Rating: R (for language and may go up for future lemons)
Disclaimer: LM: If we owned Yu Yu Hakusho, do you think we would be here…? No, I don't think so, so back off. *grr*
LR: Damn girl calm down. It's just a disclaimer, not an inquisition. -_-;;
A/N LR: Anyways, this will have OOC throughout the chap. The point to this chap and next few chaps is humor. So don't expect much angst or continuing of plot. The next few chaps is just to build our OC characters, and learn of their pasts, and family history. We hope you enjoy the chap. Ja ne, for now. ^_____^
*Re-Cap*
The front door of the apartment busted open. "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN HERE?"
* Chapter 7 *
Time seemed to stop, literally. No one could move a muscle, except their eyes.
/ Woman, what are you doing? / He thought to Ann.
/ I didn't do it, I swear! / Ann screamed back to him telepathically.
After a minute or so past, everyone was able to move again. They all turned to look at the door. There stood a man over 6'5", wearing military dress greens (1). The left side of his chest was covered with his decorated badges and pins. Wrapped around his right shoulder was a green and red rope. His coat and pants were ironed smooth, not wrinkle or crease could be seen. On the collar of his shirt were stars: three stars up, and three stars down, with a single star, surrounded by a wreath (2). Proudly upon his head lay a green beret (3). The man was a sight to be seen; ever the most vicious of criminals would shake in fear of him, if not for that, for his military standing and training then, or for his sheer size alone. Unfortunately, all this man's anger and hostility was aimed solely on Hiei and Kurama.
(A/N LR: see end of chap for details.)
/ Who is this guy? And why do I get the feeling that he is looking through you, Kurama, and staring at me? /
Kurama: *silent*
Shuichi: / I don't know, but it's starting to freak me out. /
(A/N LR: Shuichi just had to put his two cents in. -_-;; )
/ Don't let your guard down, Fox. /
While Hiei and Kurama were having their conversation, the girls looked at the man as well and then squealed, "Daddy!!"
At this, Kurama let go of Tommi to cover his ears while Hiei cringed. He was about to let go of Ann, when all of a sudden he was thrown over her shoulder, and landed on his back, staring up at the ceiling.
While Hiei's world was being turned upside down, he heard a *ump* sound from the direction of where Kurama was. He turned his head and saw Kurama holding his stomach.
"What happen?" He asked.
"Tommi elbowed me!" Kurama stated.
(A/N LM: Tommi didn't realize that Kurama had let go of her. I just wanted to point that out. ^^ )
"Well, where did she go?" Hiei asked, half growling.
Kurama pointed in the direction of the front door. Hiei turned his head again, and what he saw just about made his jaw hit the floor. There was Tommi and Ann hugging the man in the uniform, acting like five year olds.
Ann had her arms wrapped around the man's neck, while Tommi had hers around his waist.
/ What the hell are they doing? / Hiei asked mentally.
/ Well, if you'll remember, Hiei, they did scream the word "Daddy" so we're assuming that this is their father. / Kurama stated.
Hiei looked back over at the girls, still not being able to believe the sight in front of him.
The girl's father placed a hand on each of their heads, signaling for them to stop moving. Both girls looked up at him, "Girls, when did you get back?" he asked.
Ann and Tommi looked at each other, and then back at their dad. "Just a few minutes ago." The both responded.
"Who are these two `gentlemen'?" He asked as he nodded to Hiei and Kurama.
"Um…" Both girls looked at each other again. Ann was the one who spoke up. "They are our training partners. Remember, that is why we have been gone so long. Sensei sent us off to train.
Tommi looked over at Ann, her eyes widening. Ann saw the look on Tommi's face and realized what she had done. She swallowed hard, looking at her dad. /Dear God I hope that is what he said. /
Their father raised an eyebrow. "That does not tell me `who' they are." He said.
Tommi's face let up with relief. "Oh, well, the girly one, with the red hair is Kurama, and the short dude in all black is Hiei." She stated, pointing at each in turn "Don't let their appearances fool you though…they are not as wussy as they look.
Kurama restrained a twitch, as Hiei narrowed his eyes at Tommi's last comment.
