Friends … or More?
DG32173
This is a story I came up with while listening to John Michael Montgomery's CD, Greatest Hits. I was listening to the song "Friends". It's a good song. I like it. It's really cool. I suggest you listen to it. It also has his hit songs, "Sold", "Be My Baby Tonight", and "Life's A Dance", on the CD.
Kurama: are you going to make this another reader/somebody?
DG: actually, no. I'm going to use my own characters, and some characters others might give me, if they choose to. This way, I can post it on FF.net and MM.org *damns the sites to the seventh hell and beyond* and not worry about it possibly coming down. If you want to give me a character, e-mail me. Remember to leave your e-mail, as I will reply and tell you what criteria I require to include your character. If you've already e-mailed me a character for "Party at DG's!", [which was put up on mm.org and they took down] then if you DON'T want me to include that character, then e-mail me as soon as you read this part of the story. Well, that's all for now, ja ne!

{Words} = telepathy
"Words" = speech
`Words' = thought
***words*** = scene change
~~~words~~~ = POV change
(`Words') = Kurama talking to Youko. [Will appear in later chapters]
(*Words*) = Youko talking to Kurama. [Will appear in later chapters]
A/N 2:
The prologue takes place a few days before Youko dies. This is about a demoness who was Youko's mate, before he died. The story will explain itself.
A/N 3:
This is what Akita looks like in demon form. I will put her human form description up when we get to that point.
Height: 4'3" [shorter than Hiei, I know. Sad world we live in now.]
Hair: past her butt, mostly black with a thin silver stripe down the right side
Age: about 30 years younger than Youko, about 666-673 years. She lost track at about 600 years. [Sad, I know. Depressing to forget your own age. But when you reach that age, how can you remember your own birthday, if it's not celebrated much.]
Eye color: Silver
Demon type: half kitsune, half cat [odd pairing, no?]
Ears: cat-like, silver with black tips
Tail: bushy, fox-like, also silver with black tip
Spirit form: either a 3' at shoulder silver fox with black-tipped ears and tail with sky-blue eyes OR a large [also 3' at shoulder] black cat with silver-tipped ears and tail also with sky-blue eyes
That's about all I can come up with, right now. If you want more info, e-mail me at smccray@hanginout.zzn.net OR, my newest e-mail, smccray2006@yahoo.com. Oh, and 2006 is my grad year! I'm a JUNIOR in high school! YAY!
A/N 4:
Akita has a twin sister, Lira, who looks similar to Akita, except she has charcoal black ears and two black tails, one cat and one fox. And she has blue eyes. She also can choose between two spirit forms, the same two as her twin. But her fox form is black with silver-tipped ears and tail and her cat-form is silver with black-tipped ears and tail. In other words, Lira's spirit forms have exactly opposite coloring as her twin's. Lira dies about three days after her sister and Youko do.
I think that about sums it up. Ja ne till end of story!
Prologue
Akita Lomess opens her silver eyes when she heard her name being called. She is up in a tall tree.
"Kit? Hey, Kit! Where are you?" she hears Youko calling.
She looks down. Youko is standing under the tree she is in, looking around. "Up here, Youko," she says, closing her eyes.
"What are you doing up there?" he calls up to her. He jumps up to the branch beneath her.
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm trying to sleep," she says grumpily, eyes still closed. "In case you haven't noticed, I haven't been getting much sleep at night because of the raids. Just like you and Koronue haven't either."
Youko smirks. "You shouldn't sleep in trees, you know?" he says.
"What could happen? I'm perfectly balanced on a wide branch. I won't fall unless either someone pushes me off, or there's an earthquake," she says. Then she feels herself being picked up. She opens her eyes, only to see Youko smirking golden ones. "What, may I ask, are you doing?" she asks.
"I'm taking you back to camp," he says, jumping out of the tree and carrying her back to camp.
"I came out here to get away from the noise of the camp," she says angrily.
"Temper, temper," he says, teasing her.
"Youko, if you don't put me back in that tree, I swear I will kill you!" she says, baring her fangs.
"And why would I put you back in the tree when we are already at camp?" he says.
She looks around and sighs. "Youko, why did you bring me back?" she asks, already calming down.
"To talk to you," he says, carrying her past the tents of the others of their clan.
"You could've talked to me at the tree," she says.
He smirks. "No, I couldn't have," he says. He carries her past her own tent.
"You couldn't have talked to me at my tent either, I suppose?" Kit says.
"Nope," he says. He carries her right into his tent.
"Youko, what do you want to talk about?" Kit asks, nervous.
