Happy belated birthday Sam! This picks up from Hiei's P.O.V. …. Its a lot darker than the last and made purely because Sam kept nagging me to. I might write a more cheery version later, but don't bug me about it. That means you Sam. ^____^ I hope this is sort of what you meant by your suggestions as you nagged me.

This is a sequel, so read “Yukina's Hope” first. (previously titled Yukina's Letter) Slightly different writing style, and this has less spelling errors.

This is DARK and SERIOUS. You've been warned. I hope you feel sad reading it, cause that means I did a good job! =D

Disclaimer- I do not own YYH.

Winter was coming. The nights were becoming colder, and longer. Makai winters were cold enough that even fire demons would don heavier cloaks.

Hiei looked up at the night sky, from a tree, and pondered the purpose of life. His life certainly didn't have much meaning left. He had accomplished all the goals he had for his life, and while he wasn't exactly alone he thought, none of his few friends really needed him, and would probably be just fine without him. Not even probably. They might be sad for a little while but they would go on with life and forget about him. They all had other, more important, things going on in their lives.

Probably the only people who would miss him were his many enemies, and the lost chance for revenge.

A familiar voice snapped him out of the dark turn his thoughts were taking.
“Hiei! Hello!”

“…” Hiei didn't say anything; in fact, he didn't even bother to look down at Kurama. He was one of the friends mentioned in the previous paragraph, obviously. Kurama knew he had heard though.

“I've got a message for you, from yukina.”

That got Hiei's attention. He lightly jumped out of the tree and landed in front of Kurama, who held the letter out to him.

“Why is she trying to contact me?” He asked

“It says in the letter. Make sure to read ALL of it, especially the end.

“Hn.”

He opened up the letter, reading it more carefully than he might normally have, because it was from Yukina. When his face paled unnaturally, Kurama decided it would be prudent to leave for a little while, so if Hiei had any anger to get rid of he could inflict it on the trees, as opposed to the fox. He'd come back later when Hiei was calmer.

Hiei hated that letter.
She had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. She obviously didn't know him well, something he had done on purpose, and she certainly didn't know what he had done.

Or the danger she'd be in. The thought chilled him to the core. Even if he ran, people knew about it now. Word could spread even if he didn't reply. Even if he severed contact with her people might try to get at him through what was the one undeniable connection in his life.

No fool could severe the bonds of blood. Except… for in…

The more he thought about it, the more he believed that it was the only solution to the problem. If he was going to do it, he had to leave before that baka kitsune came to check on him and talk him into coming back to the human realm. What a fool thing to do.

Hiei left a few minutes later, running fast enough that the kitsune wouldn't be able to catch up, running until he was far enough away that Kurama wouldn't figure out what happened.

When he finally stopped, hours later, he was in an entirely different forest, miles and miles away from where Kurama had given him the hated letter. He looked over a small lake. The water was crystal clear, reflecting the first pink tinges of the morning sunrise back at him. Mocking him. Challenging him with the very serenity of the place.

It was a place out of a storybook; that the sight of would fill most with a feeling of peacefulness, calm serenity and hope. Hiei felt unworthy of such feelings, just as he felt unworthy of being Yukina's brother.

Unworthy of life itself.

He drew his sword out of its sheath, turned it towards himself, and felt the blade slide through his heart. A burning pain consumed him, feeling almost like the fires of hell. He welcomed the pain, letting it fill him, consume him. Blood dripped down the black cloak, and the edges of his vision went dark.

He turned his head upward and felt a spot of coldness on his forehead.

Snow…

He fell into the water, destroying the perfect image on the calm surface, as the first snowfall of the winter drifted onto the lake.

Kurama returned to where he had met Hiei as the sun rose, only to find him not there. The letter was though, and scrawled on the back was a hasty note.
Tell her you couldn't find me

He pondered it for a second. `Not ready to face her yet, Hiei?' The mental call received no answer; not that it meant Hiei hadn't heard. Well, He would come around eventually. It had taken two weeks to find Hiei as it was, so Yukina would believe he had searched. He decided to go with what Hiei said. Hiei would speak with her when he was ready, and not a moment sooner, kurama new.

Besides, it was cold, winter was coming, and as a plant demon he despised both. Ningen winters were much milder. As if it had heard his thoughts, it began to snow. He shivered and left, without bothering to follow Hiei's trail. Yukina would be patient, for that was the kind of person she was.

A/N. yeah, how did I do? It was my first time writing a character death, actually. I tend to like happier fics. Proof of that is I didn't even let them know he had died. I don't think I could give justice to the grief they would feel at Hiei's death, you know?

If you read Yukina's Letter, before it was edited, you might notice and appreciate the much improved grammar and spelling. ^_^ opinions- should I re-write the first?