"Tommi! That was rude of you. Now apologize to these nice boys, and introduce them properly." stated a woman angrily, as she stepped out from behind the girls' father. She was the same height as Tommi. Her long dark blond hair was done up in a fancy knot. She wore a dark, sequin, blue dress, which matched her stormy blue eyes.
"But Mom…" Tommi started.
"Thomasina, you'd better do as your mother says." Tommi's father warned.
She bowed her head, lowering her eyes. "Yes sir." She mumbled.
Tommi tuned to Kurama and Hiei. "I'm sorry for what I say. It was rude of me and I apologize."
Kurama nodded his head, as Hiei stuck his nose in the air giving a "Hn". Tommi clinched her fists at her side, but dared not to do anything in front of her parents. She walked over to Kurama and Hiei, "Kurama, Hiei, this is our father, Command Sergeant Major Thomas S. Smith, of the United States Army." Her voice was full of pride for her father. "And this is our mother, Anna Lee Smith. Mom, Dad? This is Kurama, and Hiei."
"Hello, it is a pleasure to meet you both." Kurama gave a respectable bow. Hiei just gave another "Hn". Thomas raised an eyebrow at Hiei.
"Now that you are home, Mr. Smith, I believe it is time for Hiei and I to leave. It's late, and we still need to get home ourselves. Good night." Kurama made to turn to Hiei when he realized he was not beside him. Everyone turned to the door, as they heard it open. Hiei was at the front door, already leaving. Kurama gave an apologetic smile to Thomas, giving one last bow, and walked to the door, following Hiei out of the apartment.
As the door closed behind Kurama, Ann and Tommi were engulfed in their mother's arms. "OH, my babies are home! I have missed you so much. Why didn't you call and tell us where you were? We were so worried about you." *sniff, sniff*
As Tommi and Ann were embraced by their mother, they began to turn blue from lack of oxygen. "We have missed you too, but…." Ann whispered hoarsely.
"WE CAN'T BREATHE!" Tommi gasped out.
Anna released her daughters, mumbling an apology, as she wiped her eyes. *sniff, sniff* "I think" *sniff* "that I am going to work" *sniff* "on some laundry now." *sniff, sniff* She turned and walked down the hall, into the laundry room, still crying softly.
(A/N LR: Just so you know, those were happy tears not sad. ^__^ )
Thomas watched his wife walk down the hall, smiling happily behind her, when he saw his girls trying to sneak off. "Girls?"
Both Ann and Tommi cringed, when they heard their father call after them. They turned around to their father, with wide smiles. "Yes, Daddy?" Both responded at the same time.
"I would like to see you both in my office in five minutes." He stated plainly, and marched down to hall in to his office, giving the girls no time to object.
* Spirit Realm / Koenma's office *
"Hmmm…So you didn't find anything?" Koenma asked, leaning over the report Kurama had given him.
"No, nothing. It turns out that the stone was not in Makai after all." stated Kurama.
Koenma sighed, still leaning over his desk.
"Koenma?"
Koenma looked up from his desk at Kurama. "Yes?"
"I wanted to ask you, do you know what powers the girls are supposed to receive from the stones?"
"Um…Well…*glance up at Kurama, smiling sweetly* I don't understand what you mean." Koenma started to fidget behind his desk.
/ Can he be anymore dense? /
/ Yes, Youko, I believe he can. / Kurama
/ How about we try rephrasing the question? / Shuuichi asked.
/ O.K. how's this for rephrasing? / Youko said.
Youko pushed Shuuichi to the side, forcefully taking control of their body. "Look Koenma," Youko half snarled "Besides the telepathic abilities, wasn't there something you forgot to mention. For instance, Tommi's ability to control the elements and Ann controlling time, which are two powers that even when `I' was alive were only found in legends!"
Hiei: /You better get control Fox, before Koenma tries to become part of his seat. / He stated plainly.
Kurama: /I'm trying! / Kurama yelled back.
After Youko's little tirade, Kurama was finally able to gain control again.
Kurama: / Are you quite finished? /
/ Yes, thank you. I had to blow off a little steam. / Youko said, while grinning
/ You're NOT welcome! / Shuuichi snapped.