"You'll see," he says, still smirking. He has already reached his room. He sits her down on his bed. She lies back on his comfy bed. He turns and closes his door. When he turns back, she has already fallen asleep in the comfort of his bed. He smiles softly. `I guess she's very tired. She should be,' he thinks. He lies down beside her and yawns. `I guess I'm tired, too,' he thinks as he, too, falls asleep.
***a few hours later***
Kit wakes up. She feels a strong arm around her waist. She slowly opens her eyes, to see a sea of silver hair. Then she realizes that it's actually the sleeping Youko. `Did I fall asleep? Must have. Oh well. I'm sure I don't want to know what he wanted to "talk" about,' she thinks.
Youko starts to stir. He opens his eyes, to see silver eyes looking at him. "Hey, Youko," Kit says.
He yawns. "I guess we fell asleep, ne?" he says.
"Yes," she says, and closes her eyes. "It was worth the sleep, though."
She feels his lips on hers, briefly. Her eyes snap open, to see his gold eyes in front of her face. "You looked so content," he says, smiling at the shock in her eyes.
"And?" she says, sensing that there was more to it than that.
He kisses her again. He pulls back after a minute. "And I love you," he says. And he smiles at her small gasp.
Then she smiles. "I've been waiting to hear you to say that," she says, snuggling closer to him. "I love you, too."
He tilts her face up and kisses her, longer then the past two kisses. He nibbles gently on her lower lip. She parts her lips, letting him in her mouth. He tastes her mouth. After about five minutes, he pulls back. She looks at him. "May I mark you?" he asks her. She smiles and nods, moving her long black and silver hair away from her neck. "It will hurt," he warns.
"I'm ready," she says.
He kisses her neck, finding the perfect spot. He licks a spot, letting her know where he will mark her. She stiffens, readying for the bite. He slowly sinks his fangs in her neck. She gasps softly, but holds steady. He withdraws his fangs from her neck and licks the sweet blood from the spot. He then smiles at her. "You are mine now," he says.
"I wanted it that way," she says. And she kisses him.
***two days later***
The whole camp found out about their pairing within twenty-four hours after he marked her, thanks to somebody's big mouth [cough-Koronue-cough]. Youko told Koronue after Koronue kept bugging him about what happened between him and Akita.
Akita had told her twin, Lira, what had happened, and Lira had said: "About time, dammit!" Akita laughed at her sister's words. Lira knew when to keep her mouth shut, though. But she knew that it would leek out somehow.
Akita, Lira, Koronue, and Youko are all out on a raid. Akita and Lira are using their feminine charm to beguile the male guards while Koronue and Youko sneak in.
"So, ladies, what are you doing tonight?" one of the guards asks.
Akita and Lira exchange a glance. "Nothing," Akita says, moving close enough for him to see part of her chest.
"Why might you ask?" Lira asks, moving close enough to set off the vines behind the guards. Lira and Akita can both control plants, like Youko, but Akita can also control fire and darkness and Lira can also control ice and water.
"Oh, just wondering if maybe you might want to meet us at the local bar once our shift is up?" says the guard.
"Maybe," Akita says. "What do you think, Lira?" she asks her twin.
"I … don't think we can make it," she replies.
"Why not?" another guard asks.
"Because you'll probably be a bit tied up," Akita says, moving the vines so that they wrap tightly around the guards. "Alright, Lira, ice the vines," she says, moving away from the group of struggling guards.
"Already done, Akita," Lira says, snapping her fingers.
"Now I know where I heard those names before!" says one of the younger guards. "They're from Youko and Koronue's crowd!"
"Baka!" says the lead guard. "Couldn't ya have told us sooner?!"
"Sorry boss!" the younger guard says.
"Later boys," Akita says, motioning to Youko and Koronue, who had appeared behind the guards a few minutes ago. "Ready, koi?" she asks as Youko slips his arm around her waist.
"Ready," he says, kissing her. Then he looks at the guards. "Should we leave them for the buzzards?" he says, mentioning the buzzard demons that are flying overhead.
"There are two in there that caught my interest," Lira says, glancing at the iced guards. "I could bring them, if that's alright."
"Bring them, let the buzzards have the rest," Youko says.
Lira de-iced the guards and grabbed two of the younger guards, including the one that recognized her and Akita's names. She re-iced the rest of the guards and smirked. "Later boys. If you survive, then you may be seeing these two again, but on our side," she says, smiling wickedly. "Let's go," she says to her friends and the two guards, who are still wrapped in vines. "Koronue, could you carry the guards?"
He nods and grabs the guards. Then he spreads his bat wings and takes off for the camp, after he knocks out the two guards, of course.
"Let's get out of here," Kit says, looking back as the buzzard demons dive at the guards. "Before they decide to eat us as well."
