Days had passed and not hide or hair of Hiei and he was mentally cursing himself up and down. He had hoped for everything to have a better ending. The attraction he had from the day he met the fire demon Hiei had been killing him. Hiei was all he would think about, it was worse than a plague, now all could do was wait just like he had done for so long.
“Shuuichi, we're going out tonight.” His mother, Shiori Minamino, called up to him. He smiled, she was the first selfless thing he had ever committed to after coming to the Human Realm. He had had every intention of leaving as soon as he got his demonic powers back, but the old he got... the more he loved her and now leaving her was the last thing he could do.
“Have a wonderful time mother,” he yelled back. And when she became sick... well that's how he ended up being a Spirit Detective. He had been more than willing to give his own life for her happiness.
“How do you do it Kurama?” the familiar deep voice asked. He had been startled, but he wasn't about to show it.
“I don't understand what you mean,” Kurama replied innocently. He was glad he had his back to his visitor thus he didn't have to explain his less than graceful smile.
“How you can go from a heartless killer to an every day human.” The Kurama standing in front of him was reserve, cold, intelligent, and very deceiving, coming across as an innocent, weak human when he far from it. He had grown so used to this Kurama that at times he would forget that this Kurama was a class S+ demon, who was much old and much wiser than he was.
“I'm not sure if I should take that as an insult or a compliment,” he spun his chair around to face Hiei. Kurama was leaning back in his chair, his hands folded neatly on his lap, however the look of restlessness was evident. The smaller demon remained seated on the window still. “You are more than welcome to come in, nothing has changed.” His emerald eyes roamed over and explored the body he wanted so bad and for so long. Hiei was obviously uncomfortable and he didn't want to ruin this, he forced himself to lock gazes with the crimson eyed demon.
Hiei wasn't quite sure of what to make of their current situation, nor was he sure if Kurama was serious about what he said. He had sat on this very window still many times, but that was before Kurama kissed him. Now everything was all messed up. He used to come here and they would talk about everything, and now he wasn't so sure anymore.
“Actually I would prefer if you came in and shut the window.” Kurama voice was stern and deadly serious. Hiei glanced around the room, various plants were scattered everywhere. “I believe we need to have nice long discussion about the other day.” He added softly.
Hiei jumped from the still and landed gracefully on the plush carpeted floor. Using his Jagan he closed the window. He could feel the tension in the air, Kurama felt it too.
“I wish to apologize if I over stepped by boundaries but I meant it, and I meant what I said. I am accustom to always getting what I want and I acted on impulse. Do I regret kissing you? No I don't. I more or less expected you to react the way you did and I don't blame you. I also want you to know I would do it again, and I want to do it again, if you'll let me.” Kurama remained reserve and emotionless as he said the words he had been playing over and over in his mind for days. He didn't break his eye contact with Hiei. “I have said what I wanted, you are free to leave if you wish. If you do leave I understand and I hope that this doesn't ruin our friendship but I do hope you stay.”
Hiei thought over what Kurama had said and the opinions he had. He knew it would be better if he left, and addressed this subject later. That's exactly what he would do. He turned to face the window, but found himself unable to move.
“What do you want from me?” He didn't even realize the question had left his mouth until Kurama rose from his seat.
“Well I want you... all of you... but I will take whatever you are willing to give me.” Kurama was standing behind him now, “What I do want for sure is much more than physical.” His voice was like velvet and Hiei's mind was screaming at him to run, but he didn't. Instead he turned to face Kurama, whom was standing mere inches away from him.
Hiei wasn't given the chance to reply, Kurama was kissing him again, only this one was almost bruising he was froze in place, it took his breath away. This was so wrong, but it felt so right. He could feel the fox demon's hands on the back of his neck and on his lower back. Hiei felt awkward, he had never kissed another before... but at the same time he felt something else. It was Kurama who pulled away he backed off and left him alone in the room, had left so that everything could sink in, so he could leave if he wanted to.
Kurama had earned his respect and trust many years ago. The fox had proved himself as an intelligent, observant, and strong fighter. He gave mercy to those he felt deserved it, and those he didn't believe deserved mercy... well he was thankful they were on the same side. Kurama never made head strong of foolish decisions, no, every word he spoke, every action he took had a reason and was well thought out. He could also manipulate anyone to do anything he wanted them to. That's why, all those years ago, he asked Kurama to help him with the heist that had started their futures as Spirit Detectives. Kurama was the greatest thief to ever live, he had everything needed to pull of any heist he wanted.
