I had never felt such sorrow. The pain ate at my heart like a cancer; my eyes were two pools of empty. As I dragged my body over to the motionless corps lying in the sea of blood, I tried to calm my thoughts. It would be alright, it had to be. Nothing had happened, all was okay.

I had met Hiei through and accident. I remember it very clearly. I was walking down Prew Street, it was late fall and the leaves were almost all gone, when I spotted him and his friends arguing in the middle of the street. The two boys facing me were both raven haired. The shorter of the two had hair that defied all laws of gravity, two ruby's for eyes, and a snowy white starburst on his head. He wore an outfit of mostly black; the only articles of clothing not black were hi headband and scarf. The boy next to him had his hair gelled back and smooth. His chocolate eyes had a fire dancing in them. His attire was a plain white T-shirt and torn blue jeans. Two red heads had their backs to me and I couldn't recognize any fine features. The boy to the right had long red hair whose tips reached the middle of his back. He looked to be wearing a purple school uniform. The other boys' hair was extremely short, and he was wearing a navy jacket and faded jeans.

 

I had been sensing a strange ki around this area and had come to investigate. Although I must admit that this strange ki wasn't the thing occupying my mind at the moment. All of a sudden the wind picked up and the four boys were flung apart. The one with long red hair flew against a street sign, the shortest one skidded across the road into a car, the other raven haired boy crashed through the Gates of Pineberry Park, and the last boy flew through a window, knocking over a glass display. If I had been paying attention I might have noticed the increase in ki power. They pulled themselves out of the objects they had crashed into and looked around in confusion. I watched as all their eyes trailed to me. Why me? I would never be able to do that so quickly. I watched as their eyes widened and one of them staggered back. That's when I noticed the unfamiliar ki, much stronger than before...and right behind me. The ki was so cold; the feeling crept up my back causing me to shiver. I slowly turned around and dropped my duffel bag. I would've screamed but my voice was not mine to control at the moment.

 

The creature was around eleven feet tall and a puke green color. Its nails were long, sharp, and curved like a hawk. I couldn't help but notice the rows of teeth that had freshly spilt blood on them. My eyes trailed further up and I braced myself to see two cold beady eyes back at me, but that isn't what I saw. I fact he had no eyes; just two empty holes. I could feel the blood draining from my face. I shakily glanced at the boys, their expressions mirroring my own. I brought my attention back to the creature standing in front of me. The saliva dripped from his mouth.

 

“Don't tell me this human is of some importance to you,” it snarled.

 

“Leave her out of this. She's of no importance,” the boy with long red hair said.

 

“If she's of no importance then you won't mind if I slaughter her,” it said in that cold voice. I was scared stiff. By now I realized that this had to be a demon of some sort. It was hard to believe. My thoughts were interrupted by a sharp stinging in my arm. I looked over to my right and found that the creature was pulling his nails down my arm. The pain was blinding and my voice wouldn't cooperate. I watched in horror as his hand left my arm... and reappeared through my stomach. His hand was coated in my blood, the scarlet water dipping onto the floor. I felt blood rush into my throat. I opened my mouth to scream but I found myself fighting for air, and coughing up blood. The last thing I saw before I collapsed was four people running to me.