"Yes, let's go," Youko says.
***next day***
Kit wakes up and sees that Youko is not beside her. Then he walks in from the bathroom. "Hey," he says, stretching. He's already dressed in his usual outfit.
{Kit, Youko! Come! The night guards have been killed. As with the night patrol. The guards we got yesterday are missing, and they didn't walk away!} They hear Lira telepath.
"You heard her," Kit says, snapping her fingers. She is suddenly in a black fighting outfit with red, gold, and silver trim. "Let's go."
They run to where Kit's sister is waiting for them. "What happened Lira?" Kit asks, seeing her sister kneeling on the ground, looking at some marks.
"It appears that someone or something dragged the captured guards away, after they killed our guards and the patrol," Lira says. "Tara and Koronue are missing, though."
"Do you think you could track whatever had captured them?" Youko asks, his face set in a stone-cold expression. But who could blame him? His best friend from childhood just went missing over night. But so did Lira's and Kit's closest friend.
"I can do what I can. But the scent heads to the river, even though the tracks head deeper into the forest. That is hard to accomplish, but it can be very confusing to those who try to track it, unless they flew away but walked in," Lira says, motioning to the tracks on the ground.
"But why would whatever captured them, if they had wings, why would they walk in, where they would've been in plain view of Koronue and Tara?" Kit asks, perplexed. She takes a sniff. Then she gasps. "I hope I'm wrong, but what if they are the Kitsas that attacked?"
"You mean those creatures that we destroyed, sister? But we killed the Alpha pair. There were only twenty left. And unless they could have chosen another Alpha pair very fast, then they would still be in chaos," Lira says.
"But it smells like their scent," Kit says.
Lira also takes a sniff. And she sighs. "Your right," she admits. "So, what do we do now?"
Kit's eyes harden colder than ice. "We take them out, permanently," she says, her voice cold enough to make a fire demon shiver.
"Um … may I ask what these Kitsas are?" Youko asks, looking at the twins.
"Kitsas have always been one of the less known demon types. They started with a brother and sister. Children of a bat-demoness and a tiger-demon. The brother and sister were in love with each other, so they mated each other. And the Kitsa species is what came from multiple matings. They are … well, they are very fast. And they are dangerous. Only the Alpha pair can mate. The Beta pair is allowed to mate, only when the Alpha pair has been destroyed. But only the Alpha pair can lead the pack. Because the Alpha pair have always been direct descendents of the brother and sister. Each Alpha pair has also been brother and sister. And there were no offspring for the Alpha pair when my sister killed them," Lira says, as she and Youko follow Kit at a safe distance. "The only reason she killed them is because they had the pack kill our parents. And there were over a hundred in the pack when Kit had the two of us and our brothers attack. When Kit and I left, there were only twenty left, and our brothers had been killed. Among the dead were the Alpha pair. And they had left no young."
"That we know of," Kit says, still walking ahead of her sister and mate. "They could have hidden them before we got there. You forgot to mention one very important detail. The Alpha pair always inherited the first pair's psychic powers. Just like we did our mother's. But that Alpha pair's powers were so advanced, that we couldn't foresee what would happen to our own brothers. I can't believe I was so stupid. I should have checked."
"Kit, it was not your fault. No one could have known what would happen when we attacked them," Lira says soothingly, hoping to calm her sister down. "No one would have been able to stop it, even if they had known. There were too many."
"No, I could have taken them," Kit says, hot angry tears flowing down her cheeks. But she kept ahead of Lira and Youko. "I would have taken them all down, if the Alpha pair hadn't been there. And because of that, Micah and Luka are dead. If I had been just a bit faster, they'd still be alive, Lira, they'd be with us."
Lira and Youko exchanged a worried glance. "Kit, sis, it's not your fault. There is nothing you could have done to save them. Kit, you need to stop believing that it's your fault. Nothing is you're fault," Lira says, catching up with her sister. She pulled her to a stop. "Kit, look at me." Kit looked up at her sister's face. And Lira was shocked at the self-hatred very evident in her twin's eyes. "Kit, if you don't stop blaming yourself, you will never be able to win against the Kitsas."
"Lira, if you had been there, you would know how I feel. You were over two hundred yards away, in a different part of their lair. Micah and Luka were protecting me. From the Alpha pair. They were trying to complete what they began, Lira," Kit says. Lira's eyes widen as she realizes what her twin is getting at. "They had originally been after ME! They knew something will happen in the future that revolves around ME! I don't know what it was they knew. But I'm positive that their cubs are after revenge, and are going to continue what their parents started. Lira, our brothers died protecting me. I was too weak. Our brothers would still be alive if I had not been so weak!"
