The moon was fading, the birds were chirping their good mornings, the leaves were dripping dew. Kurama took a deep breath.
"A great morning. Well, gotta get to work."
He commented before shutting the front door and making his way to the garage.
Opening the door revealed a sleek purple mountain bike. smiled. He loved this bike, his mother purchased it for his 18th birthday last month.
Shifting the pack on his shoulder, he made his way over to the bike.
He wrapped the bag handle on the basket on the front of the bicycle.
He glanced down at his clothes, making sure he didn't have a hole anywhere.
He was wearing tight white sweat pants, with a yellow tunic over it. tunic reached down to his knees and split up the sides.the tunic, he wore a loose white sweatshirt and black loafers on his feet.
The redhead loved yellow, his fiancee told him it brought out the color of his hair.
Kurama swung a leg over the seat, and kicked up the kickstand.he biked down the driveway to deliver the morning newspapers.
Kurama pondered as he tossed a paper on the neighbor's doorstep.
'It's been three months since the ghost incident.' He still got jittery around his lover sometimes. not something you just forget about. Take yesterday for instance.
~*Flashback*~
Hiei was taking a nap upstairs, so Kurama thought he'd sneak an apple for lunch. just washed it off before his lover came downstairs.
Kurama whirled around, hiding the fruit behind his back. Hiei looked at him funny.up to the redhead, Hiei leaned in close.
"What do you have behind your back? Is something wrong?" He asked.
Kurama shook his head negatively. Hiei grasped his arm and pulled it around, revealing the crisp apple.
Kurama shuddered and turned his head to the side, awaiting the worst. looked at the fruit, confused. Catching on, He closed Kurama's fingers around it.
"Fox, if you want to eat the apple, then do it. As a matter of fact, why don't I cook you some rice for lunch?" He said sweetly.gaped before remembering he was allowed to eat now.
"O-ok Hiei, that would be wonderful.."
~*End Flashback*~
Kurama smiled at the memory. He didn't do things like that too much anymore.a month ago, he took on the job of delievering the newspapers at 5:00AM every morning.
He took over the job when Billy, the former delievery boy, took on soccer and didn't have time to do this kind of thing.
Turning the corner, Kurama marveled at how beautiful the scenery was in the morning.
He'd get home about 7:00AM, in time to wake up Hiei and watch the sunrise. he'd go downstairs and make breakfast. He sincerely hoped that Hiei would pick scrambled eggs this morning, he was craving them something fierce.
He was entering the city now, he was finished making his rounds.
Looking at his watch, he noted it was 6:31AM, almost time to go home to Hiei.
But, he needed to pick up a loaf of bread first. Glancing at his watch again, he heard a car honk.
Looking up, he gasped, then screamed.
"SCREAAAAACH..........BAM...........Thump...."
"Oh my god! Somebody call an ambulance! Is she ok? He? Is he alright?!"
"..........Yeah he's alive.........it looks like his right leg's broken though.."
Hiei jolted awake, searing pain shot up his right leg. He hissed, and clutched his leg. Breathing hard, the pain subsided.
"..........Kurama..."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Hiei sat in the waiting room, twiddling his thumbs. got a call earlier that morning, it was the hospital.
Apparentally, his lover had an accident and broke his leg or something. he was waiting for the doctor to come out.
Minutes later, a scraggly looking man in a white coat came into the room. looked around before glancing at his clipboard.
"Shuuichi Minnamino's family?" He asked, pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose.
Hiei immediantly stood. The doctor gestured for him to follow. Hiei complied, following the doctor out into the hall.
"Shuuichi will be fine, his right leg is shattered in three places, plus his knee cap was busted in two. We're fitting him for a cast right now, you can take him home in a couple hours. If you would, wait in this room and we'll let you know when you can see him." With that, he looked at Hiei for an answer. The demon grunted.
"Just as long as you don't make me wait too long." He grumbled before parking himself back in his chair. doctor huffed at Hiei's rudeness before stalking down the hall. Hiei glanced around at the people in the room.was an older lady sitting in a chair, knitting something. A young boy was playing with a lego set.were two teenage girls screwing around with the coffee machine. Hiei sighed and glanced at the table next to his chair.were magazines stacked neatly on the surface. Hiei's curiousity peaked. So, he reached over and grabbed the book on top of the pile.
"Hmm........Baby World..." The demon muttered. The magazine was for parents of young babies and toddlers. Hiei flipped through the first few pages.of babies and mothers donned some of the pages. Others had text, advice for raising children.vaguely remembered his fiancee mentioning babies. Hiei didn't know heads or tails on how to raise them. So, he lied and told Kurama he didn't want a kid.fire demon had regretted it though, when he seen the devestated look on the fox's face. Hiei cringed at the memory. He never meant to hurt the kitsune.
