Chapter 3 - Fights, Forgetfulness, and Fevers

Someone stepped out from the shadows engulfing the trees. "Yeah right." Yusuke said confidently "You must be Drake."

"What was your first clue, Sherlock?" Drake said sarcastically. Yusuke bristled and attacked him. Kiara and I slunk into the woods, changed into our human forms and crouched in the brush, watching. Yelling, Yusuke raced towards him with fist cocked. Easily Drake blocked his punch and returned it with one of his own, sending Yusuke backwards about 20 feet before sliding to a stop. Raising his arm, Kurama flicked his wrist at Drake, the Rose Whip appearing and flying towards him. Bringing his sword out and up, Drake caught the Rose Whip with his sword and yanked it out of the surprised Kurama's hand. Drake's arm came up and a modest size fire ball was flung from his palm, hitting Kurama before he could dodge, sending him backwards into Kuwabara. Both slumped against the stone they were tossed onto. Yusuke regained his feet and glared at Drake. Drake noticed this and smirked. Yusuke gasped and he looked around, searching for his opponent who reappeared behind him. A fist to the head laid Yusuke out on the ground, unconscious.

Sighing, I shook my head. "Shall we go help them?"

"They're supposed to be the best fighters around? I'm not impressed." Nevertheless, Kiara drew her sword along with me, and dashed out of the forest. Catching Drake by surprise, my sword drew a line up his side. Jumping backwards, he spun to face me.

"Well, well, the fox girls. I was wondering when you'd show up."

"We got bored," I said, bringing up my sword and running towards him again. Our swords met in a clash of steel.

"You've gotten better," he taunted. "Last time you didn't even draw your sword."

"Is that how you defeat people?" Kiara said. "Yak, yak, yak. You must bore them to death." She raised her sword to attack, but Hiei appeared beside her.

"It seems that she has it under control, why don't you just let her handle it," he said.

"Show's how much you know, she's nowhere near strong enough- oomph!" Kiara was tossed into Hiei by an attack that landed much too close for comfort. "See, I told you, oh, you're unconscious."

"Hey, if you're done talking to yourself, I could use some help!" I said as one of Drake's sword thrusts hit its mark on my side.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming."

"You're pretty good for a bunch of animals," He taunted us, holding his wounded arm, his good arm still gripping the sword. Baring my teeth, I growled fiercely.

"Well, the way I see it, you're the one who's hurt and we're the ones who have the upper hand," Kiara snarled at him, hatred strongly coloring her voice. Drake's face twisted into an ugly snarl.

"You and your pathetic human friends will pay for this!" he said as he turned and ran off. Kiara and I sheathed our swords and turned our attention the injured and unconscious boys. We picked Kurama and Hiei off of Kuwabara, and we put Kurama a little ways off so we would have room to work on the others who were more injured then he was. Kiara went and found Yusuke about 20 feet into the woods, sprawled at the base of a tree.

When she got back I said, "We have to get them back to Yukina so she can heal them."

"I have some healing powers, should I try?" Kiara asked. I looked at her and nodded. She knelt down next to Kuwabara who was hurt the most and put her hands on his chest. A soft, green light came out from her hands and the wounds closed, but he didn't wake up. She finished with him and moved to the others, with none of them waking up.

"Good job. You take Kuwabara and I'll take Hiei and Yusuke." I told Kiara, she nodded and picked up Kuwabara. Picking up Yusuke I slung him over my shoulder. I then picked up Hiei held him in my arms. Going as fast as we could with the boys, we started off towards the hotel. At 3:00 AM next day Hiei stirred. "Hold up." I called to Kiara. Accidentally knocking Yusuke off my shoulder, I placed Hiei on the ground. Hiei opened his eyes, stood up, and shook his head to clear it.

"Who are you guys?" he demanded, scowling and crossing his arms.

"Friends, but we can't stay here, we need to go." I quickly answered. I picked Yusuke back up and left, not even bothering to check if he was following. Around lunch we stopped and ate, well, the ones who could eat ate, and then we continued on. At 7:00 A.M. of the second day we arrived back at the hotel. I walked up to the door and went inside. I heard a noise from the bedroom and Keiko walked out into the kitchen. She looked at us holding Yusuke and Kuwabara, confused.

She glanced around and said, "Where's Kurama?" she asked.

Dropping Yusuke onto the table I looked over at Kiara. "Don't look at me," she said.

"You were supposed to get him!"

"No, you were!"

"How could've I carried him?! I was already carrying those two!" I pointed at Hiei and Yusuke. I went flying out the door and ran back to where he still was, or, at least, where I hoped he still was.

Around lunch Kurama slowly woke up and looked around. Why am I still alive? What happened? Where in the world is everybody?! He thought. A movement caught his eye and he looked over as a silver kitsune girl came flying into the clearing. She looked at him and exclaimed in relief, "Good, you're still here!"

