Hiei. The one with the black hair that stood up in air, defying all gravity.
Hiei. The one with the piercing red eyes that bore into your soul.
Hiei. The one who only wore black, save his bandana.
Hiei. The one you had fallen in love with.
You had been warned. Everyone had warned you, even Kio.
She had once loved him as well.
But why should you heed their warnings? You were different from them. They had no right prying into your personal life. No right at all. They acted like they knew you, and knew you well. As if.
You had no friends. And you didn't want any.
That day was still fresh in your mind. You had been staring out the window, as usual. Thinking. You were always thinking, thinking things no others dared to think, thinking things that were never thought....
Thinking the forbidden, thinking the unspeakable.
Thinking of him.
"Hey. You in there?" A hand waved in front of your eyes. You were brought out of your darkness, and deep thoughts of him. Hiei.
"Huh?" you said, looking slightly confused. You looked up to see Kio's smiling, pale face. Today, her black hair wasn't in its usual braid. Instead, it flowed down over her shoulders, gracefully, framing her face, making it seem paler. The scar beneath her left eye stood out more than ever. She was leaning over you desk, smile still plastered on her face. "Good morning." You smiled too. Mornings were so not your thing. Especially when you were at school. In the uniform, which was a navy blue outfit.
"Good morning to you too." She gave you a hard look. You knew she was watching you. You looked hesitantly up into her eyes. Those green eyes. Was it really just a few months ago since they had shone brightly? It seemed impossible. Her eyes must have always been dull, and sad.
"Thinking of him?" she asked in an undertone. You knew who she meant. Who else but Hiei? You nod slowly, not sure what she was suggesting. You hadn't told her you loved him.
You hadn't even admitted it to yourself those few months ago. She sat down in front of you, and smiled again. You winced. No matter how hard she tried, all she had was an empty smile. It killed you to see it.
She waved a knowing finger. "You're in love with him." She stated simply. You glared at her.
"Aren't you supposed to be in YOUR classroom?" you growled. You so did not like these romance talks. A blush crept up your neck. She smirked. "I will. You love Hiei." Then her smile faded. Kio's face turned serious. "My advice. Don't." You glared at her again.
"What?" She shook her head. "You can't tell me what to do. I'll love Hiei if I want to! No one tells me what to do; especially not some washed up girl who has an empty smile!" You snapped. Her eyes widened in shock, then went back to their normal size again. She got up. "I do have an empty smile, don't I? You will too, if you don't take my advice." You stayed silent. "It wasn't Hiei who broke my heart, it was someone else. But Hiei could do the same." She turned and was nearly out of the classroom, when she stopped. She turned her head slightly, so you could just make out the side of her face. Her bangs covered her eyes. A cynical smile appeared. Kio's hand rested on the door, ready to slide it shut. It was as if time had stopped. All you could hear was Kio's voice.
"Play with fire, gonna get yourself burned." With that, the door slid shut, and noise returned. You sat, staring at the door.
That was before she disappeared.
You were with the gang today. Minus Kio, of course.
It sometimes seemed like you were the only one who cared she had disappeared. Is this how she wanted it to be? To fade from everyone's memories? Cause she was doing a good job of it.
You rest beneath a tree as you break up from the gang. Keiko and Botan head to the nearest clothes shop, while Yusuke and the idiot head over to an arcade. Kurama leaves to meet someone.
Something told you it was he who made Kio leave.
But it didn't concern you. You rest your head on the tree. How long had you known them? Had it already been five years? Yet things had changed. Many. Change was good, but it still scared you.
"Hey." A cold, distant voice brought you out of your thoughts. You cracked open an eye to see who was bothering you. It was him. Hiei. He was staring coldly down at you, hands in pocket. "Come with me, girl." You nod, and get up, obeyingly.
Suddenly, warm arms wrap around your shoulders, and beneath your knees. You feel yourself get lifted, bridal style. Your face reddens immediately. "Hi-Hiei?" you cry, alarmed.
"Quiet, girl." He mutters in your ear. Next second, you find yourself flying through the forest. The cold autumn wind is made even colder as you rush through it. You close your eyes, ready for impact at any second.
But then you stop. You are dropped unceremoniously to the ground. You glare up at Hiei, then have a look around. You gasp.
"Wow....Hiei! It's so beautiful...." you murmur. And it was. (TNM: sorry, I got this place idea from "Twitch Twitch revised"). You were standing over a waterfall. It fell majestically to a lake below, and the mist went upwards, creating a rainbow (TNM: those things are dangerous! they rain little candies! [is hit with a spatula]). The water was crystal clear, but it seemed slightly sinister, reflecting the grey sky above. Suddenly, you found yourself pinned to the grassy floor. You stared up into red eyes.
"Er...Hiei?" You whisper. Tension was thick enough to cut with a knife. Your hands were pinned above your head by only one of his, and the other was nearing your face. It withdrew a bit, but then resumed it's path to your face. He whispered your name. Chills raced up and down your back. All time stopped. Nothing mattered but the both of you. Even the sound of the waterfall crashing into the rocks below made no sound in the silent dance in which Hiei was your partner. In a split second, the hand was gone, and his lips had replaced them.
"Ah!" You moaned, eyes opening. His skin burned, scalded. It hurt so much. You squeezed your eyes shut as his lips made their way to yours. His skin was burning you, burning, burning. But you didn't want it to stop. As much as it burned, you wanted it.
The burning was addictive.
"Hiei...." you managed to whisper before his lips claimed yours again. He stopped, and those red eyes looked into your own. They had a softer side to them.
"I....I love you." Those eyes continued staring down at you, this time uncertain. "Hiei?" He cracked a smile.
"I love you too." With that, he kissed you once more, and you were burning again. You needed it, but it hurt so much. It hurt badly. You needed the burn, but it hurt. You broke the kiss, and gasped for air. You felt sweat run down your face. "Hiei...? Why do you burn?" His bangs covered his eyes. "Hiei?"
"It is my curse. Whoever touches me...burns." You gazed at him, horrified, not wanting to believe it, but knowing it was true each second you were still alive. He wasn't touching you any more, so why did you still burn? You pushed him off you, and tears came to your eyes. But as soon as you cried them out, they turned to steam before you. It was unbearable. You screamed. Blinded by the steam caused by your own tears, you stumbled.
And then you were falling. Someone yelled out your name. The water cooled you off. Hiei, above you, was crying. Black jewels fell with you, as he reached a hand to you. "Hiei..." you whisper, "I still love...you..." With that you closed your eyes, and let the cool mist wash over you, cooling you. Just before you hit the rocks, two people's words echoed through your ears.
"Play with fire, gonna get yourself burned..."
"I love you..." Kio and Hiei's words played themselves, until you hit the rocks, and knew no more.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------T HIRD PERSON POV STARTING NOW------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------
Hiei stood up slowly. Shadows covered his eyes. A single tear fell, and turned into a black crystal before hitting the ground. He scrubbed at his eyes.
"I'm sorry.... I do love you.... I should never have let this happen...." With that, he turned his back, vowing never to love again, and never to come back..
