“The winning team of the first round is the Yuujou team!” Maomi screamed into her microphone, trying to be heard over the excited crowd. Your grin was the widest it had ever been in your life.

“One down, two teams to go!” you smiled, clapping your hand on Tsunake’s back, who had just stepped down from the ring. She refused to notice you. You really didn’t like her silent treatment. You took a deep breath. (Here goes...) “Tsunake, I’m sorry. I should have known that you wouldn’t lose. I guess I was just scared after my loss to Jesse and I didn’t want the same to happen to you.”

She looked at you for a silent moment, her eyes burning into yours. “Accepted.” she stated, walking out of the fighting atrium. You sighed happily and followed.

___

Your loss to Jenni had truly proven to you that you were weak. The other fights of the first round had taken place and the second round pairings were made. The team yours would be facing tomorrow would be the Nemuru Team and you definitely weren’t ready to face them. You had to train.

Alone, you jogged out into the forest, prepared to train until you collapsed. You found a large clearing and began to rapidly practice your punches and kicks. Your defense was pretty decent, but there was a major hole in your offense. After about twenty minutes of intense training, you took a different stance to practice roundhouse kicks, your right foot sliding backwards. Something brushed against your ankle.

You looked down in horror. Menaru, the leader of the Saikoo Team, lay dead on the ground. His body was literally torn to shreds. Though slightly disgusted at the bloody sight before you, you decided to investigate the surrounding area. It only took you about thirty seconds to find the remaining four members of the Saikoo Team, all equally disfigured.

As quickly as you could, you ran to get the others, who followed you back to the bodies. The word must have spread quickly, because no sooner than you had arrived, Naomi and Maomi ran into the clearing.
“Oh god...” Naomi uttered, looking quite sick. “This is out of our hands. I’ll inform the tournament officials.” With that, she ran off, leaving Maomi, who was picking Menaru’s nose with a stick. She noticed that Naomi had left and quickly ran to catch up with her.

“What do you think happened to them?” you asked more to yourself than the others. Hiei put his hand on your shoulder.

“I don’t know, but at least we won’t have to fight them.”

You nodded, turning away from the horrible scene. Standing up, you followed the others, already beginning to walk away. You were curious whether or not the murderer wanted the dead Saikoo Team discovered. Had you not been training, you would...

“Oh my god! My training!” you practically screamed, making Hiei stop in front of you.

“Training?” he asked, turning to face you.

“I was training for the second round when I found the Saikoo Team. I was going to train all day, but now I’ll never get it done!”

“Are you really that worried?”

“Oh Hiei, I lost in the first round. It’s only going to get harder from here! I’m going to die!” you said, grasping his shirt at the shoulder and growing frantic.

“I could help to train you.”

“It’s not going to be enough. I only have less than a day...” you sighed, deep in thought and worry. The slightest thought hit you. “Hiei... I want my memories back.”

“I won’t unblock them. It will be just like before and we can’t afford to have you unconscious for the second round.”

“Hiei, please. I won’t...”

“No.” he interrupted.

“Listen, Hiei. It’s either I deal with this or I die!”

“We’ll find another way.” he said, closing the argument. You sank to the ground and stared up at him.

“Just give them back. They’re hers, after all.” Tsunake’s voice broke out from somewhere behind Hiei. She must have been there the whole time. Giving you a light wink, she stepped right next to Hiei, who shot her a death glare. She glared right back, a look of confident determination across her face. Hiei looked from her to you, then back. Realizing she wouldn’t back down, he sighed.

“Fine.” he stated, taking off his headband and opening his Jagan. You saw it start to glow blue before your memories hit you, a sickening vision of blood. Through all the horrible things that you remembered doing to hundreds, maybe thousands of innocent people, was every fighting skill that you had acquired during your life as a demon. This time, you had to bear it, no matter how sickening.

___

You had finished seeing the memories of your past life, all 200 years of it. You had been left alone, there in the forest, suffering. You shakily stood and started to walk towards the Kubikukuri Hotel.

When you arrived at the hotel room, you quickly went into the bathroom. You weren’t sick, but you felt absolutely dirty, as if the blood of those you’d slain still covered your hands.

/How did I become you?/ a cool voice said in your head.

\Who are you?!\ you asked. The voice didn’t respond, but you definitely felt as if you were being watched. Turning on the faucet, you throughly scrubbed your hands under the warm flow of water. You wanted to feel clean, to not feel the slick blood between your fingers. You scrubbed and rinsed for possibly an hour. A noise at the bathroom entry made you glance away from your hands. Kaomi stood there, leaning against the door frame.

“You’re going to rub them raw, you know.” she said, nodding toward your hands, now bright pink from the heavy scrubbing. You stared into her eyes, remembering. She had been alongside you, helping to cause the death as well. Most of your memories were hers too.

“How can you not be bothered by all that we’ve done?” you asked her, finally turning off the faucet. She sighed.

[This part sounds really stupid to me, so feel free to laugh at my stupidity...]

“We are who we are. We caused those deaths one at a time. It’s like taking a pill. Each death is a dose. You just happen to be taking the whole prescription at once.” she replied. You thought about this for a moment and realized that she was right. She had experienced it all over a span of 200 or more years. You saw it in a few hours.

“You’re right.” you sighed, drying your hands.

“Of course I am.” she smiled, leading you to the main room where she and Tsunake had begun a game of cards.
