Chapter One: A New Life Style

---------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------

Name: Runi Otaki

Type: Half fox demon, half fire demon.

Looks: Raven black hair with silver tips, deep blue-gray eyes.

Demon form: Silver hair with red tips, deep red eyes, silver fox ears, silver fox tail.

Attitude: Short temper, short attention span, stubborn, depressed, despises the world, both to be exact, deadly.

Job(s): Assassin for hire, thief for hire.

---------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------

"The description almost `perfectly' fits this girl, considering she's so young," The tall redhead muttered.

"Do you really think Koenma would really give us such an easy job?" The shorter one replied.

"Good point," The redhead said with a sigh.

---------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------

This will be a little tough, Runi thought as she looked at her target. Theft and an assassin for hire were not going to pay the rent quick enough. She needed a BIG hit. Maybe I could just charge more…oh well. Better get this done NOW.

She moved quickly dodging the glances of the guards. Silently, she slipped passed the security to the boss's room.

Bingo. She moved behind him, assuming he hadn't seen her. Time for you to die, just like you did to her. Slowly and silently, she formed a ball of fire in her hand.

"Burn, baby, burn," were the only words he heard her say before she burnt him to a crisp, leaving the smallest of ashes to flow with the wind.

---------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------

Carefully examining the ashes, Kurama says, "I guess we just missed her. The ashes would have blended with the floor if the job had been done very long ago."

"We must move quickly, to catch her before she hits her next target," Hiei said, already moving towards the exit.

"Fine, let's go." They had to move quickly and quietly to follow her without being seen. Being half fox demon, her senses were very sharp. She could detect a demon in, at most, a two-mile radius. Which is why they soon lost track of her.

"She's still here, I can senses her presence," Hiei said, glancing around franticly. He couldn't pin point her location, but could follow her auroras trail.

"What do you want and why are you following me?" A voice came from all directions.

"We won't have to hurt you if you come quietly," Kurama said, still looking for the voice. Runi dropped from the branch she was perched on, and landed softly in front of the two boys.

"WHAT do you want?" She growled, softly, slowly inching closer to them, causing Kurama to backup.

Hiei whipped out his sword, placing it to her throat in one swift movement. "You'll come with us or we'll kill you and take your head instead." He threatened.

"Tell me what you want from me and I'll think about it," she responded lazily. Pushing the sword away from her throat, she sat down, staring at them, waiting for an answer. "Well?"

Hiei, I think we should tell her that Koenma is arresting her on three hundred and seventy two accounts of murder and four hundred and thirty four accounts of theft. It would probably be best.

Hn. Very unlikely, Fox. She wouldn't come with us anyway. She has no reason.

"I'm waiting," she stated, interrupting their thoughts.

Kurama let out a long sigh. "You're under arrest."

"On what charges?" she said calmly.

"Three hundred and seventy two accounts of murder and four hundred and thirty four accounts of theft," nervousness sounded in his voice.

"Hm…guess it kinda adds up after a while, huh?" she sounded bored. "Fine, take me to Koenma, he can't do anything worse than he already has." She stood quickly and approached the boys. Hiei, still being unsure about her actions, studied her movements quietly, watching for any sorts of trickery.

I still don't trust her, Fox.

Fine, then. Don't trust her and keep a steady watch over her to avoid any complications.

Kurama lead the way with Runi following close behind and Hiei bringing up the rear. As far a Hiei could tell, she wasn't carrying any weapons. Considering she was an assassin, this was very odd.

If you're an assassin, why do you not carry any weapons?

There is no need to carry weapons when you yourself are a weapon on its own.

Hn. Fool. You never know when you'll be too weak to fight using your abilities.

That's why I always carry double scythes, hidden in my clothes, baka oni.

Hn. You're one to talk.

Whipping around to face Hiei, she yelled, "WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSE TO MEAN?!?!"

He merely stared at her, refusing to answer. Kurama shook his head knowing Hiei had successfully pissed this young demon off.

Kurama grabbed Runi by the arm, muttering "We don't have time for this." And continued on his way. Runi followed silently, knowing Hiei was satisfied.

Damn him, she thought angrily, if he wouldn't have insulted me like that then we wouldn't be in this mess.

Hn. You started it.

WHAT?!?

You called me a `baka oni.' I merely said that you were one to talk.

Do you want to die?

You couldn't kill me I you tried.

Wanna bet on that?

How much?

Thirteen thousand.

Fine. If you win…

This is where I'm a bitch and end the story. ^.^ Mean yes, but it's late and I'm very, VERY tired. (Sleepy, sleepy, sleepy…) Anyway, yeah. That's the first chapter, hope you liked it. It kind jumped right into the story, I know, but I'll explain thing later in the next few chapters. Well, till next time!
