In his last year of High School, Kurama is transfered to Sakuraya High, where he meets Rem Eienmori, who is also his brother's martial arts teacher, and her odd group of friends, but while he tries to gain Rem's trust and affections, he also needs to help the rest of the Reikai Tantei find the last Dragon Riders before they are killed by Kain, another Dragon Rider driven mad by his own selfish desires, all in a race against time.

Chapter one; Of Dragons and Stories.

There are countless stories, legends, about dragons, unicorns, demons, gods and goddesses, angels, humans, and beings in between death and life, as Kurama had known.

But his favorite legends were about the Dragon Riders.

At the beginning of time, dragons, demons, humans, and many other mythological creatures coexisted with one another, one day, a young female human found a dragon's egg, she took it with her and raised the dragon that was born soon after.

The young female went with her dragon to the dragon's territory, where she met other 3 humans, 2 males and another female, they became the first Dragon Riders and the first humans to live among dragons, a necessary thing, when the link they shared with their dragons began to change them physically, gave them more strength, magical powers related to their dragon and high speed and agility, as well as advanced senses, but even with all of this, they remained human.

And with them 4, the Dragon Rider's race began.

They worked for world peace, helping all creatures that needed their help, but only if they were pure of heart.

But a fateful day, a Dragon Rider youth, too ambitious for his own good, took control over his own people, many joined him, and many fought against him, finally, after a long and bloody fight, all of the Riders were killed, and the remaining dragons, hatchlings and those who were left rider-less, vanished from the land, and without their protection, Unicorns and Pegasus became and easy prey for humans and demons, they disappeared soon after, the Phoenixes and serval other creatures followed them in a short while.

And so, only humans and demons remained in the world, then the barriers were created to separate the worlds, and that brings them to the present time.

It was a shame, that such legendary riders had disappeared, and in consequence, the dragons and the other creatures, it was sad to think that everything began because of someone's selfish desires and ambitions.

Somewhere in Makai. . .

Thunder tore through the night sky, rain fell in a downpour, but it was not normal rain, someone had discovered where the last of the Dragon Riders were and decided to kill them all by flooding the extremely huge valley they resided in.

3 dragons with their riders broke through the violent water, one was lavender in color, another silver and the last one was black.

The violet colored dragon's rider was a female, with deep purple eyes and golden brown hair, she was the youngest looking of them all, she wore a long sleeved tunic, light purple in color with 2 cuts on each side from her waist to the bottom, silver gloves, boots and dark purple shorts under the tunic.

The black dragon's rider was a male with short chocolate brown hair and deep blue eyes, he wore a short sleeved silver shirt and black pants with black boots and black finger-less gloves on each hand, a dark grey sash was tied around his waist, a single knot at the side and the ends fell to his knees.

The last one was another girl, she had long auburn colored hair and aquamarine eyes, she wore a long sleeved white shirt with silver pants, dark silver boots and dark silver gloves, a golden sash was tied around her waist, a single ribbon was at the front, the ends fell to her ankles.

" Where's Rem?! " The boy screamed to her companions over the wind, both girls shook their heads.

" She must have been caught inside by the tide! " The auburn haired girl shouted, her eyes were worried and filled with tears, like the other girl's.

As if on cue, a golden colored dragon broke through the water, in it's back was a shoulder long black haired girl with red high lights, her blue-green eyes locked immediately with the other 3.

She wore light green pants, and a tight short sleeved shirt with a high neck in the same color, over that she had a silver colored coat with black designs, long and wide open sleeves, black gloves, black soft and light boots, and an emerald colored tear-shaped pendant laid around her neck with a silvery cord, the other three had similar pendants, only in purple, black and white.

" Rem! Daijoubu ka? " The boy asked once the young girl was out of the water.

" Yes! I'm fine! We must return to Ningenkai, otherwise Kain will find us and kill us too! " Rem shouted to the other three.

The youngest of them all, the girl riding the purple dragon, looked at Rem, her eyes searching for answers, the Dragon Sage smiled at her.

" It'll be fine, Lilika, you can stay with me, my sister, my cousin and his family. " Rem said as they went through a portal, towards Ningenkai.

Rem looked back at the stormy sea that used to be her home for a very long time, her father had been a rider too, a Dragon Sage.

Her father, Ren, and his loyal dragon, Taiyou, were killed in a battle against Kain the heir to the Northern lands in Makai, 16 years ago, when she was only a year old.

