Freakish Life

IMPORTANT NOTICE: I am trying desperately not to make my characters Mary-Sueish. I hate them, you hate them, we all hate them, but it's easy to make characters that way when you're typing at 11:00 p.m. and are half asleep so please bear with me.

Rea sighed as she pulled the blankets around her thin frame. Down stairs she could hear her step sister Samarra and her step mother laughing. Rea's father had married Samarra's mother after her own died. Soon after though her father also past away, leaving Rea alone with them. Rea's father always favored her to Samarra because she was his real daughter. Don't get me wrong he never mistreated Samarra or her mother. In fact he gave them pretty much whatever they wanted.

 

Rea shivered, another fever was rearing its ugly head. Ever since her father had passed away Rea had a chain of mysterious illnesses. `They're probably poisoning my food,' she thought. Rea struggled to get up from her “bed” which was nothing more than some rags in a walk in closet. Her old room had been transformed into a workroom for her step mother. Walking down the hall to the medicine cabinet Rea passed Samarra's room. It had pink walls with the latest boy idol posters; her bed was pink with plush pink comforter and pillows. (A/N: I seriously can't stand pink. The thought of this room make me shudder.)

 

Rea had almost made it to the medicine cabinet downstairs when explosion rocked the house. She could hear her sister's preppy screams as the wall caved in to reveal a disgusting creature with horns on its head. “Give me the girl,” it said as it slinked forward. Rea's stepmother immediately grabbed Samarra.

“You can have the other girl. Just take her and leave,” she said pointing to you. The creature looked at Raya with a stupid look on its face. “Must bring girl to master,” it said angrily.

 

Then, in a swift movement, the creature knocked Rea's stepmother into the adjacent wall. Samarra's screams brought Rea back to reality. Rea dashed forward grabbing Samarra's arm just as the creatures clawed hand came down. Rea dashed through the room still yanking on Samarra's arm. Rea had almost made it out the front door when the creature attacked causing the front wall of the house to give way and Rea and Samarra to go tumbling into the dirt. The pain in Rea's lungs from her illness made it hard to breathe and with the fall she wasn't feeling up to running. Rea looked up to see four boys fighting the creature. Not far away was Samarra, unconscious. The last thing Rea remembered was the beast cry out in pain and being lifted in someone's arms. Before she passed out Rea caught a glimpse of crimson eyes.
