I had seen all five of them at the diner instantly and the demon blood within me didn't like how close that male had gotten to my girlfriend. To my Keiko. And before I could stop myself and use some tact, the words had slipped out of my mouth.

 

“ You'll have something to worry about if you don't get your hands off my woman now,” I had said. And everyone froze except for the male. He was still lax, had not obeyed my warning. Then his voice reached my ears.

 

“ Just calm down whelp. I'm not out to take your woman. I mean she's attractive and everything, but I'm not interested in taking another man's property,” He said. My demon blood cooled some, knowing that he was not trying to take my woman, but he still overstepping into my territory. A growl ripped from my throat. The man rolled his eyes and moved his arm. In an instant, I was calm again. I clenched my teeth, angry that he could arise such a reaction out of me.

 

“ Who are you, you bastard?” I didn't notice Kurama's shock as he stared at the unknown person.

 

“ He's a demon Urameshi,” I paused and thanked every god that Kuwabara had a strong sixth sense.

 

“ Kuronue…?” Kurama's voice was soft, almost weak. But it was definitely pleading, as if he didn't want the person before him to deny him. The youkai grinned.

 

“ Hey Kurama. Long time no see, eh?” Then, Kurama grinned too.

 

“ Would someone tell me what the hell is going on?” I tried to keep my voice low so other people nearby wouldn't hear me.

 

“ I'm Kuronue, a bat demon. Koenma decided to revive me from the dead so I could be your new partner. Isn't that swell? My current mission is to protect Yukina,” Hiei tensed.

 

“ What?” The hybrid said.

 

“ I'm Yukina's bodyguard,” Kuronue repeated. “ Why don't you four sit down before you all have a heart attack.”

 

“ Kuronue, can't you be more subtle?” Yukina asked the bat. The black haired youkai shook his head.

 

“ Kuronue wasn't one for subtleness,” Kurama said. Kuronue grinned.

 

“ Of course not. I'll say it slower so you can all comprehend it. I was Youko's partner. I got killed. I was sentenced to Limbo. Almost a month ago, I was resurrected and Koenma informed me I was now working for him and that I was to be Yukina's bodyguard until further notice. Yukina decided to go to school. So I went to school with her. I have over four hundred numbers, nearly four hundred offers for dates, almost two hundred letters, and a little over fifty sex offers. New record. I followed Yukina to the diner. All five of us have been talking. Then you four show up, looking like you just went to hell and back. End of story,” Kuronue said.

 

“ Wait, what was that about us being unable to comprehend?” I growled.

 

“ I was wondering about that new record thing,” Kuwabara said. Hiei rolled his eyes.

 

“ Always worried about unimportant details. Buffoons,” Hiei snorted.

 

“ Hiei-san, don't be so mean,” Yukina admonished. Hiei grumbled but remained quiet. Kurama chuckled.

 

“ What Kuronue means is that he has attracted most of the females at your school, Kuwabara. Yusuke, Kuronue insults every male he just meets to see how temperamental they are. Think of it as a test. Kuronue, Koenma resurrected you? Why? He could have just as easily found another demon to protect Yukina just as efficiently as you can,” Kurama inquired. Kuronue shrugged.

 

“ Dunno. Gave me some shit about how I used to be a bodyguard before I left that profession,” Kurama nodded in understanding. Kuronue sat up.

 

“ Right. Kurama. Do you know of anybody named Ieyasu Masaya. Rumor has it that he's as good as thieving as you, which I doubt, and that he is currently the head of Makai's black market. And since we all know that the black market is built off of rare jewels, that means Ice Maidens are the top target for any person involved in the black market. Three of his cronies tried to get Yukina two weeks ago. I haven't had an attack on her since. And no suspicious people either. Well, except for this Nugayo boy from Keiko's school,” Kuronue told Kurama.

 

“ Nugayo? He's a wimp,” I said. Kuronue raised his brow.

