Not Such a Weakling Afterall
Chapter 4: End of the Battle and a Mission
“Urgh…what ran me over?” groaned Botan.
“ I do not believe anything has Botan-san,” said a soft voice above her.
“Hello Yukina,” said Botan smiling as she looked up at her friend.
The koorime's small face lit up in a smile.
“I'm glad you are awake Botan-san,” began Yukina pleasantly, “I'm sure the others will be just as glad. You were so very injured. You both were.”
“Both?”
The bluette gasped as memories flooded back into her already pounding head. Yukina looked on worriedly as Botan recalled the last seconds of the battle…
^*^^flashback^^*^
“Light of the Damned!!”
The light and dark fire twisted around them, burning their skin and singeing their clothes, they each felt their strength waning. Soon the energy faded and revealed the fighters amidst a mile of scorched, blackened earth. Hiei's shirt had been burned off (A/N: What? It's tradition!) along with his bandanna leaving his Jagan open to all. He had many burns and his ki had dwindled dramatically.
Botan was in worse condition. Her hair had burst from the ribbon that held it and hung limp around her shoulders. Her light blue gi was in shreds, only just clinging to her thin frame. Blood blossomed over her skin like fireworks. Neither were very steady on their feet but one knew the other had won…and was ready to admit it.
“Looks like hundreds of years of training,” began Botan, chuckling grimly, “still isn't enough to defeat the Forbidden Child. We both fought well. It was…a …privelage to… clash strengths with you, H-Hiei.”
The darkness then enveloped her and she thought no more.
^*^^end flashback^^*^
“How did you guys find me?” Botan asked, “We were pretty much in the middle of nowhere.”
“We didn't find you,” replied Yukina with a flicker of a mischievous smile, “My brother carried you back and left you in my care. The boys were in great distress for they thought you were attacked. Oniisan wouldn't say anything, though, so I was hoping you could tell us, Botan-san.”
Yukina looked at the bluette hopefully. No one could ever resist the ice maidens charms.
“Sure Yukina,” Botan said smiling, “I'll tell you and you guys can come in too. You don't have to wait outside.”
Yusuke and Kuwabara's heads popped up suddenly in the window, sheepish smiles gracing their faces. At Botan's beckoning they clambored into the room and sat in front of her.
“Where's Kurama?” the ferry girl asked.
“In the other room,” said Yusuke, “He doesn't believe in spying.”
“Well, actually,” answered a voice above them, “I am a thief and spying has proved useful in many past experiences.”
The kitsune was swinging from vines planted on the ceiling.
“Ki dampening vines,” stated Botan interestedly, “Good idea. Well, come join us at a more comfortable height Kurama. I'm sure we can make room.”
The red-head obeyed and soon they were all seated around the ferry girl like children waiting for a bedtime story, one of their favorites.
“So tell us, Botan,” began Yusuke seriously, “What happened to you and old three eyes?”
“Was it aliens?” asked Kuwabara suddenly.
“Don't be stupid,” scoffed the black-haired detective, “It was obviously zombies.”
“They were most likely ambushed by a few rouge demons escaped from Makai,” put in Kurama sensibly.
“Actually,” said Botan, amused by their assumptions, “Hiei and I were just sparring. He won.”
Everyone gaped at her, including Yukina.
“And you survived?” asked Kuwabara awe struck.
“I believe that should be obvious,” snapped Botan, “I actuall enjoyed fighting with him. Hiei doesn't hold back just because he's fighting me… like some people I know!” She glared at the boys. “I'll have you know I consider it an insult for people to believe I'm not strong enough to handle them. As you know I don't enjoy being insulted.”
“You three better run,” said a dark voice from the window, “When the ferry onna saw you were holding back she matched her power to your expectations. You haven't seen her fight.”
Everyone, except Botan, jumped and faced the window where Hiei sat smirking at them all. Then the fire demon turned to look at Botan. His gaze was amused.