Immediately after that, Ken had called her mother, asking her to bring her and her sister to the Dragon's Valley, to see which of the two of them was going to be their father's heir.

At first, everything pointed that Rina, her sister, was going to be their father's heir, she had a very strong aura for her young age and her telepath powers were very strong, while she had none, they had just to wait for Rina's dragon to be born.

But as soon as they stepped inside the temple, Shiken's egg began to shine, and when her hands touched the egg, four years later, it broke, and so, she became a Dragon Rider.

She was taught to fight, cast spells, use her magic, take care and communicate with Shiken when she turned 6 years old, it was then when she met Kay and Miharu, her friends, and a year later, she met Lilika.

For years she had led a double life, from Monday to Friday she was the studious and serious Rem Eienmaru, but in Saturday and Sunday she was Ken's Dragon Sage, teacher to those younger and less experienced then herself and Ken's constant company along with Miharu, the Ryuu no Miko, Kay, Ken's most trusted spy and Lilika, Ken's granddaughter.

But now that her second home was gone, she felt and overwhelming emptiness consume her being, with a last look towards of what used to be her second home, Rem faded inside the portal.

The Reikai Tantei entered the office of Koenma, the young ruler was a ball of shock, nerves and fear as he walked from one side to the other, George watched him worriedly.

The black haired grim reaper, Ayame, was holding a cup of tea in her pale hands, her serious eyes were locked within the green liquid, her expression was that of seriousness, but this time, there was a glint of sadness in her eyes.

" Koenma? " Yusuke asked, looking from him, to George, to Ayame, finding something all three pairs of eyes held, despair. " Is something wrong? "

" Yes, Yusuke, there is. " Koenma said as he turned to the TV, which turned on, what they saw was a very large lake.

" Why are you showing us that, Koenma? " Kurama asked.

" Kurama, you will most likely understand this better than all of the rest. " Koenma said, moving from the TV to the kitsune and back again. " What you see here, is the Dragon's Valley, or Draak Senke, as ancient civilizations in Makai called it, or at least, what was left of it. " Koenma closed his eyes as he sat in his chair. " Let me begin by the beginning. "

The young ruler sighed, and Ayame stood up. " Let me explain this, Koenma-sama " She spoke softly, Koenma nodded slowly.

" Makai is a very large world, even more than what you call Planet Earth. " Ayame began. " Reikai has control over this part of Makai. " A map of Makai appeared on screen, a bit more then 1/4 of Makai was colored in yellow. " This is the region Reikai controls, the remaining part is divided in 2 parts, the Northeastern part and the southeastern part. " The remaining part of Makai was split on 2 parts one in red, the other in blue, the red one was larger than the blue one. " The Northeastern part is control by no one, and only class A and S youkai live there, they have no desire to attack Ningenkai, that's why Reikai leaves them alone, the Southern eastern part is ruled by the ancient civilization that once were in the whole Makai, but retired to that hidden part of Makai, no one knows how big that part is, exactly, the creatures in that part of Makai speak serval languages, and are the only ones that still use the ancient language. " Ayame turned to the screen. " In that part, phoenixes, Dwarfs, trolls, unicorns, pegasus and elves live, no one, not even Reikai agents know how to get through the forest surrounding that part of the land, but they have been giving us reports about activities over there, this one, came from the elves. " Ayame made a slight pause, and her words were tinted by sorrow when she continued.

" 2 weeks ago, we received word that the last Dragon Riders were killed by Kain, a renegade Dragon Rider that we thought had been killed 600 years ago by the Dragon Sage, Ren, who was the most trusted friend of the leader of the Dragon Riders, Ken. " Ayame was cut short when Kurama and Hiei gasped.

" That's impossible!! " Hiei said, rising his voice a bit. " The Dragon Riders died in that battle, all of them died with Kain!! "

" That's true, they are nothing but legends now. " Kurama said seriously.

" That's where you are mistaken. " Came the voice of an aged man, they turned to the door, were a golden robbed man stood, his face was sharp, with elongated ears, his hair was arrow straight, silver as the moon itself, his eyes were as old as time, it seemed, but still as sharp and keen as theirs.

Next to him stood a woman, she was a lot younger, her face was delicate looking, as her hands and her slender body, her hair was long, and a light shade of blonde, her eyes were the color of pure amethyst, those eyes held wisdom and power, a tenderness never seen before in any other being also laid within.

