Let's Pretend

Let's pretend that one day
I went out to have some fun.
Let's pretend it went a different way
And I didn't love someone.

Perhaps then you would see
That I still remember.
Perhaps then you still would be
My lovely sweet surrender.

Look up at the sun and think of us
And all we have been through.
Look up at the moon and scream and cuss
About all the things we could do.

Cry by night, sleep by day
That is how I now live.
To live a life a different way?
What I wish you would give!

Do you weep all alone,
Or do you sob to your friends?
Do you shiver to the bone,
When you think of different ends?

It's hard to think that you're still there
But I'm not caressing you.
It's hard to imagine, impossible to bear,
That we're trying to start anew.

And yet, perhaps, it is meant to be
That we should be apart.
And yet, how can you live without me
When you still have my heart?

A thief, a fox, a rose, a love
All rolled into one.
A fire, a dragon, a dark, a love

Let's pretend I will come back
And see we were meant to be.
Let's pretend you'll mend the crack

And many other things too.