Making up his mind, Hiei delved into the book, determined to learn a thing or two about kids. After a few minutes, Hiei had a look of utter confusion.
"This baby shit is gonna be hard...." He commented softly before reading on. He read all about teething, changing diapers, potty training, keeping the baby entertanined, and dicipline. He learned quite a bit. Grinning, Hiei set the magazine down on the table. He yawned and ran a finger through his hair.
"I'm all set for when Kurama brings up kids again." He felt happy now that he didn't have to be afraid of getting children. Hiei settled back in his chair, closing his eyes.
'They better let me see my fox soon...' He thought as he slowly drifted off to sleep. His soft snoring was unheard in the noisy room.
The fire demon felt something shaking his shoulder. Hiei scolwed. Wasn't it a little early for Kurama to want sex? So, Hiei batted at the hand.
"Go back to sleep fox, I'm too tired to fuck you right now." Hiei's eyes popped open when he heard an old woman screach. Looking around, he noticed the doctor standing over him, looking a little frazzled. He glanced at the old woman, who was glaring death threats and covering a child's ears with her hands.
Hiei mentally shrank down in his seat. He felt about an inch tall.
".......................................Sorry.." He mumbled before staring at the floor. The doctor cleared his throat.
".....Yes, well, you can see Shuuichi now. Come, follow me." He stated quickly before getting as far away from the demon as possible.
Hiei felt all eyes on his form as he walked the long walk out of the room and away from the amused, angry, and confused expressions. Hiei felt better knowing he was going to see his fiancee. The doctor led him to a room with the door shut. The doctor turned to him.
"I'll be back later to tell you when you can take him home." With that, the doctor glared at the fire demon before stalking off toward the nursing station. Hiei faced his back, mocking the doctor's words and movements. Feeling onery, he grinned and opened Kurama's door.
Stepping in, he took in the surroundings, it was pretty much all white. Hating the environment, Hiei closed the door and approached the sleeping kitsune on the bed. The redhead looked fine, other than the green cast on his left leg. Hiei noted that the cast was the same color as Kurama's eyes...
Hiei sat in the guest chair next to the bed, he didn't want to wake the kitsune yet. Hiei couldn't wait to get out of here. He hated hospitals.........especially this one. He hated it because this was the place Kurama died........
Grimacing at the memory, Hiei sat back and closed his eyes.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Where am I?" Kurama asked aloud. His surroundings were hazy. His vision cleared a bit. He could make out the stairs.....
"Stairs...?" He commented. Looking around, he noted that everything but the stairs was black. It was like he was standing in space without stars. Looking up the stairs, he seen a room up there. Looking closer, Kurama gasped.
"This is........my stairs! This is my house! But, where's the rest of it?" He said at nothing. Glancing around once more, he decided to just climb the stairs to the guest room. Taking a step forward, Kurama paused. Looking down, he noted that his right leg was fine. It wasn't broken. Confused, Kurama patted it on the floor.
"It's......not broken...hmm.." He pondered this and slowly started climbing the stairs. As he climbed, a feeling of dread and fear started creeping up his spine. Hesitating, Kurama placed a hand to his heart. He breathed in deeply before climbing ever so slowly up the stairs. He dreaded reaching the top. Now, all he had to do was turn and he'd be in the guest room. He turned the corner. The guest room sat just like it always had. Breathing out in relief, he fully entered the room.
He noted that something was off......something.......just not right about the atomosphere. Looking around, he almost jumped back. On the floor, there was a trail of blood about a body's width, leading into the hallway. Fear reared it's ugly head. Kurama felt his heart pounding in his chest. He was sure that it was echoing in the quiet house. But, Kurama also felt a large amount of curiousity. It was like he WANTED to know who's blood it was, and WHAT was waiting in the only room at the end of the hall..........his and Hiei's bedroom.....
Kurama was at a loss. Fear screamed at him to run back downstairs and find a way out, while curiousity compelled him to move forward. Apparentally, curiousity won, because Kurama felt his legs taking him forward. Standing in front of the start of the hallway, Kurama noted how dark it was; but the blood seemed to have a light of it's own, making it glow red eerily. Kurama leaned against the wall, prespiration slowly dripped down his forehead. He could make out his bedroom door, standing a bit ajar. The blood trail turned into the room. Kurama didn't want to go down there, but his legs once again started inching forward. He hugged the wall, making his way down the dark hallway.