She wore a long light green and white tunic, white sandals and a quiver of arrows and a bow across her back.

The two beings took Kurama and Hiei's breath away, before them, stood 2 elves, no one had seen them since the Dragon Rider's fall, 600 years ago.

" Sorry to have come inside like this, Koenma-sama. " Said the old man, bowing at the Reikai prince, who nodded, to stunned to speak, then the old man turned to the rest. " I am known as Toki, I am the king of elves, this is my grandchild, Selene. "

They all bowed while they looked at them with fascination clear in the eyes, until Koenma spoke.

" King Toki, Princess Selene, can you tell us where are we mistaken? " Koenma asked.

" The report we send you was vague, I was very sad and shocked to write a full report, because of that, I am now here. " Toki said, his voice soft.

" The Dragon Riders were indeed attacked by Kain, when they refused to help him take over the 3 worlds, completely. " Selene began, her voice soft and sad. " He killed them by flooding the valley at night, the coward didn't even give them a fighting chance. "

" That's what the report said. " Koenma said.

" We believe, that there is at least one rider left alive because Kain keeps searching around, and we caught word, that when he sent a water demon for the 2 eggs inside the castle, he found them gone. " Selene took a deep breath. " The door of the chamber they were in had a special spell, only the hand of one specific rider could open it, the hand of the Dragon Sage. "

" So, you are saying that the Dragon Sage, at least, is alive. " Koenma said.

" We can't be totally sure until we can get to the bodies of the murdered riders. " Toki said, his voice and face very serious. " The Sage, however, is a very stubborn person who can't die easily. " A smile broke through his serious face at this.

" We only ask this of you, Koenma-sama. " Selene pleaded. " Find whoever survived and returned them to us. They are...Like my own people. "

" We will do what we can, do not worry. " Koenma said determined.

It was the morning of the 16th day after they had escaped from Kain's attack; Rem opened her eyes, only to find big and shiny orbs staring back at her.

" Good morning, Shiken. " Rem said sleepily.

~Good morning, Rem.~ The Dragon answered as he flew towards her desk.

The once big dragon, the height of an elephant and quite longer than one, was hardly the size of a full grown cat.

~You'll be late for school, again.~ Shiken said, Rem stood up with a shriek and ran towards her closet, taking out some black pants, a black jacket and a button up grey shirt, she ran inside the bathroom, coming out fully dressed less then 5 minutes later, running a brush through her hair, tiding it up at the same time she placed her black sneakers on, she tied them up quickly and left with a quick goodbye to Shiken, who was back asleep on her bed, she ran to the kitchen, where Lilika was waiting for her, she grabbed some toast and both walked outside towards school.

They met with Miharu and Kay half way to the school.

" Our first day of our last year of high school, neat, ne? " Miharu asked, Lilika nodded with a smile, Kay only nodded and Rem mumbled something that sounded like 'finally'

" Cheer up, Rem! " Lilika said with a huge smile.

" As soon as this school year is over. " Said Rem as they stepped inside the school and headed for their first class.

They entered the classroom and a few minutes later, Mrs.Hanamishi, entered the classroom, everyone sat down.

" Mina-san, as you know, Sakuraya entered an academic program in which students are exchanged between High Schools, because of that, today we have a new student. " Mrs. Hanamishi turned towards the door. " Please enter. "

A red haired boy walked in, there were serval whispers from the girls, and Rem could not contain the urge to roll her eyes, Kay snickered next to her, Miharu had whispered something in his ear, which Rem could not understand at all.

" Well Kay. " Rem whispered to the English boy. " It seems you have competition. "

" He can get all the rabid fan girls if he wishes, Rem. " Kay said with a goofy grin.

" But you have to admit. " Miharu said, leaning towards Kay's table so she could see Rem. " That he is hot. "

" he might be. " Rem said looking at the new boy with narrowed eyes. " But there is something...Dangerous about him "

" Do you think he works with Kain? " Kay whispered to the Dragon Sage.

" I do not know, but we better be careful, because even if he's not working with Kain. " Rem began, looking at both of her friends. " Then someone else will. "

Their atention was brought back to the new boy when he began to speak. " I am Minamino Shuuichi, I come from Meioh High school, I hope we get along. " The Shuuichi boy said with a soft smile.

" There is an empty seat behind Rem Eienmori, where you can sit, Rem, could you rise your hand please? " Mrs. Hanamishi asked softly.

