~ FrozenSentiments~
A petite body enveloped in black rested on a branch of a large oak tree, sulking. Black bangs obscured knife-like shadowy eyes that focused on everything and nothing.
The wind picked up speed and murky jealous clouds vaunting its attractiveness, hiding the sun. Leafs fluttered about, prematurely ripped from its parent by the forceful gale. Flamboyant dances of lightning displayed only to show the grim defeat on the youkai's face with each illumination.
He had never felt so ashamed. Crushing defeat with creamy humiliation topped with a cherry. Oh how it sweets the tooth. It could've been worse. A lot worse.
~ Flashback~
The kitsune and the fire youkai sat at the opposite sides of a tree. Kurama was studying and Hiei was lounging around. Kurama lowered his book and raise his lustrous brilliant bottle green eyes towards the heavens.
“Hey, Hiei?”
No answer but he knew the shorter youkai was listening.
“This is the place where we first fought.”
“Hn”
Hiei finally let light reach his pupils.
Kurama sighed.
“It's been so long since that day.”
It was true. It had been a long time. Images of their first battle appeared in front of his eyes. A youkai with spiky jet black hair defending himself against a sharp witted and equally matched vulpes with sanguine hair. Then the fights with Yusuke and the battles along side Yusuke. Absolute exhilaration. But those fun times were over. Enjoying peaceful naps isn't too tedious after all.
A small bead of sweat rolled down his forehead has he fought his impulses but that battle was over long before it began.
“Kurama…”
Kurama turned his head sideways.
“Huh?”
“I…”
He stopped.
Kurama waited patiently but it was making him uneasy. Hiei never had trouble spitting out his cold sentences.
“I-I really lik-”
Hiei was cut off.
“Thank you.”
As Kurama walked away Hiei sharp ears picked up his soft feminine voice whisper:
“Gomen…”
~ End flashback~
The first time he actually had feelings. Emotions for someone. Someone special.
He was the cursed child of the glacial clan. Despised and wanted dead at the moment of birth. He quickly learned to hate and let his frozen heart slaughter without clemency. Setting everything ablaze with his sinister, fiery, and infuriated spirit. He had set his mind solely on retribution. But all that altered when he met Kurama. He found someone (something actually) he cared about. Someone he wanted to stay by besides his sister. At first he tried to deny any of those wretched `human' emotions were his but as time went on his gloomy and arctic heart finally found the warmth of light. His demeanor softened a bit as his demonic and physical energy grew, fighting along side the individual who unintentionally healed him. He was also didn't resent the meeting of Yusuke. If not for him, Hiei would've probably remained in his preceding pathetic state.
Yes Kurama's rejection would've been a lot worse. He had known for quite some that Kurama didn't feel the same way the way Hiei had felt for him.
But it was better to draw the line. Yukina was the one who encouraged him.
~ Flashback~
“Hiei-kun?”
Hiei looked at his half sister from the corner of his eye.
“You seem troubled about something. Is it because of Kurama-kun?”
Astonished he turned and looked at Yukina. She smiled sweetly at him. Compassionate cordial eyes regarded him kindly.
“Don't think I haven't noticed. You act differently around him. When I first met you, you seem cold an indifferent but now you seem more gentle. I know without a doubt that it's because of Kurama.”
“How long have you known?....”
“For quite sometime now.”
There was a moment of stillness between them.
“Hiei, if you really care for him. Tell him how you feel…”
“…tell him how I feel?…”
She grinned.
“Hai.”
Hiei turned to gaze at the waning crescent as Yukina walked away.
~ End flashback~
So that's what he did. He tried to tell that gorgeous fox holding carmine red roses that he wanted more to their relationship than just companionship. This… this damned feeling buried deep within his well developed chest. He clenched his fingers into fists feeling his nails in his flesh. Is this what the humans call a broken heart? Fury forced the bottom jaw to grind against the top one. He wasn't angry at Kurama. Kurama wasn't culpable. The rage belonged to him and him alone. That was so foolish, exceptionally idiotic, beyond reason! Letting himself open up to those imprudent sentiments. Oh he only wished to travel backward in time. Wanting to stay out of reach with his own dispassionate, frozen animated corpse.
Oh how he longed to feel the vitality of feeble humans dripping from his katana onto his wretched youkai hand.
A wicked smirk reared from his lips at that thought.
Now the cloud's mien was sad. It emptied its mournful tears heavily. The tree sheltered him a bit but larger drops permeated his black cloak to his skin.
His smirk widened, though not because of pleasure.
That hanyou detective would kill him. Literally. Yes. It didn't matter any more. He had no will to live, no reason to live. Speaking (no thinking) of Yusuke, there he was standing not to far from the base of tree.
Beneath his dripping bangs, Yusuke's face showed much concern for the youkai above. His chocolate eyes held much worry.
“What do you want, detective.” Hiei hissed in his usually disgusted tone. Yusuke, as acute as usual, found the tone to be more acrid compared to the norm.
“You're gonna catch a cold if you stay like that.”
“We don't get sick. What the hell do you want?”
“Hiei…”
His name was spoken with such empathy it almost made Hiei gag.
“Get your ass away from me.”
“No.”
Yusuke's voice was obstinate and then he sighed.
“I'm sorry about what happened between you and Kurama…”
“How damn perceptive of you.”
Hiei's voice was oozing with satire.
With on quick movement Yuskue was beside Hiei and had his arms wrapped around the shorter character. Hiei was too stunned by the action to act in time so he shrank slightly and stiffened as hard as a board.
“What the hell are you doing!?”
Yusuke didn't answer.
Hiei was on the verge of sinking his teeth in to the spirit detective's flesh.
“Get away from me this instant or I'll kill you.”
“No. I don't want to leave you… I don't care if you kill me… as long… as long as I don't see you get hurt again…”
There was so much affection in his voice. That warmth called to Hiei and it encircling him with a feeling of comforting euphoria like he had never felt before.
Soon he found himself relaxing in Yusuke's arms and even returning the embrace. Yusuke felt joy spread though his body when Hiei gave in.
They stayed like that for several seconds. By then they were soaked to the bone. Hiei drew back and looked at the man in front of him directly in the eye.
Hiei touched Yusuke on the cheek and drew back quickly as if burned.
“Why are you doing this?”
Yusuke gave him a lopsided grin as a few drops of rainwater slowly streamed down his face.
“Do I need a reason?”
A wonderful silence passed between the two. The only thing heard was wind spiraling precipitation in all four directions and an occasional rumble of thunder.
The smaller youkai slowly shook his head, conveniently shaking some water off.
“You needn't have a reason.”
He grinned, to Yusuke's astonishment the smile didn't hold a single trace of malevolence.
Hiei returned into Yusuke's arms while Yusuke smiled softly down upon him.
And so under the rain they drew warmth in each other's arms.
.:The End:.
I really hope you liked this fic. Please review, I really wanna know what you thought about this fic.
Oh I found a song that sorta relates to this fic:
Crowded streets all cleared away
One by One
Hollow heroes separate
As they run
You're so cold
Keep your hand in mine
Wise men wonder while
Starved men die
One by One
Hollow heroes separate
As they run
You're so cold
Keep your hand in mine
Wise men wonder while
Starved men die
Show me how we end this alright
Show me how defenseless you really are
Satisfy an empty inside
That's alright, let's give this another try
If you find your family, don't you cry
In this land of make-believe, dead and dry
You're so cold, but you feel alive
Lay your hands on me one last time
It's alright
