Scared

Chapter 4

I stared up at him as he dipped the cross in a low acidic acid. He pressed the hot burning metal onto my shoulder. I screamed bloody murder. He had beaten me and raped me again...and now he was marking me for all the 'wrong' I've done against him. He laughed as he kissed my neck and pulled the cross away. That sick maso-bastard. I couldn't do anything because I was chained the bed. He wiped the acid residue from my skin and started to rape me again. I didn't have the energy to scream. I let him have his way with me that night. The night...I was marked as god's sin...the night I was marked with the Cross of Damnation.

---

I woke up in a cold sweat. I was on top of my blankets staring at the ceiling. I turned to look at my clock. 2:46 AM. Damn...The pills didn't help. I sat up and shivered. I turned to see my glass doors open...did I leave them open? Shrugging I got up and closed them before heading to the bathroom across the hall. I closed the door and looked at the mirror. I turned and looked at my back from over my shoulder. When I was younger, my mother had said I should cover my scars from the other kids. So my mother mixed a women's foundation that matched my skin, with something that would keep it on for a long time, I think she put in special glue. I don't know. We put that on my back scars and anytime I would grow and the scars would stretch or something, we would add it to my back. It hid them pretty well. Hell when I came back from the dead they were hidden and not even Hiei knew of them. After Sensui when I moved, my mother and I never put that stuff on my back again. So now, they were showing through.

Shaking my head clear of thoughts of the past, I took off my pants and climbed in the shower. I ran ice cold water down my back as I put my arms against to wall. Lowering my head, I started to think of what to do. Maybe I should go with mother to Lin's country estate. I closed my eyes as the cold water ran down my back. I want to know why the hell these dreams are coming back now. I kept my eyes closed not thinking of anything. It was just a black haze.

I must have been in the shower for hours because when I opened my eyes my doorbell went off. I got of the shower and dried off. I put the towel around my waist and grabbed one for my head. As I was drying my head one the way down the stairs, I looked at the time on the cable box. My eyes widened as I say it was almost eight o'clock. I was in the shower for about four-five hours? I shook my head and kept the towel on my head as I opened the door. I stared at the back of a woman's black haired head. I blinked and looked up and down. Only one person came to mind.

"Lin?" She turned around and smiled. I'm always right. I didn't smile back though I just stared. "What are you doing here?"

"Geez Yusuke...did you forget?" She giggled. "Our spar..." I guess she noticed I was just in a towel because she blushed. "Um...."

"Blushing? I thought you were use to seeing guys in a towel?" She glared at me then motioned to her car. I looked to see Kurama and Hiei leaning against it. Fuck...

"I brought some of your friends so they know where you live," Lin said with her hands on her hips. I sighed and nodded. No use in arguing with this. Lin is too stubborn for her own good and I was tired. I rubbed my eyes as I slipped the towel around my shoulders and looked at Lin.

"Bring them into the kitchen, I still need to eat breakfast before we spar alright?" She looked into my eyes. I think she saw my weariness.

"Are you alright Yusuke?" She asked.

"Lin, I can kick your ass in my sleep." I said. Well...in my sleep I'd probably be too worried with my nightmares but who needs to know that? At least that got her pissed.

"Yeah right Urameshi! I am going to kick your butt this time!" She shouted before turning and stomping over to the two demons. I smiled and backed away from the door. Mustn't let Kurama and Hiei see my scars. I backed up into the stairs then turned and went to my room. I quickly got dressed into a pair of boxers, a new pair of fighting white pants that cut off before the ankles, and a dark green short sleeve shirt. I went to the bathroom to hang up the towels to dry. I also put my hair in my usual slick back way. I smiled slightly as I heard Lin talking. She was always a big mouth. I climbed down the stairs and headed to the kitchen. I saw Kurama sitting on the bar I had looking at Lin who was sitting on the kitchen island that I had in the middle. Hiei was in the corner by the sliding glass door leading to the patio to the beach, which was beside Kurama. I walked silently up behind Lin grinning. I then suddenly pushed her off the island.