Kurama glanced at the picture hanging on the wall; the groupshot Keiko took after a mission. The fox gasped. Where Hiei's picture should've been, there was a dark black smudge there, as if Hiei wasn't even there.....
Kurama felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. He felt a fear he never felt before. It was a fear for his beloved fiancee. New determination set in, and Kurama was in front of the door in no time. Lightning flashed outside the window, followed by a loud clap of thunder. Kurama jumped like he was shot. The kitsune turned to the window and looked out. It was nothing but darkness out there.........nothing.....
Lightning flashed again and Kurama saw that there was indeed nothing outside the window. It was like a vortex of oblivion. Kurama's heartbeat sped up. He wrapped his arms around himself to calm down.
'I know this is my house......but what the hell's going on!' He screamed at himself in his mind. A muffled sound came from behind him. Kurama whirled around, the bedroom door stood loomingly. Kurama felt the need to just fling the door open and face whatever monster that was in there. But, fear kept him from doing that. So, he crept forward and stood in front of the door.
Kurama reached a badly shaking hand up and wrapped his fingers around the doorknob. The door creaked when he gave it a gentle pull. Kurama stopped, listening for any sounds. Hearing nothing, he pulled the door all the way open and stepped inside.
The room was dark, too dark. Kurama squinted, trying to make out anything in the bedroom. Lightning flashed, and he caught sight of a figure hunched over on the bed. Kurama almost screamed and ran away, but fear rooted him to the spot, unable to move. Finally, he reached over and fumbled for the light switch. He felt the outline of the switch and felt around. Finding the familar feel of the switch, he flipped it on. Light flooded throughout the room. Blinking, Kurama tried to clear his vision.
The first thing that he noticed was the blood all over the floor. Covering his mouth with his hand, he took in the rest of the room. Lamps, vases, everything was scattered around; as if there was a struggle. Kurama's line of sight fell on the bed. He choked on his own spit before leaping back and leaning against the wall, eyes wide in horror.....
The figure on the bed sat up, revealing another figure laying under him, obviously dead. Blood was all over both figures, the bottom person looked like he was chopped up with a knife...or a sword. But what made Kurama even more horrified was that both figures were the same person! The top figure looked over at Kurama and grinned evily. Kurama noted that his red eyes were glowing abnormally. Kurama choked at the lump in his throat.
"H-Hiei.." He said in disbelieve. The Hiei on top frowned.
"Hmph, I'm not Hiei.." He pointed to the mutilated body beneath him.
"That there's the poor son of a bitch." He laughed menacingly at Kurama's scream.
The fox backed into the wall, taking in the sight of his fiancee, laying there in pieces. He was sure it was Hiei when he spotted the dragon ring donning Hiei's left finger.....well, what was left of his left finger...
Kurama looked around before running to the door. The door slammed shut in his face of it's own accord. The imposter laughed louder as he watched the fox's futile attempts to escape.
The fox was terrified! He frantically tried ramming the door down, or kicking it down, but the door held strong. He started when the laughter stopped. Slowly, he turned to the bed. The Hiei on the bed was staring at him intensely. Kurama even felt the hairs on his arms stand on end. Hiei stood on the bed, raising a blood stained sword. Kurama almost hurled, for Hiei started licking the blood off the sharp blade. Hiei felt eyes watching him, he grinned at the staring fox.
"Hey slut, did you miss me?" He asked mockingly. Kurama gasped and jumped back.
"Y-you!" The fox yelled.
'How can he be back! I thought he went to hell!' He cowered against the wall, too scared to do anything. The imposter jumped off the bed.
"You know.........this blade's lacking quality blood. I know from experience how delicious your blood is....." Kurama about fainted. He remembered all the painful and humiliating times the imposter had raped him.
Kurama whimpered when he realized what the imposter was going to do. 'Hiei' walked slowly toward the fox. Kurama turned and tried opening the door. He fell through when the door easily opened. The fox got over his surprise quick when he heard footsteps right behind him. Kurama scrambled up and took off down the hall like a freight train. He didn't care how, but he HAD to get out of there. He turned and ran down the stairs. He was mildly surprised when he noticed that he was in the living room. He looked around, his house was just as it should be.
The fox choked on his breath when heavy footsteps came pounding down the stairs. Kurama turned to the front door. He swung it open and stared.......and stared.of his front yard, it was a forest. There was a path, leading from the front door, and it ended right at the entrance to the jungle. Kurama slightly turned, he yelped and ducked, a katana zinging over his head, connecting with the wall. The imposter tried to free the sword. Kurama took no time in running into the forest, wanting nothing more than to get away from that living nightmare.