-Why me?- Rem wondered but raised her hand anyway.

~That, my dear Rem, is called bad luck.~ Came Shiken's voice inside Rem's mind.

-Shiken? What are you doing here?- Rem asked, slightly suprised.

~I was bored.~ Shiken answered easily.

-Whatever, just keep yourself hidden somewhere.-

~Hai.~

" Rem. " Called Mrs.Hanamishi.

" Yes? " Rem answered, dread curling around in her heart.

" Could you help Minamino-kun and show him around? He has the same clases you have. " Mrs. Hanamishi said with a smile.

-Great, just great, now I am stuck with Red here.- Rem thought with a sigh. " Of course, Mrs. Hanamishi. "

" Thank you, now, let's begin with today's class! " Mrs. Hanamishi said as she took out a math book, the rest did the same.

The rest of the day passed, and Rem was stuck with Kurama, until the class before Lunch, when he was called to Mrs. Hanamishi's office, now, Rem, Kay and Miharu waited for Lilika and Rem's cousins to arrive.

" We have the practice after lunch, right? " Kay asked.

" Yes. " Rem answered. " In the classroom in the last floor. "

" It has been so long since we practiced! " Miharu said with a soft smile in her delicate features.

" Indeed. " Rem answered.

" Oi!! Ryuu-chan! " Came a shout from somewhere, and the three friends moved their eyes to 4 figures, 2 of them were Rem's cousins, another was Lilika and the last one was a new boy with glasses.

Rem's cousins were 2 twins, a male and a female, the male had short black hair and deep blue eyes, his arm was wrapped around Lilika's waist, the female had long black hair tied in a high ponytail, she had the same eyes as her brother, she looked like a punk.

" Mai!! Mamoru!! " Rem shouted to them as she stood up, waving, the group saw her and headed towards her, they sat down and Mamoru turned to the new boy.

" Guys, this is Yuu Kaito, he was just transferred to our school. " Mamoru said.

" Konichiwa, Kaito, is a pleasure to met you. " Miharu said with a smile in her afce, Kay and Rem only waved with smiles.

Kay turned his eyes to the entrance of the cafeteria, where Kurama was, surrounded by a bunch of girls. " It seems Minamino is in trouble. " Everyone turned to where he was looking and sweat dropped. " Why don't you go and save him, Rem? " Kay asked.

" Might as well. " Rem said as she walked towards the sweat dropping Kurama and the bunch of rabid fan girls, an evil smile in her face.

" Why her? " Kaito asked.

" The rabid fan girl club is afraid of her since she broke their leader's nose. " Mai said with a smile. " She got a detention, of course. "

" Why? " Kaito asked.

" they were bothering Kay. " Mamoru said, pointing at the English boy. " Ryuu-chan got very mad. "

" I remember, her face was all red! " Miharu laughed.

" And her knuckles bloody. " Lilika said, a huge smile blossomed in her face at the memory.

Rem walked calmly to the bunch of fan girls and cleared her throat loudly, all of the girls turned to her and scrambled away in fear, all except one, the leader, Hirari.

" Sorry to ruin your fun, Hirari, but Minamino is coming with me. " Rem said calmly.

" Really? " Hirari said, turning to her. " I don't think so. "

" Wrong answer. " Rem smiled darkly. " Do you remember what happened last time you gave me that answer? " Rem said as she looked at her boredly.

Hirari paled instantly. " I have things to do, see ya later, Minamino-kun. " And she ran away.

" Well, that was easier than I thought. " Said Rem walking away, seeing that Kurama was not following her, she turned and said over her shoulder. " You coming or not, Red? " She asked.

Kurama nodded and walked after her. " Thank you. " he said softly.

" It was nothing, Red. " Rem said, not looking at him.

" Shuuichi. "

" Huh? " Rem turned to him, confused.

Kurama smiled at her, and Rem found herself fighting a blush. " Call me Shuuichi. "

" Ah...Okay. " Rem turned away from him.

Once back with the others, they sat down, Rem next to Kay and Kurama next to her and began eating lunch while talking with each other.

Well, here's another story of mine...

I get the idea to write this fic because of three main reasons, the first one being my undying love for dragons, second, because I have been reading Eragon, and lastly, because of my friend's nagging about a story with dragons in it, so there.

The ancient language is made up from 2 or more actual languages, so I didn't create it.