 

“ He is very persistant. I had to control him to get him to go away. But something didn't feel right. He wasn't resisting me at all. Everyone I've attempted or have controlled has always resisted me. But he didn't. I need you to look into that for me too. Koenma has me nailed down here. I can only go where Yukina's goes, and I am not going to force her to go some place she does not want to,” Kuronue said.

 

“ I'll see what I can do Kuronue. But as a Spirit Detective for Koenma, I can only do so much. There's only person who can fully look into every thing without our restrictions. Yomi,” Kurama told him.

 

“ Yomi?” Kuronue wrinkled his nose. “ He's not a thief anymore is he?”

 

“ No. He's one of the three lords of Makai. However, he still does have connections. I can contact Mukuro and get her to tell Yomi to check into this,” Hiei said.

 

“ Lord of Makai? Didn't see that comin'. Right, knew you guys still had some connections left,” Kuronue grinned.

 

“ I don't get it. You two act like you were never separated in the first place,” I shook my head. “ So you say Nugayo was hitting on Yukina? From what I know, he showed up as a new student at Sarayashiki three months ago. Some people say he doesn't have any relatives. I can get you his school records for you.” I offered. If anyone messed with Yukina, they were messing with my friends, and that pissed me off. I glared at Kuronue.

 

“ You just behave. Any funny business and I'll wipe the floor with your innards,” I threatened. Kuronue grinned innocently.

 

“ Who, me? Why would I do anything? If Kurama trusts you, I can too. That means, no funny business, as you put it. If anything, it will be the girls here who come on to me. They were the ones who were discussing demon sexuality,” Kuronue said. Shizuru hit me over the head.

 

“ Don't accuse of us everything! You were talking too!”

 

“ I was merely satisfying your human curiosity. You were asking all the questions. Kurama, did you know that your own companions are surprised that you are bisexual?” Kuronue told the fox spirit. I gaped at the red head. Hiei rolled his eyes.

 

“ Idiots,” Hiei muttered.

 

“ Whoa, Kurama's bi?” If Kurama were a lesser person, I'm sure he would've rolled his eyes. His eyes turned gold for a moment as the true Youko surfaced.

 

“ Of course I am. I like beautiful things and people, and that includes males. Amongst youkai, it is not so surprising,” Youko said.

 

“ That's what Yukina said,” Keiko blinked.

 

“ That's because Yukina is a very intelligent person,” Youko said. Yukina blushed. Hiei gave a growl audible only to Kurama. The gold eyes flickered and green returned. Kuronue grinned.

 

“ Schizo,” Kurama narrowed his eyes.

 

“ Like you have room to talk. You can barely stand to be outside right now, can you?” Kuronue scowled and shifted.

 

“ Shut up. At least my problem is natural,” Kuronue crossed his arms and pouted. I blinked. This youkai was supposed to be Yukina's protector? He was absolutely harmless. Unfortunately, Kuwabara voiced my thoughts.

 

“ You look like you're absolutely harmless,” He said. Kuronue stopped and grinned.

 

“ That's what it's supposed to look like. So, when the opponent attacks, they underestimate my strength. It is a tactic that has forced many to their early deaths,” Kuronue said. “ In any case, why should we let such a beautiful day go to waste?” Kurama rolled his eyes.

 

“ You hate the day. You told me yourself,” Kuronue'e eye twitched.

 

“ Why would he?” Kuwabara asked. Everyone stared like he was stupid.

 

“ Damn, I'm not even hired to hunt demons and I still know why,” Shizuru grumbled.

 

“ Kazuma, Kuronue doesn't like the daytime because he is a bat demon. Normally, he would be sleeping right now. Bat youkai usually aren't awake until dusk,” Yukina told him. Kuwabara's mouth formed an `O'.

 

“ Ne, Kuronue-chan, shouldn't we start working on our homework?” Yukina asked the bat.

 

“ I would rather read my love letters,” Kuronue said. Shizuru hit him over the head.

 

“ I thought perverts were bad. Flirts are worse,” Shizuru said.

 

“ Why does everyone have to pick on the little guy?” Kuronue whined.