What Hiei wanted, no, needed to know was if Kurama was only manipulating him, or if he was being honest. If Kurama was manipulating him, he wasn't going to admit it if he called him out on it. But what if Kurama wasn't just... pretending, then wasn't this what he had wanted. To find someone, anyone, who wouldn't judge him or look at him with disgust.
He unhooked his Katana, and leaned it against the wall at the foot of Kurama's bed. He sat on the edge of the bed and waited. And as he waited he began to seriously consider what Kurama had offered. Another question he had for himself was whether or not he was truly attracted to the same gender, he had never been in any other relationship like this. Yes he respected, trusted, and cared about the fox and his well bring, but attraction was whole other thing.
“Hiei...,” Kurama entered the room expecting Hiei to have left. “you're still here.” he muttered in surprise. “Why not come downstairs with me?” Hiei accepted the thief's offer. However instead of taking the stairs he jumped over the railing, saving a lot of time. He could hear the sizzle of the meat. “I hope you don't mind... but I only eat meat when I'm home alone.” Kurama informed his fire demon friend.
“Hn.”
“Figures you pick now to return to your favorite word.” Kurama teased, trying to rid the tension that seemed to follow them room to room. Hiei just glared. Kurama eyes snapped open and he was overcome with rage he hadn't felt in a very long time. “I know the reason you stayed. You want, you need to know if I'm for real or if this is just a game.” The look on the fire demon's face told him he was correct. He looked like a deer in the head lights, with his jaw hanging wide open.
“I am Youko Kurama... just remember that next time you think you can pull a stunt like that on me. Now get out!” he snarled harshly. Hiei was flabbergasted, he had just come on to him and how he was throwing him out. At first he was going to refuse, until he seen the various plants around the room reacting to the fox's anger. He gave the fox demon a studying glance and left.
Kurama heard him open the window in his room, he had gone back for his Katana and then he was gone.
Kurama took his frustration on his supper and his anger flowed to every plant in the house. He had been so angry he hadn't even noticed what had happened, that is until something touched the back of his head, he spun around and gasped. His mother's house, (he didn't think to highly of his step-father, but whatever made her happy...) looked like a jungle, plants and flowers were everywhere.
“That... how dare he think that... I have never lied to him before, so what makes him think I'd start now.” Kurama asked the plant closest to him. “Just who the hell does he think he his?” He hissed.
He threw the meat for the pan onto his plate with so much force the plate cracked. “I suppose I should undo my little jungle effect before mother gets home, I know this is one thing I can't explain away. 'Oh sorry mom, I sorta gave them super plant food... and next thing I knew the housed turned into a jungle.'” He clucked to himself. The look on her face would be priceless. Of course it took him less than a minute to undo the over growth. And he considered himself lucky that nothing important was damaged.
Sitting down at the dinning room table he glared at his streak. He stabbed and teared at it and one would say it was all over kill. But he was too angry to really care.
~*~*~
Hiei sat in a tree near the Minamino household. He didn't understand why Kurama had had suddenly lost it. He watched as the whole house become engulfed in plants. He had once again underestimated the fox. Within mere minutes all traces of Kurama's rage was gone.
What the hell was he doing here anyways? So what if the fox was pissed? How was that his problem. He thought about it, why had he stayed in the first place? The only thing he knew for sure, was he liked it when Kurama kissed him, and when he looked into Kurama's eyes just before he was kicked out, he had seen more than just anger; hurt. Suddenly he felt horrible. He had led the fox on.
He watched through the windows as Kurama made his way through the house, and much to Hiei's shock, he was shutting all the windows, the fox even went as far and shutting his bedroom window, and locking it. The click of lock told him so; that stung.
~*~*~
He shut and locked all the windows, doors, excluding his own bedroom's window, a window he hadn't shut or locked since he knew Hiei. His anger had slightly subsided, and now he was shutting Hiei out for Hiei's own good, he didn't trust his anger at the moment. Now that all the windows were shut and locked, he stripped out of his school uniform, which he had wore all day. He left his boxers on and crawled into bed. However as soon as he closed his eyes, his plans for the evening, if he hadn't kicked Hiei out, played in his mind. He had planned on inviting the fire-demon to stay the night....