"EEK!" She yelled as she crashed to the floor. I laughed at her. "YUSUKE!" She stood up and glared at me. "Why did you do that?!"

"Hey, I don't want no monkeys on my things." I grinned as she glared more.

"OH! You sir, are insufferable!" Lin said pointing at me accusingly. I shrugged and went to my refrigerator looking for something to eat. "I just don't understand you Yusuke..." Lin said.

"Take a number," I said. Dammit, I didn't feel like eating anything. I closed the refrigerator with a sigh. I guess I'm skipping breakfast, again. No, I don't usually skip. I just remembered I have to give mom money, so that means I got to cut back on things. Dandy....

"Not hungry Yusuke?" Kurama asked after I closed the door. I turned to Hiei and him. Shaking my head, I yawned slightly. Hiei was looking at me with his usual cold eyes, but something seemed to be hidden behind them. I raised an eyebrow and looked at Kurama. He looked cozy and calm. I didn't question I just looked at Lin.

"Shall we get this spar over with Lin?" I headed around the kitchen to the doors where Hiei was standing. I opened them and glanced at him. He glanced back and stared. I shrugged and headed outside bare foot. I heard them follow me as I jumped onto the sand. I stretched my arms skyward as Lin hurried after me.

"Rules?" Lin asked as we got away from the patio. We were a few feet apart. "Or is it just don't kill each other?" I grinned. "And no weapons right? Damn..." I smirked.

"Do I have to pat you down?"
"No..." She glared at me and started to pull out her wrist knifes then a small kunai from her belt. "There..."

"I must recommend you remove that extendable staff from your calf Lin-san." Kurama called. Ha! You can't deceive a kitsune! Usually I get that too, but I'm just too tired to notice.

"Ready?" I called. Lin rolled her shoulders and smirked.

"Ready!" She said back. We stared into each others eyes, not giving off what kind of martial art stance we were getting into. I could feel Kurama and Hiei watching me.

Suddenly, Lin dashed across the white sand toward me. She threw a punch at me which I blocked. She tried to kick me only to have me jump up over it. She growled as she continued trying to land something. "ARGH! YUSUKE! FIGHT BACK!" I just nodded and started to fight back using my 'human' strength. She did pretty good and actually got me to flip over myself. I heard Kurama talking with Hiei about her technique. It was a mixture between Kenpo, Hika-ken, and Hakke-sho. I flipped over her and landed in the water. It reached my ankles. Great...I looked up to see Lin charging at me again. My eyes widened slightly as the water receded.

"No Lin wait!" It was too late; I had managed to put my hands up to block the kick as it sent me backwards. My body slammed into the wave, which slammed me back forward into Lin and the ground. I felt my head spinning as a smaller wave washed us onto shore lightly. I coughed as I got up on all fours. I heard Lin groan as she sat up.

"My head..." She murmured as Kurama and Hiei came over to us. "That's the third time!"

"I tried to warn you..." I coughed again to get the salt out of my throat. I heard Kurama laugh and Hiei chuckle.

"Are you two alright?" Kurama asked. I stood and stretched my back.

"No thanks to Lin..." My back cracked and I winced. Bad habit... "Anyway...I'm going to take a quick shower and head to my mother's." Kurama and Hiei shared a look. I raised an eyebrow. "Oh Lin...that reminds me." I turned to the wet girl. Chuckling I asked, "Can my mother and I use your estate in the country?"

"Sure! I'll call ahead and tell Haru you are coming with company." Lin said cheerfully. "Oh crap, I got to get to the office." She said as she ran to her car. "Oh why not take Kurama and the short guy! And maybe the ugly one...or not. Have Fun!" With that she ran to her car and left. Always waiting till the last minute.

"I guess...would you guys mind coming with my mother and me to the estate? It's very beautiful and has miles and miles of forest and land." I asked. I turned to them as I walked backwards toward the patio.

"Are you sure Yusuke?" Kurama asked as he followed me, Hiei not to far behind. "We don't want to intrude..."

"I'm sure mom won't mind me bring you guys---" I shouted the last word as I tripped backwards over the steps of the patio. I banged my head against the top steps and didn't see anything but black for a while.