“Good fight, onna,” he told her, “Get well so we can fight again. It's good training.”
With that he was gone. A ringing silence followed until Kurama burst out laughing.
“What is so funny, Kurama-kun?” asked a puzzled Yukina.
“It's just so unexpected,” he told them gaining control, “I understand that he began to like Yusuke during the saint beasts but this…I believe he's gained some respect for you Botan and you didn't even beat him. That is a feat.”
Botan beamed.
**Beep!**Beep!**
The group jumped as the bluette's communicator went off.
“Hi Koenma, sir,” chirped the ferry girl.
“Hello Botan,” greeted the toddler from the viewscreen, “Are the others with you?”
“Most of them. You just missed Hiei. Why? Is there another mission?”
“Yes, a rather complicated mission,”
The Tantei pressed in around her to stare at the prince.
“You have to go to a castle in Makai and retrieve an escapee from Underworl prison,” explained Koenma simply.
“Sounds pretty easy,” pointed out Kuwabara.
“It is,” reassured the small boy, “If it weren't for the 50,000+ demons fighting for him.”
Botan and the rest fell over and Yukina sweatdropped.
“That many?” gasped yusuke sitting up with the others, “How could he get that many? Is he that powerful?”
“No. Actually he's quite weak,” said Koenma, “He uses mind poweres to control his minions. Even that is very limited.”
“Let's go then!!” cried Yusuke jumping up, “I've been wantin' some action round here!”
“You'll need Hiei,” continued Koenma calmly, used to his employees' outbursts, “Using his Jagan he might be able to neutralize your target's control on his armies.”
“But Shorty could be anywhere!” whined Kuwabara.
“Then split up and search,” said their boss impatiently and the screen went black.
To make a long story short: They did. The team, after saying goodbye to Yukina, split up and each took a section of the city with Kurama and Botan searching through the forest. Botan was searching from the sky. Pretty soon the girl found a rather large oak tree taller and in a more secluded area than the others with a strange black shape in one of it's higher branches.
Botan flew her oar to the shape and sat down next to it, dematerializing her oar as well. The shape was indeed Hiei but he was sound asleep. The bluette gently reached over to place a hand on his shoulder.
“Hiei,” she said gently while shaking his shoulder lightly.
The demons katana was unsheathed in a second and at her throat while, startled by his reaction, Botan instinctively pulled out her dagger and placed the edge near the bottom of his ribcage ready to strike. As he recognized her and noticed the dagger a look of surprise flitted across his face before settling on it's usual cold indifference.
“What do you want onna?” he grunted, irritated, as they edged away and sheathed their weapons.
“We've been called to a mission,” she explained quickly materializing her oar and jumping on, “Have a seat.”
“Hn,” he scoffed, “I'm not riding that death trap.”
“Scared?” suggested Botan with a very hiei-like smirk.
The man growled and settled himself on the oar quickly with an arm around her waist. They set off at a fast pace and landed at Genkai's shrine only a few moments later. The rest of the team ambled out of the building soon after.
“Hey! You found him!” cried Yusuke, “`Bout time.”
“Let's get to Makai!” cheered Kuwabara, wanting to make a good show for Yukina who stood at the doorway.
“Just let me change,” said Botan.
She snapped her fingers and instantly changed from her kimono to jeans and a light purple tank top with a hood.
“Darn,” mumbled Yusuke, “I thought we were getting a show.”
“In one fluid motion Botan glared at him, materialized an energy hammer, and whacked him over the head with it as Kuwabara laughed.
“Idiot,” she muttered angrily and the rest of the team joined in laughing at their fallen comrade.

{I know!! Gay chapter! But it's better next one, promise. I hope you all were happy with the end of the battle and weren't confused about me changing Hiei's attack. Like I said I'm fickle. Well, if you liked it, review, and if you didn't like it…well, review anyway so I can laugh at your pitiful attempts at insults. ^____^
