Prelude to Girl of Eternal Suffering
Episode 3
:::clack clack clack:::
Yukina awoke abruptly in the middle of the night covered in cold sweat. Her dreams another nightmare of her older brother. It had felt so real... She vividly recalled a blurred face- a boy being caught in a burst of light. She gasped and nearly broke into a fit of tears but she forced herself to stay strong. Yukina rubbed away the tears forming in her eyes as she went to her window and gazed out into the ningenkai streets below- still bustling even now with people in dance clubs and others racing about. She sighed.
Everyone in the Ningenkai always seemed so happy. She wondered if she would ever find the happiness they experienced daily. She turned to go back to sleep. when she felt a strange sensation. Her heart beat faster. It felt- so... so familiar. Something from the Makai she knew that. Somehow. She raced to throw on her kimono. She grabbed a pen and paper and frantically scribbled a note stating that she was temporarily returning to the Koorime village and left as fast as she could.

She reached an ancient mansion in the makai. It was an eerie building probably ages old. She shivered at the sight of it but willed herself to enter. She pushed the door inward and entered cautiously. A low hiss met her ears as a creature from the other end of the chamber began to cackle in a deep evil tone. Yukina drew back.
"Wh-who's there" she said in a shaky tone
A demon came out from the shadows bearing a crystal clear orb in his hand.
"Welcome, child" he said seemingly amused "you're just in time.”
And before Yukina could do a single thing the demon clenched the orb, causing her to collapse onto the floor in a heap of shivering pain. She hadn't had time to recover her composure before the demon was pulling her to the back of the house and binding her with cords that cut into her skin. She grimaced. The demon threw her to the ground. He pulled a thick piece of cloth from his robes to tie around her jaw and silence her with. There came the sound of the whining of the hinges on the heavy door. Yukina turned to look. It was Hiei! Yukina was bewildered and confused but remained still and silent.
"Aaa...he has come."

Yukina had been listening in on their conversation slowly wiggling free of her bindings. The comments swiftlt came to blows and Yukina gasped as Hiei was being thrown to the ground. Then the demon gave a shout: "Then you'll die with your sister?!!"
Yukina gasped as all the pieces began fitting together in her mind. He was always, always there to protect her even though he always claimed to be looking for her brother. It all made sense why she felt the way she did around him. She was dazed and overjoyed at the knowledge but now wasn't the time for her to stand there as there came a flash of light from the demon. She turned to Hiei. He was on the ground struggling to his feet. He was badly injured he wouldn't be able to get up in time. Even Yukina could tell that much
She made her decision in an instant, instantly gathering all her strength. She felt the ice forming in her hands and raced into a room.

"Oniisan!!" Hiei heard the sharp cry and turned to see a blurry form running toward him. It took him a moment. What was it he heard? Then he saw it- the icy blue kimono and sea green hair.
Yukina!
He stared hopelessly as she raced in-between him and the kai blast conjuring up a wall of ice.
No! She wasn't strong enough! There was no way she would survive but would he be able to…?
And then it happened all at once; the wall shattered and the light hit her squarely in the stomach. She stumbled backward, trying her hardest to remain strong and standing. But to no avail. It seemed to take her an eternity to fall but it took Hiei only an instant to react. He suddenly found all his strength and before she hit the ground he caught her. Her pulled her close, resting her head gently on his forearm.
"Why are you-? How did you-?" Hiei began
"Oniisan..." she said weakly placing a soft cold hand on his cheek. "I... I finally found you..." She smiled and shut her eyes in contenment.
"Yukina!" he cried managing to find a voice "Stay awake!" he shook her lightly and a small hand dropped to the floor. She remained motionless and silent. He shook her again as her blood began to seep through her kimono. Hiei's entire body froze, his blood growing cold. Realization swept through him like the most terrible Tsunami. He had failed her. His sister lay dead in his arms at that moment and now, nothing could be done to reverse the circumstances.
He slowly and gently lowered her to the ground and stood up, his eyes closed under the shadow of his hair line. He shuddered as moisture formed in his eyes and black beads fell, :::clack clack clack:::, to the ground. His Jagan glowed as brightly as ever.
"Jaouh Ensatsu Kokuryuuha!!" Was the only sound before the demon had become nothing more than a pile of ashes. He fell to his knees and slowly crawled to Yukina his eyes still watering. His whole consciousness was now maimed with denial and guilt.
"...Please... forgive me..." he managed to mumble before everything went black.

When Hiei awoke, Yukina was gone. He leapt to his feet, frantic as everything came rushing back to him, crashing over him like a terrible waterfall. It took him a while before he came to a resolute conclusion and the deepest of promises to his younger sister. That name, Yugure. The one the demon referred to. The other was dead already but now- he would find this Yugure and have his full revenge for Yukina's death. He swore this to himself.
I won't give up he thought coldly not until Yugure is dead.
