::Thoughts::
Song: Bring Me To Life by Evanescence.
Hikaru's deep jade eyes flickered open, blinking slowly as they adjusted to the bright sunlight that shone down onto him. ::What happened? I thought I was dead for sure. That fighter…she was incredibly powerful, yet so familiar.:: Suddenly the teenage boy felt a slight pressure on his lap, and, looking down, was greeted by the small figure of the figure, lifelessly lying on him, pools of long brown hair cascading around her angelically. His eyes widened. ::Only one person has that hair!::
"Fuyumi!" He shouted while grasping the smaller girl and shaking her, trying to make his old friend awaken. "Wake up! Wake up!"
A firm hand grasped him by the shoulder, and, turning his head around, Hikaru was greeted with the sight of his teacher's face, shaking his head. "No. She will awaken in her due time. Now we just have to patient until then. But maybe you can clear up some things about this strange girl," said Yusuke calmly (A/n: He's older now, so not as spunky and wild as he is in the show. ^_^ just to clear that up for you guys)
Hikaru nodded. "Her name is Sayami Mitchelson Fuyumi, and she was my friend ever since we were little kids. Eventually we began to get very close, and I fell in love with her."
"I'd say she did as well," interrupted Kurama.
"Yes, I think she did as well. About three years ago I sort of confessed my feelings for her, and she did too. I was so stupid! I just walked off! I should have stayed with her," Hikaru said while bending his head to try to control his tears.
"Why? What happened?" asked Yusuke.
"She…that night. She disappeared. The neighbors called me at around 8, a few minutes after I got home from the local arcade. They told me that Fuyumi's house had been broken into, and that her parents had been murdered grotesquely and Fuyumi was gone. Once I got there, there were cops everywhere, and no one could tell me anything more. I still blame myself. If I had been there, maybe it would have been different. About a month after that you found me and started training me."
Yusuke nodded, remembering the state that Hikaru had been in when he had first found him wandering the streets, drunk, and weeping. He hadn't asked any questions, just took him to Genkai's temple, which the deceased psychic had left to him and Kieko.
"Wait. Sayami Mitchelson Fuyumi?" Kurama suddenly asked.
Hikaru looked up at him, blinking. "Yes. Why? Have you heard of her?"
Kurama's features grew solemn. "Hai. How could I ever forget that mission. Koenma called in Hiei, Kuwabara, and myself to respond to a rescue mission of a kidnapped girl. Her name was Sayami Mitchelson Fuyumi. The report that Koenma gave us was that a powerful slave trader, Akito, had had two of his henchmen murder the girl's parents and then kidnap her. That was the last mission that we had with Kuwabara still alive. Akito ambushed us, and we got separated from Kuwabara. When we finally defeated them we found Kuwabara's body."
Hiei looked down. "We should have been ready for any attack. We should have! And now…"
"And now the stupid bastard is dead," finished Yusuke, who still mourned the lost of his friend and blamed himself for being too busy training his new apprentice to take the time to join his team mates on that mission.
Hikaru looked at the sleeping girl in his arms. "So. That is what happened to him. I…I never knew. Please. Don't tell her that. She doesn't need to know."
Yusuke nodded. "No she doesn't. Can you carry her?"
A brief nod was Hikaru's only response.
"Good. Then lets take her to our room. Maybe then she will wake up. And besides, if you were knocked out after saving an old friend wouldn't you rather wake up in a nice hotel room than on the ground at the stadium?"
*Four hours later *
Fuyumi sat straight up in her bed. ::Am I…alive?:: she looked down at her hands, testing them against the bed. :: Well, that's a good sign. I don't move through bed sheets. Wait. Bed sheets?! Where am I?!::
The door opened slowly, and in came a dark figure. Fuyumi tried to get up to assume a defensive stance against the stranger, but found that she was too weak. The stranger walked into the light, revealing a red mane and green eyes. Kurama smiled kindly to the glaring girl in the bed. "Don't worry. You're safe now. I must admit, I don't exactly know how you are alive, after all the life energy you gave to our new Tantei. Speaking of which, I should send him in. He hasn't stopped passing since we carried you back here."
Before Fuyumi could open her mouth to ask him what the hell he was talking about, he was out of the room and Hikaru had replaced his presence. Fuyumi looked down at the sheets. "I…"
Hikaru suddenly was sitting on the bed in front of her, hugging her tightly to him. "Don't be sorry. Neither of us knew. I missed you so much," he said sadly.
Tears began to flow down Fuyumi's pale cheeks. "I missed you too. You have no idea how many times I dreamt of you and wanted to come back."
"Where were you for all these years?"
"I think that your friends will want to hear this too. Could you…?"
Hikaru looked confused for a moment, and then understood. "Oh! Yeah, sure," he said while picking her up from the bed, as she was still too weak to walk.