Tears streamed down his cheeks as he thought about his dead fiancee. He thought they got rid of the imposter three months ago.
'Apparentally not...' He criticized himself. A low, evil murmur brought him out of his thoughts.
".......Run...............run.......little fox.................run................" Kurama's heart beat sped up, as did his footsteps. He pounded his way through the foilige, trying to find something that'd tell him he was about to escape. He felt a dark presence not too far behind him. Squeaking, he ran harder. He found he couldn't transform into the Youko, which pissed him off. Apparentally, the imposter wanted to kill him as a human.
"......Kurama.....................I know where you areeeee......." The evil voice of Hiei was echoing through Kurama's head. The voice was singsonging the words, making Kurama even more frightened. He tripped and fell on a root. Grimacing, he urged himself to stand and keep running. He couldn't get his legs to work, he felt paralized. Rustling sounds behind him made his heart stop. He worked with his legs, slowly standing. Looking behind him, he saw nothing but bushes. Another sound, this time of metal, sounded to his left. Kurama needed no more urging; he was gone in a heartbeat.
He swiped at branches and bushes, trying to get away.
'There! Up ahead!' He thought to himself. He could see an opening. Light was gathered at the end of the forest. Kurama reached the edge of the clearing before Hiei dropped down in front of him.
"Kuramaaaaaaaaaaaa....................................I found you......." Hiei said darkly, grinning very evily. Kurama fell to the ground in shock. He was so close..... pulled out his katana, the blade glistening in the light. Kurama noticed the blood was gone from the metal.
"What...........what do you want?" Kurama asked timidly. The imposter grinned.
"What.........do I want?" He asked mockingly. Kurama backed up a little on his haunches. The imposter stood about ten feet from him. Hiei laughed before raising his blade.
"I.............want................................to see your blood......." He commented. Kurama's eyes widened.
'So this is it................at least I'll be able to see Hiei.....' He thought before watching the imposter make his way toward him. As he got closer, Kurama felt determination set in.
'No! I won't let him win! I can't die like this!' Resolved, Kurama shot up and zoomed back into the forest, making sure to not lose which direction the opening was in. He heard Hiei grunt and take off behind him. He knew he wouldn't last long, but he would be damned to hell if he was going to give up without a fight!
Kurama felt fatigue setting in. He knew that he wouldn't last too much longer. But he didn't want to die.......again!
"Little foooox.........................run run run.................................I'm gonna get you........................and then I'm gonna EAT YOU!!!!!!"
Kurama couldn't help but scream at the dreadful words. He jumped over tree roots and ran under hanging branches. His clothes were torn and dirty, and he felt sweat drenched into his hair. Running, he caught sight of something in the distance.
".......A cabin....?" He muttered before speeding toward it. He knew that it probably wasn't smart, secluding himself in one place; but there could be weapons in there he could fight with. He scrambled up to the worn door and flung it open. It was dark inside. He inched his way inside, looking around. He couldn't make anything out in the darkness. He fumbled around for a lamp or something, leaving the door wide open.
He bumped into a table in what seemed to be the center of the room. He swiped is hands around slowly, until he felt something that felt like a lamp. He found the switch on the side. Switching it on, the cabin was filled with a warm glow. Kurama sighed in relief. Catching his breath, he put his hands on the table, pondering his situation.
He screamed when arms roughly wrapped around him. He flailed and kicked, unable to shake the imposter off him. Hiei threw Kurama to the floor. The fox barely had time to scream when a knife went through his left hand, pinning it to the floor. Pain shot through his hand and up his arm. His throat grew hoarse from screaming. It wasn't long before another knife went through his other hand. Kurama felt searing pain in both arms. He looked into the imposter's glee filled eyes.
"...B-bastard.." He muttered before screaming in pain. The imposter smirked.
"I told you that you were gonna die...." He said, leaning over the fox. Kurama started when the imposter bent over his neck. He thrashed and kicked and screamed when he felt sharp teeth implant into his neck.
"Get........GET OFF ME!!!" He yelled, pain evident on his face. The imposter sat back, a chunk of flesh hanging from his mouth. He had Kurama's blood dripping from his chin. Kurama gasped in horror.
"You.....monster." He said, banging his head against the floor in defeat. The imposter just laughed, spraying blood everywhere. Seeing no reaction from the fox, the imposter frowned. Then, he grinned. Kurama didn't like the look on his face. Kurama nearly hurled his stomach when the imposter leaned down and pressed his lips to his. Kurama tried to get away, turning his head to the side. He started spitting, trying to get his own flesh and blood out of his mouth.
