Disclaimer: I do not own Yu Yu Hakusho. Yu Yu Hakusho, it's story and characters, is owned by Studio Pierrot, Yoshihiro Togashi, FUNimation, and Shonen Jump.
AN: I actually have a good reason for not updating. Actually I have two good reasons:
1) Writer's block (Yeah, I know what your thinking. Real original.)
2) I had the internet taken away from me for a while. You see my brother got a new computer and I got stuck with the crappy old one so... Never mind. I don't want to bore you with the details.
Step Seven: Getting it Off Your Chest
"You know Yusuke, you really don't have to walk me home," Kurama said. After being comforted by Yusuke about his problems with Hiei, Kurama had decided that it was getting late and that he should go home. Yusuke had offered him his bed for the night, but Kurama had turned him down. He knew about Yusuke's mother and her drinking habits and knew that it would be a little awkward.
Plus, his mother must have been worried sick about him. It would be better to go home then to call her and tell her that her daughter was going to spend the night at her male friend's apartment.
"Yeah well, at least this way if you freak out again, I'll be there to catch you," he teased.
Kurama blushed. He was still pretty embarrassed about how he had acted before. "T-That's not going to happen again," he stammered.
"So, when are you going to tell Hiei?" Yusuke asked, changing the subject.
"Whenever I see him, I guess," Kurama replied. "I haven't seen him in a while. Actually, I've kind of been avoiding him."
By that time they had reached the Minamino household. Kurama dug around in his pocket's for his key. He pulled it out and unlocked the door. He turned to Yusuke and asked "Would you like to come in? If you haven't eaten yet your welcome to have dinner with us."
"Are you sure your mom won't mind?" he asked.
He smiled at him. "No, she won't mind," he said. "After all, you did bring home her 'little girl'."
He smiled and shrugged hid shoulders. "Why the hell not," he said. "It's not like I've got anything to eat at home."
Kurama opened the door and looked around. "Mother! I'm home!" he called out.
When Shiori saw Kurama she practically ran down the hall. When she reached Kurama, she gave him a huge hug and almost knocked the wind out of him.
"Oh Shuichi-chan!" Shiori said, holding back a sob. "I was so worried about you! Are you all right? Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine mother," Kurama said. He knew Shiori would be worried, but he hadn't expected this.
Shiori then turned to Yusuke. "Oh, Urameshi-kun!" she said. "Thank you so much for finding Shuichi-chan for me."
"It's no problem Miss Minamino," he said, some what nervously. Yusuke must have been surprised by Shiori's emotional outbursts.
"Mother, would it be all right if Yusuke-kun stayed over for dinner?" Kurama asked.
"Of course he can," Shiori said. "Just go get cleaned up. Dinner will be ready in a moment." Yusuke and Kurama were about to go us stairs to Kurama's room when Shiori whispered something into Kurama's ear. "Urameshi-kun is rather cute isn't he Shuichi-chan?"
Kurama felt his face turn red with embarrassment. He knew where his mother was going with this.
"I'm sorry about all that," Kurama said. During dinner, his mother had kept hinting at how nice of a couple the two of them would make and how cute they looked together. After dinner, the two had retreated back to Kurama's room.
"Don't worry about it," Yusuke said. "I guess she's just worried about you `cause you haven't found a boyfriend yet."
"I guess so. Still, it's rather embarrassing. She's always trying to set me up on blind dates and stu-"
Kurama was cut off by the sound of someone knocking on his window.
"What the hell?" Yusuke blurted out.
"It must be Hiei," Kurama said.
"Oh," Yusuke said as he headed for the door. "I guess I'll give you two sometime alone. I'll see ya later."
"Bye" Kurama said, but he wasn't sure Yusuke heard him, because Hiei knocked again, this time much harder. Kurama was surprised the glass didn't break. Kurama pulled back the curtains to find an angry looking fire demon. He opened the window to let him in. He hopped inside and began to look around the room as if he were looking for something.
"Where is he?" he asked. Kurama could tell from the sound of his voice that he was trying to stay calm but, it wasn't working.
"Where's who?" Kurama asked puzzled.
"You know who," he snapped.
Kurama rolled his eyes at him. Why was Hiei acting this way? "I honestly don't know who your talking about Hiei."
Hiei took a few deep breaths and then look Kurama straight in the eyes. He looked angry and sad at the same time. "You don't have to play dumb with me Kurama. I know about you and Yusuke."
Now Kurama was even more confused. "What are you talking about?"
Hiei turned and looked at the ground, unable to face him. "I..." he stopped and searched for what to say. Kurama could tell that Hiei was really upset and had something important to say. "I know that the two of you are in love."
Kurama knew he must have looked rather silly as he starred at Hiei like he was insane. This was the second time that day that someone had thought he and Yusuke were a couple and this time it was the man he loved! He couldn't think of what to make of this so he just said the first thing that came to his mind. "Ew."
Now it was Hiei's turn to stare. "What?"
"I said 'ew'," Kurama repeated. When Hiei's still didn't seem to get it, Kurama decided to explain. "What I mean is, I'm not in love with Yusuke. I do love him, but I love him like a little brother!"
Hiei seemed to sigh in relief, as if some weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
"Were you jealous Hiei?" Kurama asked.
Hiei blushed when he heard this. "N-no! Why would I be jealous."
"There is someone I love you know," Kurama said.
When he heard Kurama say that she was in love with someone Hiei felt his heart sink. He could have kicked himself for saying those stupid things before. He knew that Kurama wasn't in love with him and this time it felt even worse not knowing who it was. Who could she be in love with? He couldn't really think of any man that would be worthy of Kurama's love and affection. Then again it didn't have to be a man. After all, Kurama had the mind of a man still. It could be a girl.
Whoever it was, male or female, they were the luckiest person in the world if they were loved by Kurama.
Why was he wasting so much time questioning himself? All he had to do was ask Kurama and she would tell him. He bit down on his lower lip so hard he was sure that he'd broken skin. He didn't want to know, but it was killing him inside not knowing. "Who?" he asked half heatedly.
He saw Kurama shift from foot to foot awkwardly from the corner of his eye. It was possible that she knew that he really didn't want to know. He didn't do a very good job of hiding it in his voice. "I...," she began "...love you."
Hiei felt his heart beating faster and faster. Did Kurama really say what he thought she said. "Wha... What?" he stammered.
Kurama blushed slightly. "I said, I love you Hiei."
She loves me! She loves me!
He couldn't remember the last time he had left this happy. He felt like he was standing on air. This must have been some kind of wonderful dream.
If this is a dream, he thought, then I should make the most of it before I wake up.
Before Kurama could even protest Hiei grabbed her and kissed her long and hard. This had to be the happiest moment of both their lives.