Wrapping her smaller arms around his neck, she softly kissed his neck. "You have no idea how long I've wanted to see you again," she whispered.
"Oh I think I do."
They came out of the bedroom, which was actually Hikaru's, and into the parlor where the three members of Team Urameshi were sitting on the couches. Well, two of them anyway. Hiei was sitting on the window ledge as usual.
Yusuke snickered as the couple entered the room. "Awww you two are so cute together," which caused him to receive to sets of eyes shooting death glares at him, causing him in turn to cringe away slightly, Kurama whistle softly, and Hiei to glance at the two with astonishment.
"Um…just kidding?" said Yusuke sheepishly.
Fuyumi rolled her eyes. "Oh great. Another Hikaru to deal with. Just what I need."
Kurama laughed and Hiei chuckled softly. "She sounds like Hiei!" said Kurama, laughter still ringing melodiously in his voice.
"I'll take that as a compliment," retorted Fuyumi as Hikaru sat down on one of the couches, keeping her in his lap.
"Ooooh! How come you and Hiei don't do that Kurama?" asked Yusuke, feigning innocence, and failing miserably. This comment earned a hard slap on the back of the head from Kurama, a punch in the face from Hiei, and the laughter of Fuyumi and Hikaru.
"You'd think he'd have learned by now not to make fun of us," said Hiei, annoyance shooting from his mouth.
"Really. It's so…juvenile," agreed Kurama.
Yusuke suddenly became serious. "Ok that's enough. Now we need to be serious again. And that means no more killing me!"
The other four people in the room chuckled.
"Ok. Fuyumi is it?"
The girl nodded shortly.
"Well. Would you like to tell us what happened after you were kidnapped by Akito?"
Fuyumi's sea blue eyes widened. "How…"
"Surely you didn't think that Rekai had no knowledge of your capture?" Kurama replied to the shocked girl.
"Well…actually, yes I thought that. After all, no one bothered to rescue me now did they?"
The men looked sideways at each other, and this action was noticed by the girl but ignored.
"That doesn't matter for right now. Just tell us everything that happened while you were in his custody."
And so Fuyumi told them of everything that had happened to her over the past three years of her life, from her first day in Akito's stronghold to that day. Hikaru's grip on her arms tightened almost painfully as she told of the first time Akito took her, against her will, under the threat to kill her and all dear to her who were still alive in Ningenkai. She told them of the brutal training that Akito had forced her to undergo after the first year she had been at his stronghold, and how after a year she had become his number one fighter.
"Did you discover that you were a youkai while in Akito's training?" questioned Yusuke.
Fuyumi shook her head. "Iye. Today was the first time that I transformed. It was as much of a surprise to me as it was to Akito and everyone else watching in the stadium."
"You mask surprise very well," commented Hiei.
"You have to be able to hide your emotions if you want to live in Makai. Surely you know this, being a youkai yourself."
"Hai. We all know. It's just that ningens usually don't mask emotions that well," answered Kurama.
"Well, I'm not fully human now am I?"
Suddenly the hotel door opened, and the ruler of Rekai himself entered, followed by his bubbly blue haired assistant. "Is she awake?" Koenma questioned.
"No. She's just sitting here and talking to us in her sleep. Obviously she's awake you toddler," retorted Yusuke sharply.
"Now Yusuke! Is that anyway to talk to your boss? Really. Such manners!" said Botan while shaking her head.
"Konnichiwa Fuyumi-chan. I am Koenma-sama, ruler of the Rekai. It is a pleasure to meet you," said Koenma politely.
"The pleasure is mine," replied Fuyumi with equal politeness.
"So toddler breath. Did you find any more information on how she could be a demon without your knowing?" Yusuke asked.
"As a matter of fact yes. We did find a way that her existence could have been overlooked. Have you ever heard of Soul Children?"
Yusuke looked confused at him. "What the hell are those?"
"I think Hiei and Kurama can inform you on that."
Hiei and Kurama both began blushing. "You mean…" questioned Kurama.
"Hai Kurama."
Fuyumi looked from Hiei and Kurama's happy faces and Koenma. "What the hell is going on?"
"Yeah really! I'm lost," echoed Hikaru.
"So am I! Ok you two. Spill. What did you do?" said Yusuke.
Kurama sighed. "This is rather complicated to explain, but I'll try. To summarize the whole definition, a Soul Child is when two demons that are either sworn to chastise, or are prohibited from reproduction due to other reasons, but desire a child non the less. In this case the two lovers will undergo a very intimate ritual in which their very souls give up small bits and pieces to create an entirely new soul. Once the soul is completed it flies into the unborn fetus, which does not have its own soul yet, and therefore the child is born. This process is, of course, strictly monitored by Rekai so that the child can be returned to its true parents."