The imposter laughed at Kurama's discomfort. He stopped short when Kurama spit in his eye. He calmly wiped it off and frowned at the scared fox.
".........Playtime's over.................time to die..........kitsune..." He whispered before drawing his katana. Kurama closed his eyes, knowing that it was the end.
The imposter didn't like that, so he reached down and tugged on one of the fox's eyelids. Kurama flinched and opened his eyes. The imposter smirked.
"Well..........the chase was fun......but it's over. And so are you." With that, he brought the katana down and impaled it into Kurama's chest.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!"
Hiei awoke with a start, his eyes taking in his surroundings. His vision landed on Kurama, who was thrashing around in the bed. The fire demon rushed to his side and gently shook him. When that had no effect, he took him by both shoulders and let him have it.
It wasn't long before Kurama opened his pretty green eyes. The fox looked up and saw a very worried looking fire demon.
"Hiei......you're alive.." He stated, pulling Hiei into a hug. The fire demon's eyes were like saucers.
"Of course I'm alive, greeneyes." He caressed the kitsune's red hair, trying to calm him down. Kurama sniffed and pulled away.
"I was having a nightmare." He confessed. Hiei's eyes softened.
'It must've been bad for Kurama to do this.' He thought to himself. He pressed Kurama's forehead to his chest and rubbed his back soothingly.
Kurama felt better, having his fiancee hold him like this. He remembered the nightmare, Hiei had been cut in little pieces. He shuddered at the memory.
"It was.........so real....I'm sure of it. I felt the fear, the pain, and everything!" He exclaimed. Hiei didn't know what to do, so he just continued to soothe him while the fox ranted. Kurama continued to talk about how real it was and what had happened.
Hiei was in shock that his fox would have a dream such as that one. He was standing behind Kurama's wheel chair, watching the fox sign himself out.
Hiei rolled Kurama outside the building and toward their car. Hiei was glad that Kuama taught him how to drive. Opening the passenger seat, Hiei helped the fox settle in without injuring his leg any further. He popped open the trunk and shoved the wheel chair inside. Slamming it, he started back over to the driver's seat.
The silence in the car was so thick you could feel it, as if it were tangible. Hiei kept glancing over at the fox, who was staring out the window. Hiei's forehead scrunched in worry. He reached a hand over and softly caressed a pale cheek. Kurama's eyes widened before he turned around in the seat and faced Hiei.
"Hiei...?" He asked. Hiei shrugged.
"You were lost in your own little world there kitsune." To anybody else, the words would sound harsh, but Kurama knew what Hiei was trying to say.
"Thanks for caring. I love you." He said lovingly before leaning over and pecking Hiei on the cheek. Hiei had a silly grin on his face the rest of the way home....
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"No Kurama. No no no no no." Hiei crossed his arms over his chest, leaving no room for arguement. Kurama sighed, propping his head on his hand. He was sitting at the kitchen table, begging Hiei to do him a favor.
".............Please?" He pleaded, giving Hiei a puppy look. The fire demon visibly softened.
".......................Fine..." He concluded, flinching at Kurama's cheer. Hiei knew he just made a stupid mistake. Kurama started to stand but Hiei pushed him back in the chair.
"Hiei! I need to-"
"No, the doctor said to stay off your feet. So STAY!" He said the last part while wagging a finger at the redhead like he was a dog. Hiei grinned.
"Besides, I need to cook dinner. Because you can't. So sit and relax." He lectured, kissing Kurama's forehead. The redhead blushed at all the attention he was getting.
"Can I at least-"
"NO." Hiei patted his head and went about the kitchen, pittering and pattering with the pans and pots. Kurama sat and watched, feeling as useful as a broken down car.
That night, the couple were laying in bed, Kurama had his leg propped up on some pillows; Hiei's oh so helpful suggestion. Kurama sighed. The pillows were really getting on his nerves. Hiei's soft snoring next to him just made him feel worse. Hiei could sleep, but he had a case of insomnia. Fluffing his pillow for the umpteenth time, Kurama thought about the dream he had that day. It had been so real. He was sure that he was really there. Maybe it was an omen of things to come...?
Kurama shook his head. That was ridiculous. He had been on some strong medicine in the hospital, so he had been sleeping deeply. Maybe that let his subconcious catch up to him. That resolved, Kurama laid back in the bed, thinking about what Hiei was gonna be doing in the morning.....
Kurama grinned in his sleep.