 

“ Little? You idiotic bat, you are nearly seven feet tall,” Hiei snapped.

 

“ Aw, are you jealous because you aren't as tall as me?” Kuronue teased the fire ice hybrid. I winced. `Not a smart move.' Instead of slicing off his head, the shorter male just kicked him under the table. Kuronue flinched.

 

“ No need for violence,” Kuronue grumbled. Keiko's eyes sparked when she seemed to realize something. She turned to me.

 

“ YUSUKE URAMESHI! Where have you been?! I've been waiting for almost a month for you to come home! And the you finally show up, only to get all possesive when you see another guy with me! Well you know what? You have to learn that things have changed in your absence! And-“

 

“ Whoa, whoa, calm down little lady. I'm surprised you haven't gotten slapped yet. In fact, I'm surprised no one has told you what you've been doing,” Kuronue stopped Keiko's tyrant.

 

“ Huh?”

 

“ Yusuke here has toushin blood. Toushins are naturally possesive and the males are always dominant in a relationship. So when Yusuke saw me, his toushin blood naturally reacted against an unknown male on his territory. Even though Yusuke doesn't actually think of you that way, it is subconscious. Second, when you start yelling at him, it is possible you could have triggered something in that would make him want to put you in your place, regardless of your race. So when Yusuke threatened me the first time, he was telling me to move away of my free will and I wouldn't get hurt. When you reacted as you have, you may have made the demon in Yusuke angry. And because toushins rarely can find an actual lover, they hold friends and family close to them. So even before Yusuke became a demon, I'm sure he was very possesive of you. It has merely been amplified now that his youkai blood is awake. Which means you'll have to be careful of you actions. While it is fun to watch him be put in his place, we don't need you hurt,” Kuronue explained to the human girl. Keiko's eyes were wide in understanding.

 

“ I'm so sorry Yusuke! I didn't mean to! I was just really, really worried!” Keiko said. I scratched the back of my head.

 

“ Ano…no need to worry about it Keiko. I knew you were worried. It was the slap I was waiting for,” I said sheepishly. Keiko giggled.

 

“ Now that would've been funny,” Kuronue leaned back. I scowled at the bat demon.

 

“ Let's see how long you keep that attitude once we're in a fight,” I gritted my teeth.

 

“ I'd be glad to spar with you if that's what you mean. I would have you on your knees after two minutes,” Kuronue smirked at me.

 

“ Yeah right. That's probably all talk,” Kuronue opened his mouth to retaliate but Yukina put a hand on his bicep.

 

“ Kuronue…” Kuronue sighed but relented.

 

“ Fine, fine, fine. But I still wanna spar,” Kuronue pouted. Yukina giggled.

 

“ Silly Kuro-chan,” Kurama's eyebrows shot up.

 

“ Blackmail,” Kurama smirked at Kuronue.

 

“ Listen fox, we have so much blackmail against each other there's no reason to threaten it, because I can go around telling your most embarassing secrets,” Kuronue told the kitsune.

 

“ Well, it was nice meetin' ya, Kuronue, but we should head home and get cleaned up. Sis knows I'm okay, but Kurama and Urameshi's mothers don't,” Kuwabara said.

 

“ Mother? Kurama? You have a mother now? She isn't like your other one is she?” Kuronue shuddered. Kurama rolled his eyes.

 

“ No, she's not like my youkai mother. Well, she's similar, but she's not as extreme,” Kurama said. Kuronue sighed.

 

“ Good. No crazy women asking when we're going to be mated and wanting to know every last detail of my life,” Kuronue sighed in relief. Yukina giggled.

 

“ Ne, Kuro-chan, don't say that. There are women here,” Yukina pointed out. Kuronue shrugged.

 

“ Anyway, Kuwabara's right. We should head to our homes before we meet up again at Genkai's. We just wanted to tell the girls we were alright,” I said. Hiei and Kurama nodded.

 

“ Well then. I'll see you four later. Ja,”

 

“ Ja ne minna!” The four girls called. We waved as we walked away.
