. He lay in the grass, completely unmoving.
He was paralyzed. But, to Ruri and the others, he looked dead, as his lips turned purple, and his skin turned white.
The same demons that had taken Kuwabara's body away, now came for Yusuke's.
Arc turned to Ruri and asked, “Do you want me to kill this one, or would you like too?”
Ruri looked over at the last two of the gang that were alive, or so to speak, and pondered.
She looked back at Arc and said, “You may.”
Kurama dropped down and landed on his feet. He walked towards Arc and got in the arena.
He turned towards Ruri and asked, “What have you done to her?”
“Nothing that she didn't choose to become”, she answered.
Hiei looked on and tried again to get out of his restrains, but they shocked him once again, and he stopped struggling.
'Dammit', he thought.
'Arc, what's happened to you?'
Hiei hung his head low as the fight began.
“So, Kurama. What were you too her? A friend, partner, or perhaps... lover”, she taunted him.
Kurama blocked all of her attacks, but made no move to attack her. He was quiet, and distant as he tried to ignore her questions. His face had stayed calm, and neutral during their fight, until she had said that last word.
His eyes widened slightly as he let himself get distracted by his thoughts. A sudden kick to his stomach brought him back to reality.
“So... you two were lovers than, weren't you”, she asked.
“What's done is done”, he answered her.
Arc stopped for a moment, as fog began to grow around them. Arc stayed where she was, as well as did Kurama.
“You know what I am doing, right”, she asked him in a whisper, as she began to fight him again.
“Yes. You seem to have been planning this for quite some time than”, he answered her.
“Perhaps, but, I can't do it alone. The only way we can do this is by surprise, which is the only reason why I am doing this. I would never hurt any of you, you know that, right?”
“I know. Don't worry. It will work out, it has too.”
“Thanks Kurama”, she said as they exchanged smiles.
The fog began to depart, and Ruri looked on in anticipation to see who won. When the fog finally cleared, she smiled wickedly.
Kurama lay on the arena floor, with blood staining his shirt. Arc kicked his body to the side, and he fell onto the ground.
“For you, My Lady Ruri”, Arc said as she bowed lowly.
'God, this is disgusting! But, I need her to trust me. Anything to save Hiei... and the others.'
Ruri thanked her, and told her to continue. Hiei's chains let him lose and he fell to the ground, landing on his feet. He was quiet, and calm as he walked slowly towards Arc and the arena.
He faced her with a deadly, cold look in his eyes.
“I will not forgive you for your deceit”, he said, without taking his eyes off of her.
'Hiei, you're supposed to play along! Don't screw up things now!'
Arc took one look into his eyes, and hoped that he wasn't serious. But, something about those eyes told her that he wasn't playing.
