Chapter 6: Curious, Is The Fox

“Hello, Kurama. You wanted to speak to me, why?” Koenma asked the emerald-eyed demon. Kurama had shooed his three comrades out of the main room so that he could speak to Lord Koenma alone; which is also why he put a plant that deafened the three of his and Koenma's voices.
“I need to talk to you about Neka.” Kurama began directly.
“What about her?” Koenma asked.
“When we spoke earlier, you almost said “cousin” while referring to Neka.” Kurama told the Rekai Prince. Koenma gulped.
“A-a-are you sure?” he stuttered.
“Koenma, sire, do you and Neka share a bloodline?” the spirit fox inquired. Koenma stared nervously into Kurama's accusing green eyes.
“I guess I've been caught, haven't I?” he surrendered. Kurama, in all truth, feared this unwanted answer.
Note to self: Hiei can NOT know of this. Kurama thought.
“So, she's your cousin?” he asked.
“Yes. But the reason I never told yall is because only Dad and I are the only ones who are supposed to know. You see, Neka is a half-breed, and that would look bad on our side for politics.” Koenma stated and sounded like he only paused to let Kurama speak.
“I understand. But how is it that-” he began but Koenma finished for him.
“She's half-witch? You see, Kurama, witches, wizards, and warlocks alike are all spiritual beings, just like Botan and I. Not all of us are, just a selected few. Neka was the first in a millennia in our bloodline to receive that trait and therefore made her more powerful than she was.
“Half-youkai, half-spirit beings are very rare in general, but to find a half-magical, half-youkai being is even more infrequent. Neka was a kind soul as a child, but the fates have a sick sense of humor. She was beaten, nearly raped, and many times half-dead after Reikai school. You never want to go to a school here if you have even a drop of demon blood. We have worse bullies than the Ningenkai schools.
“Anyway, my father banned her to the Makai for “disrupting and causing emotional stress among Reikai inhabitants. From then on Neka just wandered around, got kidnapped, and hung around some guy for a long time until she died.” Koenma explained. Kurama was trying to take it all in.
“I see. Yes, I remember meeting her very briefly on my way to the Ningenkai. She was crying tear gems, so naturally I thought that she was a koorime. I guess I was wrong.” he said.
“Yes, that's why she's kidnapped all the time. Those tears she cries are pure Kakomi crystals.”
“Those are worth quite a bundle on the black market.”
“Yes, they are.”
Kurama then argued with himself mentally whether or not to tell Hiei all of this. The plus side would be that he would know much more about her and why she's always kidnapped; yet on the down side he'd probably go berserk at Koenma's and Neka's relationship.
Enma, this was confusing.
“Wait, you said she's died before?” Kurama questioned in disbelief.
“Yes. She was so badly injured and beaten by one of her kidnappers that our Reikai doctors couldn't even fix her. We brought her back, but she was disoriented for a very long time and I couldn't comfort her. She's like a sister to me, Neka.” Koenma explained. Kurama nodded.

“Here comes Kurama!” Hinageshi told Botan. Botan blushed as she spun around to see the Reikai Tentai striding to the portal room. Of course, only Kurama stuck out.
“U-uh hi, guys!” Botan greeted.
“Hello, Botan. How are you?” Kurama asked. Botan smiled.
“Good. You?”
“Fine.”
I could've told you that, cutie. Botan thought.
“Hey, Kurama, we hafta go. NOW!” Yusuke shouted. Kurama and Botan blushed lightly, realizing everyone else in the room.
“Coming.” Kurama told him and turned to Botan. Making sure no one was looking, he pecked her cheek with his soft lips.
“…Kurama?” Botan whispered.
“See you later, Botan.” Kurama bid to her and smiled as he walked backwards for a few feet; he walked normally after Kuwabara noted that he was doing that.
Botan touched her cheek and squealed when the Tentai were out of earshot. Hinageshi was forgotten and she just stood there with a smirk on her face.

Hiei stood in front of the portal, planning on jumping in first since the detective and the oaf were fighting while fox-boy tried to break them up.
He was thinking about what to do and say when he saw her. Neka would look different now; she probably grew out her hair like she had planned. Then Hiei remembered something.
The chocker he gave her! The bell on it was a transmitter! Good lord how stupid could he fucking get?! Hiei had to find a communicator, NOW!
Who's got one? The detective does, but I'm not about to help break up a fight. Let's see, Kuwabara lost his, Kurama said he didn't need one, that leaves…oh no.
The onna. Hiei thought and groaned inwardly. Making sure the two boneheads were still arguing, he flitted off and came face-to-face…or rather face-to-chest with Botan. Botan squeaked in surprise as she leapt back.
“Hiei?!” she shouted.
“Yes. Lemme use your communicator.” Hiei ordered and held out his palm.
“Why should I?” Botan asked stubbornly.
“Because if you don't I will inform Kurama that it was you who stalked him for two months.” Hiei retorted.
“Oooo, I hate you Hiei! You and your stupid blackmail!” Botan screeched.
“You really did? And here I was lying.” Hiei admitted. Botan glared at Hiei and handed him her pink communicator.
“You press the number on the keypad to the one you want to call.” she told him.
“I'm not stupid, onna.” Hiei said darkly and punched in Neka's number.

Beep, be-beep, beep, be-beep!
“Huh? When was the last time I got called on?” Neka pondered to herself and removed the bell from her black choker.
Grrr…I forgot how to answer. Let's see, you pres this, I think. Neka thought and pressed a hardly noticeable button.
“Hello? Neka here.” she spoke into the miniscule microphone.
“Neka?!” a slightly familiar voice shouted in poorly masked excitement.