A sudden crash of thunder boomed and Kurama tired to ignore it, even going as far as throwing a pillow over his head. The thunder was followed by lightening, and then heavy rain. Fate really hated him. “This has to be a sick joke!” Kurama cried out in disbelief. Another crack of thunder. “Okay you win! Let's make my life even more of a living hell then it already is!” He ran over to the window, unlocked it and pushing it open, making the whole frame shake. “Are you happy now?”
~*~*~
Hiei had waited outside in the heavy, cold rain. Hoping that Kurama would let him in, hoping Kurama wasn't that mad. But the longer he sat there, the more he knew he blew what was probably his only chance with someone who cared for him. He jumped down from the tree and was about to look for somewhere to stay when he heard what he couldn't believe. Kurama's window flew open and him yelling, “Are you happy now!?”
Hiei stood in the pouring rain in complete disbelief and uncertainty. However by now he was drenched and took his chances with the fox.
Kurama was lying on his side, his back facing the window. “Hiei, I'm sorry about... earlier. And I want you to know... my offer... it's still on the table.”
“Hn.” Hiei replied as he used his fire-demon powers to dry his clothes off, but he still removed his cloak and removed his Katana. He inhaled and took a step towards the bed.
“Don't even think about getting in this bed.” Kurama warned, he felt obligated to.
“Why not?”
“Because if you do... I'm going to assume you accepted my offer...,” Kurama added playfully.
~*~*~
Much to Kurama's disappointment, Hiei had chosen to sleep on the floor, using the side of the bed as a pillow. He yawned and rolled over hoping to catch another few hours of sleep.
“Shuuichi, get up, you have school today.” His mother said sweetly as she pushed the door open, “Good morning Hiei,” she greeted with a smile. He nodded politely, he knew better not to. The great Youko Kurama loved his human woman with every fiber of his being. No one spoke ill about her or to her, well if they wanted to live to see the next sunrise they didn't. Kurama treated his human woman better than he would a lover, if he was home, he would forbid her to do anything, he did it all himself.
She was also the only human to ever hug the fire demon and lived to tell about it. When ever she hugged him Kurama would give Hiei and everyone else the most seething look which screamed to anyone who saw it; you harm her and you will not leave this house alive.
Kurama threw the blankets over his head and rolled over. “Come on Shuuichi, wake up.”
“I'm awake. I'm awake.” he muttered from under the covers, Kurama was not a morning person like everyone thought he was.
“Will you be staying for breakfast, Hiei?” she asked pleasantly. He was about to decline when Kurama accepted for him. It was then he remembered that Kurama had told her that his parents had kicked him out and he was homeless. It explained away all the rainy or stormy nights he stayed over, and everything else. “I'll see you both down stairs then. Right Shuuichi?”
He mumbled something inaudible followed by a loud groan. The blankets lifted about a foot off the bed before falling back down with a thud. Shiori bit her lip trying hard not to laugh as she left her son's room.
“Kurama... you are so stupid,”He growled, however seeing the great fox demon like this was very amusing.
“I am going to say this once and only once. Don't ever say no to her, I don't care how much I want you... if you ever say no to her you will not be welcome here anymore.” Kurama snarled, his tone was so cold. He pushed himself up to a sitting position. He swung his legs over the side of the and fell backwards. Of course third times the charm, he stumbled to his feet. He glanced in the fox's general direction and couldn't look away, he stood there clad only in boxer shorts and wow.
Kurama had his back to Hiei, but he could feel his 'friends' eyes checking him out. A very naughty idea formed in the back of his mind. He sashayed to his dress and pulled out a clean pair of boxers. A nasty little smirk that just didn't suit his face appeared as he let his boxers fall to the floor. There he stood in the middle of his room completely naked, his back facing the fire demon. 'That's for being a jerk last night... and this... this is for not getting in bed with me so I could have my way with you.' He inhaled deeply, held his head up high and turned around. Hiei looked so cute sitting there with his jaw hanging open.
“See something you like?” He asked in a teasing voice, however the question was serious for Kurama. Hiei looked as if he was going to die from embarrassment. He could tell that Hiei was trying to look a way, but he was failing miserably. Kurama slipped his clean boxers on. He moved to his closet and pulled outhis clean school uniform, he acted as if nothing had happened.
Hiei on the other hand... so much for not being attracted to Kurama... because after that little show there was no denying it. And sitting there, eating breakfast with Kurama's whole human family, he couldn't keep his eyes off the fox demon. Maybe he should throw caution and logic to the wind.