Youko chose wisely to let the twins talk without him intruding. He kept an eye out for anything out of place. Suddenly, he sensed a large amount of creatures surrounding them. "Girls, I don't think that now is the time to be talking. Some creatures have us surrounded," he says, interrupting the talk.
"So we do," Kit says, her face hardening to the point at which even a boulder couldn't do better. "They've come." Suddenly, wild laughing could be heard from the forest surround them. "And they still love the scare technique."
"Yep, Akita, you killer," came a voice of a young female. Suddenly, a young demoness appeared. She had large bat wings, but the body of a tiger. Her eyes were blood red. And the eyes darken when they see Kit. "I see you haven't changed a bit since you killed my parents. Except for height."
"So this is the Akita," comes a masculine voice from behind the girl. A demon steps out from behind a tree. He looks a lot like the girl. "This is the murderer of our parents, Kina?"
"Yes, Kuda. This is Akita," the girl says. "She is the one who killed our parents."
"You are the cubs, then?" Akita says. "You are the ones who had been left behind. But you didn't stay behind the pack, did you? You followed your parents. You wanted to help. But you didn't see what they did to my brothers, did you? You don't know what your parents did. If you want to know, why don't you ask?"
"What are you trying to say, fallen one?" Kuda asks. "You're a Fallen Angel, you should not speak in such riddles."
"A Fallen Angel? Akita, what are they talking about?" Youko asks.
Lira looks at her twin. "Yes, sister, what are they talking about?" Lira asks suspiciously.
Akita smiles. "I haven't told anyone. So the legend is true. With each new Alpha pair, their psychic powers grow," she says, her eyes closed. Suddenly, she sprouts silver angel wings and flies above the others. Her black and silver hair turns snowy white. When she opens her eyes, they are now crimson red. "I'm glad I can let this secret out, now. I will show you what your parents did to my brothers," Akita says to the Kitsas.
Her eyes narrow, her whole body glowing silver. And then everything goes black for the five. Then, slowly, light begins to reform. And they are watching a scene.
A much younger looking Akita is running toward two Kitsas, much older than Kuda and Kina. She is going to fox form. But suddenly two foxes jump in front of her. One was white and the other was black. "Kita, you can't fight them," one of them says, the white one.
"But Micah…," the younger form of Akita says.
"You heard him, Kit," the other says.
"Protecting the girl, eh?" says the male of the Kitsas growls. "I don't think you stand a chance."
"No, not one chance," says the female. "Shall we destroy them, Li?"
"Yes, Dara. We shall. Then we shall kill the Fallen Angel," the male says.
"I don't think you know who you're up against, Kitsas!" the black fox growls, preparing to fight.
"Luka! Look out!" the younger Akita yells as another Kitsa jumps on the back of the black fox. Micah jumps up and destroys the Kitsa.
Then Li rushes forward and grabs onto Luka's neck. Luka howls in pain and tries to get him off. Micah tries to get over to help his brother, but he is stopped by Dara biting on his back leg. Then Luka falls down in a pool of his own blood, already dead.
"LUKA!" the younger Akita screams as her brother's soul lifts up and runs for the heavens. "NO!"
Micah then finds himself battling both Kitsas. And losing. Micah is backed into a corner. "Akita, catch!" Micah says, tossing a small silver amulet to his sister. "Guard it with your life, sister!"
"I promise!" the younger Akita says, watching as her other brother dies in a battle for his life. Right when her brother dies, the younger Akita starts to glow a soft silver.
"NO! Her power is awakening!" Dara says, backing away. "Let's get out of here!"
"I don't think you are going anywhere," a angelic voice comes from the younger Akita. "Actually, I don't think you'll be alive much longer! I shall kill you for killing my brothers!" the younger Akita promises, going to her angel form [same as before description, one with the wings, except smaller]. "Holy Annihilation!" the angel Akita says, lifting off of the ground.
A large silver blast spreads from Akita, killing every adult Kitsa it touches within a hundred yard radius, but leaving everything else alone, including her brother's bodies and the two Kitsa cubs that had run up a few moments before.
And the scene ends. Everything blacked out again; then when the light returned, Youko and Lira saw that Akita had returned to her demon form, and was curled into a small ball, her shoulders shaking every now and then. The Kitsa Alpha pair chose that moment to attack her. They killed her without even a fight.
And Youko got ticked. He fought them for as long as he could stand, but that wasn't enough. He had never experienced their speed, or anything like them before. So he, too, died. Lira managed to kill them, and limp back to camp, but died a few days later, after finding Koronue and Tara, and informing them what had happened to Akita and Youko.