"Yusuke!" I heard the sand shift as someone ran across it. I suddenly felt myself being picked up from being sprawled back on the steps. I flinched as I straightened my back. Damn that left a bruise. The darkness from my eyes started to clear enough to see ruby red eyes staring at me. Hiei was the one who helped me? I blinked to get the rest of the blackness from my sight. "Yusuke are you alright?" Kurama asked concernedly.

"Bruised...nothing more..." Both demons helped me stand and get inside. "It's alright I can get it from here. I'll just be a few minutes...help yourself to the TV and the kitchen." I said as I quickly left them to take a shower. I mumbled about the sand which caused Kurama to laugh.

After my shower, I got dressed in a pair of blue jeans and a black button shirt. I left the first two buttons off. My hair was gelled back again. I walked down and noticed Kurama was the only one there. "Where did Hiei go?" I asked as I went to him.

"He left to visit Yukina, he said he was going to come to the estate with us if you don't mind." Kurama answered standing up. "About yesterday Yusuke...."
"Forget it..." I smiled. Kurama smiled back. "Come on I got to give my mother this..." I waved an envelope that was in my hand. It had enough money to pay off some of my mom's bills. Kurama nodded and grinned.

"Yusuke...can I drive though?" I blinked.

"You know how to drive a motorcycle?" Kurama chuckled at this.

"You've been away too long, I have one of my own." I shrugged and tossed him the keys.

---

Kurama was right about knowing hot to ride a motorcycle. I laughed as I got off. He grinned at me and revved the engine. I shook my head at him. "Can you wait here?"

"Sure..." He turned off the engine and just sat on the bike. I nodded and walked up to my mother's apartment. When I got there I saw my mother talking to two men in the doorway. I narrowed my eyes as they tried to intimidate my mother.

"Give us the money now!" One raised his hand as if to strike her. I was immediately behind him gripping his wrist tightly.

"Wouldn't hit a women now would you?" I asked in a dangerous voice. The men jumped and backed away from the doorway as I stood beside my mother. "Hey mom, will this be enough?" I handed her the envelope of money. She opened it and her eyes widened at all the money in there. I watched the men as she took out some and handed it to the closet one.

"Is that enough?" She asked in a small voice. They counted the money in front of us. I sneered at them. Greedy money bags.

"More than enough..." They whistled. "We won't bother you again Atsuko...just make sure you keep up with your bills." They immediately left. Why those selfish....

"Yusuke....this is too much...." My mother said as she attempted to give the rest back. I shook my head and closed her hands around the envelope.

"Keep it...you need it more than I do." I had given my mother money that was equal about 10,000 American dollars. I was saving it up for a vacation, but she needed it now. "Oh and Lin said it was okay to go to her estate. She said if you wanted I could bring Kurama and Hiei." I saw her grin. Another thing I told my mother...I told her I think I might be bisexual. She didn't freak out like I thought she would, instead she encouraged me to try to date people whether guy or girl.

"So....going to put the moves on one of them?"

"MOTHER!" I blushed and shook my head. "They are my friends nothing more."

"Sure....anyway did you have any nightmares?" My mother asked getting serious. I ran a hand through my hair.

"The time he marked me..." She gave a hiss of sadness. She knew of what he did. I sighed and nodded. "Anyway...we are leaving later today, so get ready."

"Alright...are we taking my car?" She asked. I thought about it for a second. "Yea...and I'll drive."

"Okay, I'll see you later..." She kissed my cheek then walked into the apartment and locked the door. I sighed and headed downstairs to Kurama.

"Hey Yusuke....those two men..." Kurama said as I walked closer to him.

"Bill collectors...it's taken care of now. Let me drop you off so you can pack." I said as Kurama moved back to let me drive.

---

I glanced at my mother who was humming with the music. She had just picked me up from my house and now we were heading to Kurama's house to pick him and Hiei up. I slowly rolled up to Kurama house to see him kissing his mom goodbye. Hiei quickly got into the car with his small bag as my mother chuckled.