I was so relieved to see him still there. I moved over and extended my hand to help him stand up. He grabbed it and I pulled him up. "Come on, we need to get back to the others." "What happened to Drake?" Kurama asked me. "He ran off." I gave him some food and turned and headed towards home. He gave me a puzzled look but followed.

Two days later, we arrived back at home, and went inside to find Yusuke and Kuwabara awake and doing fine. I turned to Kiara to tell her we should leave. "Come on, we should…" I stopped mid sentence the room had begun to spin. We should…" I tried again. Blinking, I looked at Kiara, who was fading in and out of focus. I tried to clear my head by shaking it a little, but this only made in worse. I could feel my legs get suddenly weak and then I got the sensation I was falling. My legs gave way underneath me and I fell backwards into a surprised Kurama, who barely caught me. "I don't feel so well any more". I was glad he had been there to catch me. "What's wrong with me?" Kurama gently lowered me to the ground. I could hear them all talking amongst each other but they sounded distant, like they were at the end of a tunnel. I couldn't make out what they were saying very well but I did catch some things. I could still see but everything was fuzzy. I could tell Kurama was kneeling next to me on the ground by his red hair. He was trying to get my attention by slowly waving his hand in front of my face. "Is she in there?" Yusuke questioned.

"I think so." Kurama replied but he didn't sound too sure. "Let's find out." He shook me gently. "Hey, are you ok?" I heard him but was too disoriented to answer him.

<I'm lying on the ground trying not to pass out and he's asking if I'm fine. Tell him sure, just dandy.> She snickered at my sarcasm drawing attention to herself.

"Oh yeah, she says she's doing just dandy." She said in the same sarcastic tone I had relayed the message to her in.

"How do you know what she said, she didn't say anything?" Yusuke said sounding completely baffled. Everybody else was giving her a weird look like the one that adorned Yusuke's face. Finally I gave in and the room faded and then went black.

After they put me in the spare room, they went out and sat in the living room. It was quiet for a while and then Yusuke asked the question that was on everyone's mind. "How did you know what she said?"

"We're telepathic, but on a different lever than Shorty over there," Kiara answered, jerking her thumb at Hiei. Hiei crossed him arms and glared at her. "He can't read our minds or hear us talking."

"Oh." Yusuke said, looking a little less baffled.

"So, who are you two exactly?" Kurama asked. Everyone looked at her, waiting for an answer.

"That's our little secret, Kurama." She teased him. "All you need to know is that if you need help, we'll be there."

"How do you know my name?" Kurama asked suspiciously.

"I know a lot about you, about all of you." She smirked.

"How?" came the chorus from all of the boys but Hiei.

"I have my connections." She said as she pranced down the hall to check on Myst. `Mainly me and Myst.' she thought to herself

<You awake?> she asked me, hoping that I was.

<Depends> I replied groggily. <If awake means able to move, then no, I'm not awake.>

She laughed, shook my head and said, <get some sleep loony bin.> with that she got up and left. She made her way to the living room where the boys still were. "Is there anywhere where I can sleep?" Kurama nodded and showed her to the other spare room. Lying down, she quickly fell asleep.

The next day around 5 o'clock I opened my eyes and stretched, wincing at the pain in my back and side. I still didn't feel 100%, but I was better. I looked around and found the room empty and silent, with no noise coming in from the other rooms. <Kiara! Where is everyone?> I yelled in my head. I heard a crash from the room next to mine and soon Kiara came stalking it, looking like she had just gotten up, which, in fact, she just had. Crossing her arms, she glared at me.

<What do you want your highness.> she said sarcastically. I put on a pouting face.

<I just wanted to know where everyone was.>

<They went out to buy some dinner. Anything else?>

<Yeah, could you heal me?>

<Heal you? You're hurt?> I nodded and showed her my side and back. She shook her head and came forward and healed me.

<Thanks. We need to go before they get back.> Kiara nodded and we left a note on the table thanking them and telling them that we would meet again. We stayed in the wood close enough to see when they got back. When they did we changed into our fox forms and ran over, barking to get their attention. They smiled and petted us.

"So, you finally decided to come back." Yusuke teased us. Kurama gave us an unreadable look but then shook his head and smiled. We looked at him, then ran inside. They all shook their heads and followed us in. When we got inside, they started to look for us in our human forms, but only found the thank-you note on the table. "Man, I really wanted to know who they were." Yusuke whined.

"Yeah, they seemed really nice." Keiko agreed. Me and Kiara looked at each other and shared a secret smile.

Two days later we left once again to try and find Drake, but this time we went in another direction then we had the last two times. On the second day we found a demon leading a speckled gold fox on a chain. The boys walked up to him to talk to him.

<Oriana? Is that you?>
