Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Shoot the Moon ❯ Shoot the Moon ( One-Shot )
His deep blue eyes studied her serene face. "Dose it not bother you?"
Her eyes still closed against the setting sun, she gifted him a small smile, "It never has."
His arms tightened around her when she shivered. "You can't go away Saa-koi."
"I'm not going to."
Tears glistened in her brown orbs. She opened her mouth to speak, but no sound would make it passed her lips. She tried again, but only a small sob escaped. The vision danced before her eyes, taunting her with her beloved's death.
"What have you seen?"
Small pleading squeaks escaped her, while she shook her head frantically. "It won't change even if I tell you." She sobered a minute later, all previous fears gone. "It never has before."
Sakyou paused, seeming to rethink what he was admitting. "When I was making bets, I wondered what I was doing it for." He kissed her forehead. "At the risk of sounding soft, now it's all for you; for us."
"Promise me."
He kissed her lips softly. "I promise."
Shizuru placed a finger on his scar, tracing it. "Promise me you won't make a bet you can't win. Even if the odds seem in your favour. Promise me this one thing and I'll ask for nothing else."
"Always."
She watched the rising moon, the entity of the night. "Shoot the Moon." Her voice carried on the breeze. "Tell me again Saa-koi."
"The summer days are gone too soon
You shoot the moon
And miss completely
And now you're left to face the gloom
The empty room that once smelled sweetly
Of all the flowers you plucked if only
You knew the reason
Why you had to each be lonely
Was it just the season?
Now the fall is here again
You can't begin to give in
It's all over
When the snows come rolling through
You're rolling too with some new lover
Will you think of times you've told me
That you knew the reason
Why we had to each be lonely
It was just the season" His voice lulled her into a state of oblivion. The chest she was leaning against rumbled with soft laughter. "I'll never understand."
"The words don't mean as much as the conviction in your voice when you say them." Shizuru sighed in remembrance. "When I fell in love with you, it was when you recited that poem. Even if the words don't exactly evoke the happiness we strive for, it still makes me remember my love for you."
They let the silence wash over them, perhaps being the last time they could relax in each others presence.
"I was a blind man before you showed me there was more to life than gambling."
"Who told you to say that?"
"My heart."
She smiled fondly at him, "Whenever the real Sakyou comes back, give me a call."
"Stay with me tonight."

"Oi, Shizuru, why do ya look so sad?"
Aforementioned woman looked at her little brother with haunted eyes. "I never got to tell him."
"Tell who what?"
"That I forgive him."
"Who?"
Shizuru snapped out of her daze, "No one."
She looked at the moon from the ship traveling back to the mainland.
I forgive you Sakyou.
She laid her hand on her stomach.
I'll never forget you.
Shoot the moon for me.
