Recap:
He looked ahead at the trees. “Do you know there's a path back that way?” He pointed behind him.
Rose blushed. “No. But I came in this way.” She said, pointing to the path through the trees.
“Both ways lead back to the park, but I just thought that you might like to take the one least likely to get sticks caught in your hair.” He said, retrieving a small piece of bark from her auburn locks.
'He's thoughtful too! Sigh! ,' she thought absently, as he took his hand from her hair and tossed the piece of bark away.

Chapter 2: Suuichi's Path
Rose look to the ground, trying to hide the blush that she felt creeping up to her cheeks. “Thank you,” she said softly. She gathered herself back together and looked up at Suuichi. “I think I'd rather take the other path, if you don't mind.”
“Sure,” he replied and turned in the opposite direction. He stopped for a second and looked back toward her, “Rose, are you ready?” He held out a hand for her to take. She accepted it and they began to walk down the hill. She looked at him, admiring the curves of his face, when he suddenly turns to look at her. They blush, drop their clasped hand and look away from each other. ((oh...how cute! *gets rubber bands shot at her* Cease Fire, I'm stopping!!!!))
They walk on in silence, leaving space between the two of them, a blush still staining their cheeks. Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Hiei come into view as they continue to descend the hill. Hiei is the first one they see, sitting on a high tree branch, polishing a long sword she quickly identify as a katana. Kuwabara is sitting on the ground below, leaned against the tree and rubbing a visible bruise forming on his head. Finally, they see Yusuke, who is rolling on the grass, curled in a ball and laughing. Upon seeing she and Suuichi, Kuwabara sits up and attempts to stand.
He doesn't get far, however, when he trips on Yusuke and falls on top of him.
“Watch it!” Yusuke yelled, pushing the orange-haired boy off of him.
“Sorry, Urameshi. Look! Kurama and Rose are coming,” he said, pointing towards the two of you.
Yusuke stood up and walked towards she and Suuichi. “Hey guys! I thought you guys were leaving. What happened? Get lost?”
Rose blush ((Boy, she sure do blush a lot! *gets hit with random things* Hey! Shoes aren't suitable to be hurled! *assault continues* If he don't stop, I won't update! *assault stops* that's what I thought. Now on with the ficcy!)), but luckily, Suuichi stepped in on her behalf. “We decided to take the scenic route instead. I'll talk to you later, Yusuke.”
Chuckling, he replied, “Okay, Suuichi, have fun. Cya later Rose.”
They walked further down the hill, waving goodbye to both Kuwabara, who blushed and waved back, and Hiei, who looked away quickly. After more silence, she turned to Suuichi and asked, “Suuichi?”
“Yes?” He replied.
“Why did Yusuke say your name like that, like that's not your name or something.”
Suuichi paused. “Well, Suuichi is my name, but they don't usually call me that.”
“Oh.” She hesitated. “What do they call you, if I may ask?”
“They call me Kurama.”
“That's a different nickname.” Rose looked at the ground, trying to think of a reason why someone would call someone a nickname that didn't sound anything like their name.
“Yes, I guess it is,” he looked over at her; “Don't you have any odd nicknames Rose?”
She shook her head. “No. Not really. My cousin once called me Makoto, but I don't think that that would count in this case.”
“Makoto? That's certainly interesting.”
She nodded and remained quiet. She didn't really want to have to explain if she didn't need to, hoping that he would let the issue drop. He did and he both walked in silence when she finally saw the stone pathway. Something seemed different about this part of the stone pathway than the one that she was on before.
This part of the pathway had neat, organized gardens. The flowerbeds looked almost brand new, the flowers nearly sparkling in the sunshine. Her mouth opened slightly, awed at how beautiful the sight was. For some reason, she felt so at ease with this boy, not really caring that she had only met him a few minutes ago. He just had this way about him that made her feel at home. ((A/N: okay, this might be moving a little fast….but hey; it'll all work out right? *hides from the rubber bands*))
Finally, they reach the bend in the path that she had been on ((A/N: just so we're clear, she walked in a circle, okay?)) when she paused. Kurama stopped and looked at her. “What's wrong, Rose?”
“Nothing, I was just remembering where I came in. I wouldn't want to forget where it's at when I write back home.” she replied, making a mental picture for herself.
“Oh. Where's home for you?” He asked, suddenly curious.
“In the States. Cleveland, Ohio to be specific.” She looked away, lost in memories of her home and missing them a lot.
“How long have you been here?” he said, unintentionally pulling Rose out of her reverie.
“Only two days. I'm spending the rest of the semester here as an exchange student.”
“Wow, that's interesting. What school are you going to?”
“Um,” she paused suddenly forgetting the name. “I can't remember the name. I'm sorry.”
“That's all right. I'm sure things must seem different here than what you're used to.”
She smiled, grateful that she finally found someone who understands that she needed time to get accustomed to the different culture. As they continued to walk, suddenly becoming quiet, she looked again at the scenery. It looked somehow different this time than when she walked down the path earlier. The flowers looked as if they had blossomed more, especially the roses, which she could swear were almost pulsing with life. When the two of them reached the entrance of the park, he stopped.
“Which way is the home you're staying at?” Kurama asked.
She looked around, not exactly sure. “Um….”
“Whose home are you staying at?”
“Her name is Genkai. It's not exactly a home; I believe she lives in a temple.” She replied slowly.
Kurama's eyes widened for a second, and then he answered. “Oh. Okay. I know Genkai. I'll walk you home.”
“You really don't have to. If you point me in the right direction, I'll get there on my own. I don't want to keep you from getting home and seeing your mother.”
“It's really no trouble, Rose. Plus, I would worry if I didn't take you back for myself.” He said, reaching for her hand again. She obliged him and the two of them walked down the sidewalk, headed for Genkai's temple.
They walked in silence the entire way there, still holding hands when the temple came into view.
To say goodbye to Kurama now, go to chapter 4.
To wait and say goodbye at the temple, go to chapter 5.
