Disclaimer: I do not own Yu Yu Hakusho.
In a far away land was the massive fortress of the White Tigeress. She ruled over her people with fairness and dignity. She treated everyone as equals. The tiger citizens loved their beloved princess. She just had one problem. She was just a princess. Everyone believed that she should marry and give the people a king. The Tigeress wouldn't hear of it.
I love my people and respect what they desire, but I refuse to be courted by the demons this or any land, she announced. She truly believed her words and the people accepted her answer.
Though, day by day young men came to meet with the princess. She knew why they came. These demons thought they could sway her heart, but she would never give in. She would meet with them, but she would never allow her heart to begin to fancy any of them. That was until she met one of her very own servants.
The Tigeress was awaiting the arrival of another demon sent to try and capture her heart when she saw him. He looked very familiar. She could tell by his dress he was just a servant, but he had a face that couldn't easily be forgotten. His black hair spiked in all directions. His pale skin appeared so soft and weak. But, it was his eyes that captured her. They were deep black pools that showed no fear nor any bliss. They showed pain, agony, and betaryal.
The whole time she was with the man she was to meet with, who turned out to be the demon prince of the vast northern lands, Kita, she could only think of the servant she had glimpsed. She wondered who he was and what his job was. She also began to wonder why she had never noticed him before. He had seemed to strong to be made a servant by the way he stood straight backed. He had a coolness in his eyes that showed betrayal and a look in his lips that clearly said he was lonely.
The princess was always gifted in facial readings. She loved that she was able to tell anyone's mood just by the way they stood, how they smiled, and how their eyes shone. She knew this man was no different than all the others she had entertained herself with. He wore his self like everyone else with one exception. He didn't try to hide. He didn't wear a mask over how he felt. He wore them proudly.
