Eikichi is a big cat. He walks around proudly, tail erect, looking like he owns the place. Nothing can faze him, for he is “Da Cat”; no one in the neighbourhood can beat him and everyone else better watch out, better not try to intrude on his territory. To insure that absolutely nobody dares he makes his round each day, presenting the picture of a wild and dangerous predator, hissing and spitting at all the other cats.
One day, on one of these rounds, Eikichi comes across a battle scene. A falcon is picking on a little sparrow, and while Eikichi usually thinks that all birds are to be driven away, out of his home, the little sparrow looks so sweet and helpless, he feels an ache inside and wants nothing more than simply protect her. Eikichi is a big softy at heart.
So, like a white knight in shining armour would chase away the fierce dragon and rescue the maiden, Eikichi chases away the falcon and saves the sparrow.
He carries her home and lays her down on his bed, poor thing. Exhausted as she is she does not protest but watches him with grateful eyes. He returns her gaze, protectiveness and a hint of something else shining through. A something, he notices, that she begins to feel, as well, when slowly, carefully he starts to clean her wounds, licking her as cats do. He cleans her dainty feet, her delicate wings, her sweet face, her whole body, and as he curls around her - lick, lick, lick - he can't think of anything he'd rather be doing now or in the future.

When Kuwabara wakes up, sneezing because a tail is being rubbed underneath his nose, he is entangled in his blankets and stumbles and falls while climbing out of bed. The bathroom is way too far from his own, he reflects, thoughts muddled, as he hurries towards some wet relief.
Back in his room, then - he has sprinted there, clad in a towel only since he forgot to take clothes with him, but really, who could blame him? - he pauses while dressing and his gaze lingers for a moment or two on Eikichi, who - seated on Kuwabara's desk - is licking his paws. Next to the cat, fastened to the wall with some tape, is the gift Yukina-san has given him, yesterday, out of the blue.
“It is beautiful, ne, Kuwabara-san?” That's what she said. And he smiled in response and said some words which might or might not have made sense.
“I… I would like you to have it.”
He sprouted only more gibberish in response, but she didn't seem to mind and gave him the coloured feather. He took it, thanking her, and now it is here and Eikichi sits right beside it and it's such a perfect picture. Fondly, he strokes first the cat, then the feather.
Yes, very beautiful.
