Self Loathing- Chapter 1: "Disease"

Notes: This a little weird since it's my first psychological fic. Of course, I'm using Hiei. This is mostly focused on Kurama and Hiei unlike my other fics where the main character is Kuwabara. Also, my first shonen-ai fic.

"Hn. What pitiful ningens…" Hiei muttered as he watched a pair of human lovers run by arm in arm. The fire demon turned away quickly to hide his frustration. "They don't even realize that their docile friendship won't last. It will die and whither. And then they will be miserable and alone." Hiei jumped from the tree landing in the rose bushes below. "That is why I never bother to care." "It's better to fall then to never have flown at all Hiei."

The fire demon grunted as he turned to see his partner, Kurama. The boy stood behind him, still in his scarlet school uniform, a satchel at his side. `He must've just come from school…' Hiei thought. "Well, it's nice to see you too." Kurama replied with a playful laugh. "I see you have some time off from work." Hiei removed his hands from his pockets and nodded. "Only a today. Nothing much. Damn Mukuro…" he smiled slightly. Kurama smiled too. "Are you interested in going to the small carnival here in town?" `Anywhere, as long as it's with him…' Hiei thought. The demon grunted again. "Fine, if you really want me to." Kurama nodded. "Alright, you can get changed into some of my clothes back home."

"It seems we have found the perfect candidate my lord." A demon said bowing down before the throne in front him. "Good, good. Who is it?" "A fire demon called Hiei, sir." Prince Mukade smiled. "Does he have enough self loathing to host the disease?" "Yes my lord." "Hmm, he does sound like the perfect candidate to spread my disease. Prepare the disease for injection." The demon bowed again. "Hai!"

Crickets chirped as Hiei and Kurama walked through the carnival. Kids laughing and adults smiling made Hiei turn away. `How can they be so happy? No one has ever given me such kindness… with the exception of Kurama.' He starred at his red headed partner who was looking around. "Hiei, why don't we get something to eat?" Hiei muttered something and Kurama smiled. "Good. I'll be right back." Kurama ran off into the crowd towards the stands across the way. Hiei merely stood where he was and looked around. For once, he felt happy. The fire demon couldn't help but smile at Kurama's childish acts as he got ice cream for the two of them. A sudden ki stopped his thoughts and he turned around. `Why can't I pin point that energy?!' Hiei thought in frustration. A sharp pain shot up his arm ripping through the sleeve of his shirt. The ki disappeared just as suddenly as it had come and Hiei looked at his arm. There was only a simple scratch across his arm.

"Are you alright Hiei?" Kurama asked handing his friend the ice cream cone. "I'm fine." Hiei lied. The red haired youkai frowned but ignored the bad feeling he had. "Ok." The two walked on as something in the shadows sniggered and whispered, "Injection complete…"

It was late when Hiei and Kurama returned to Kurama's house. They stood in his bedroom, the window open and a light breeze blowing into the room. Hiei had changed his clothes and was ready to leave. "I'll miss you Hiei." Kurama said. Hiei smiled at his friend's weak ningen emotions. `Why do I shun his weak emotions when I feel the same way?' Hiei seemed to ask himself. "I won't be gone that long." Hiei replied. Kurama smiled as he pulled Hiei closer. "You can never stay away long." The youkai whispered. The couple's lips met in a bittersweet kiss. Before Kurama could say goodbye again, Hiei leapt out the window and into the garden below. Kurama shut his window with a sigh and removed his shoes and shirt. The red head crawled into bed and before he shut off the light, he muttered, "I love you Hiei."