"In a rush Hiei?" She asked.

"Hn..." I laughed and looked up as Kurama went around back. I popped the trunk open and watched as he put his stuff away. Shiori walked up to the car and started to talk with my mother.

"Atsuko-chan, please watch over Shuiichi..." Shiori smiled at my mother. My mother handed Shiori a piece of paper that had the number to the estate, my cell phone, and my mother's cell phone.

"Here, in case you can't get a hold of him." She smiled at Kurama's mom. "And don't worry, I'll take care of the boys....right Yusuke?"
"Oh yea..." I said sarcastically. Shiori and my mother laughed. "Sorry to hear you have to work Minamino-san, you would love it. Maybe another time?" I said.

"Yes, I heard all about it from your mother. Don't worry Yusuke...I'll be sure to get off for the next visit." I nodded to Shiori.

"We got to go mother..." Kurama said kissing his mother on the cheek again. "I'll call to check up on you..." Did I mention that Kurama had told his mother about the Reikai Tantei? No...well he did...my mother had to calm her down a bit...but after that she was okay with it knowing she wasn't the only mom with a son full of secrets. She doesn't know that he's a demon yet. One secret at a time I guess.

"Alright, have fun Shuiichi! You too Hiei!" She said smiling as Hiei just glared. Hiei was now living with Kurama also...I forgot to mention that too didn't I? Oh well now you know. "Bye!" She waved. We said bye back as I rolled away then took off toward the country side.

After about an hour or two of driving my mom fell sleep leaning against the door. She had her seatbelt on and was curled up into a ball. I shrugged off my jacket and took it off one arm at a time, keeping my eyes on the road. "Hey, Kurama can you put this over my mother?" I held my jacket out.

"Sure," He smiled and took the jacket and tucked it around my mother. "She falls asleep easily."

"Yea, since she slowed down on the alcohol it has been like that." I said and glanced in the mirror looking at Hiei who was sitting behind my mother. "So, how has the missions been since I left?" Hiei looked up at me and grinned.

"What missing the action detective?" I rolled my eyes at him and looked back at the road.

"No, I have plenty at the precinct," I murmured. My back started to hurt from sitting for so long. I rotated my neck slowly, making sure to watch the road still. I froze when I felt hands massage my neck.

"Stiff Yusuke?" I heard Kurama's voice ask. I nodded slightly. My stomach tightened as I felt his hand kneaded my neck muscles. "Better?" I heard him ask.

"Y-yea..." I said not looking back at him. I could feel Hiei's glare on me. Shit...this is just great. I saw the turn up ahead and turned totally ignoring the feeling in my chest from Kurama's massage. After about 20 minutes a huge mansion appeared in our view.

"Is that Lin's estate?" Kurama asked looking at it.

"Yep..." I answered as I slowed at the gate.

"How did she get it?" He questioned again.

"Hn....probably killed someone..." Hiei answered glaring at it, but then looking at all the trees and forest around it.

"Close, it's at the base of the mountain as you see. Her uncle owned it." My mother said with a weary voice as she woke up. She yawned. "She inherited it." She laid my coat in between us as we got to the gate. "I hate this part." I grinned and pressed the button on the small speaker box that was on the stand.

"You are forbidden from this estate..." A male voice spoke. I rolled my eyes.

"Are you sure this is Lin's estate?" Kurama asked. My mother nodded as I held down the button to speak to the person.

"Haru, get your lazy ass up and open the damn gate! It's Urameshi!" I shouted into the box.

"Very smart..." Hiei snorted. I smirked as the voice returned with an answer.

"AH! It's Yusuke! No need to yell, Can't an old man have fun?" Haru asked through the speaker as the gates opened. I held down the answer as my mother answered.

"Yes you are! Now you better have our rooms ready or I will kick your ass Haru!" My mother...you got to love her. I let the button go.

"Yes, Urameshi-san!" Haru said as the gate stopped and allowed me to drive through. I laughed at my grinning mother. Kurama laughed at what she said next, even Hiei chuckled.

"Stupid old man, wait till I see him..."