"So you and Hiei did this?"
"Yes. But Koenma, being the incompetent ruler that he is, lost track of our created soul. We've been looking for it since then," answered Hiei bitterly.
"Hey! I had a lot of paperwork to do! It got mixed in with the rest! It wasn't my fault! Blame George or someone!" said Koenma defensively.
"And I'm assuming that the toddler over there found that missing paper today?"
"Yup. And it explains a lot about this young girl's abilities. Fuyumi, you are the Soul Child of Kurama and Hiei."
"Well that does explain why she is at least part demon, and why when she transformed she was a black youko with a jagan," commented Yusuke.
Kurama moved so that he was in front of Fuyumi, who was still in shock over this news. "I know that this must be very hard for you. You barely know us, but could you please give us time so that you can know us and in time love us?" the fox asked rather desperately.
Fuyumi looked at him. "You mean…you're in a sense my long lost parents?"
Kurama nodded. "Yes, you could put it that way."
"So…I have a…a family again?"
"If you will accept us," Hiei said from behind her.
Fuyumi looked from the smaller fire demon to the red head human that stood in front of her. Getting up shakily from Hikaru's lap, she stood in between them. "How could I not accept you as my family! A family. A family that is always together, always there for me when I call for them. If that is what you are telling me that I can have than how can I not accept!"
"You mean…you will be our daughter?" asked Kurama.
"Of course! A family that is there for me is what I've always wanted."
Kurama and Hiei cried out joyously and hugged each other and their newly found daughter.
The others in the room watched with happy smiles spread across their cheeks as they watched the newly found family join together in a group hug. Botan sighed. "Such a happy ending! It just makes you want to cry doesn't it?"
"You have to be joking."
Everyone looked at Koenma. "This is only the beginning! Fuyumi, seeing as you are the Soul Child of Kurama and Hiei, as well as the friend of a Rekai Tantei, I have another proposition for you. Would you join this team as a Rekai Tantei?"
Fuyumi smiled. "Of course! If you hadn't said it now I would have asked you, and if you said no I'd go on the missions anyway."
"Well then. Now that this is all settled I'm going to go back to Rekai. My dad is going to kill me for not doing my paper work!" Koenma said behind him as he walked out of the hotel room.
Just as he left the door opened a second time and in came a member of the Tournament Committee. "Is the Masked Fighter from Team Yami present here?"
Fuyumi stepped forward. "Hai. What do you want?"
"I am here on the behalf of the Tournament Committee. We would like to congratulate you for your amazing win today, and would like to also remind you that you are to receive your wish tonight promptly at six. We will see you there," said the woman. After this was said she turned and left as quickly as she had come in.
Hikaru looked at Fuyumi. "What is your wish going to be?"
"I'm not going."
Hikaru's eyes widened. "Why not?"
"I have nothing to wish for."
Kurama smiled at her and put his hand on her shoulder. Fuyumi sighed and looked out the window. A rainstorm had blown in while she was asleep, and the rain drops could be seen through the glass panels of the window.
"I have everything I've ever wanted. Once my team won the Tournament I was going to ask the committee to free me from Akito, and then I was going to take the next boat out of this cursed island and go home. From there I was going to try to find you. But now I don't have to. I've found you, and I have a new family. I have everything I've ever wished for and more. Now there is nothing that the committee can give me."
Hikaru smiled, and pulled the girl into another embrace.
*Rekai *
An orange ogre burst into Koenma's office. "Koenma-sama! Koenma-sama!"
The toddler ruler looked up from the stack of papers that he had been stamping. "Hai?"
"Koenma-sama! We have an emergency! This just came in from the ferry girl reports. There have been over fifty deaths in the past two weeks in just one section of Tokyo alone! And all the victims have identical wounds on their necks!"
Koenma grabbed the report and read it hurriedly. "Do you have a picture of the suspect?"
"Hai."
An instant later a picture of a pale man with pale red eyes and silver hair showed up on the giant screen in front of Koenma's desk. "Do you have any background on this man?"
"Hai. His name is Ishidoko Kenji, and he was supposed to be dead over three hundred years ago."
Darkdemonchild: Tehehehehehe ^_^ what is this? Could this be another cliffie? ^_^ ok it's a bad cliff hanger, but that's ok! All you need to know is this: There is now another conflict! Who is Kenji? And how come he isn't dead? Bet ya didn't guess that Fuyumi was Hiei and Kurama's daughter. Actually you probably did. But that's ok! I bet you didn't know how, so that works. ^_^ I promise that I'll update soon, cus Kenji is, by far, my favorite male character of my own creation right now. I even drew a picture of him! Did I do that for Hikaru? Nope! ^_^