Youko: / Well, excuse me, but I didn't see you coming up with any bright ideas, Shuuichi, so I took matters into my own hands! /
/ Next time, just warn me please. I don't feel like spending the rest of my natural and UNNATURAL born life in the spirit world jail! / Kurama pleaded.
/ Fine, I'll warn you next time, ok? Sorry. / Youko grumbled
/ We know you're sorry. / Shuuichi shot back, still glaring at Youko.
/ Don't start with me, human. / Youko growled.
/ Or you'll do what? / Shuuichi taunted.
/ I give up! / Kurama thought as he threw his hands up in defeat.
"Problems, Fox?" Hiei asked.
"Nothing I can't handle, Hiei." Kurama smiled, half snarled. He decided to leave his to companions, to fight it out amongst themselves.
While Kurama was having his mental war, Koenma was able to peel himself off his chair. He looked at Kurama and found that he had Youko once again under control.
"Well…uh…um…" Koenma murmured self consciously, nervously tapping his fingers together. He looked at Hiei who was still glaring and Kurama whom was calm but also glaring.
"Is there something, ANYTHING AT ALL that you know about the stones or their powers?" Kurama asked.
"I don't know anything" Koenma said out loud, and then mumbled under his breath "Except for…" hoping that the two demons did not catch his extra comment.
(A/N LR: He's wishful thinking isn't he?)
Unfortunate for him, they did hear. "What do you mean by `except for…'", Hiei asked, getting a little pissed off himself.
"Ok, all that I know about the stones is that they can bring out the power that lays within a person's soul, hence the name `Soul Stones'" Koenma replied.
"So let me see if I get this straight. You're telling us that you knew about these stones and these girls who had possession of them. You knew what they were capable of and yet you, nor Spirit World, did anything about it?" Kurama said exasperatingly, while trying to keep a tight reign on Youko, who was getting impatient.
"Well actually, we couldn't do anything about it." Koenma mumbled again. "But that's besides the point." He exclaimed. "The point is that you guys need to go back and protect those two girls at any and ALL costs. Is that clear?"
Kurama nodded his head, as did Hiei. But as he turned to leave, he gave Koenma the `look' that said `You've got a LOT of explaining to do.' Koenma read the message loud and clear. He then yelled for Boton to open a portal back to Earth.
As both Kurama and Hiei were walking out of Koenma's office, they looked at each other and thought, `What the HELL have we gotten ourselves into?'
~ Earth / Thomas' home office ~
Ann and Tommi walked into their father's office nervously. Spotting their father near his massive bookcase, which was behind his desk, they walked up to him, standing at attention.
Thomas didn't turn to look at them as they entered his office. Finally, after a moment of silence, he spoke. "Why did you girls not inform your mother and me of your training mission yourselves?"
The girls looked at each other, then back at the father's back. Both girls hated to lie, and would find every possible way to keep from doing it. But it seemed to get harder and harder with each passing day. They didn't want to give their parents too much information, but they would not lie either. They were stuck in a very tough situation.
"We didn't get a chance to, dad. When we found out ourselves, we were already leaving. Guko didn't give us any warning. He just showed up, told us to go, and sent us off." Ann answered him anxiously.
Thomas turned around giving Ann a stern look, "Than why didn't you give us a call, when you arrived at your designations?" he asked.
"Because there were no phones. We were sent into the middle of a forest. No running water, no roof over our heads, we had to hunt for our food; he didn't even give us any toiletpaper. Basically, we want camping the hard way." stated Tommi.
Thomas looked between his daughters, deciding if he should believe their words or not. He turned back to his bookcase. "That may be, but that still gives you no excuse to forget your responsibilities here. You have your studyies, hobbies, not to mention how much you worried us, just disappearing like that."
Both girls bowed their heads, apologizing softly. Thomas turned back to his girls, smiling gently. "Get over here you two nuts." He gestured for them to come to him. Both girls broke into a run, Tommi to the right and Ann to the left. They ran behind the desk, thronging themselves at their father.
Thomas laughed full-heartily, at his daughters' enthusiasm. He wrapped them both in his arms, pulling them closer to him. He sighed in relief and satisfaction at having them back home, safe and sound. "My two girls, my angels, I missed you so much."
Both girls snuggled closer to their dad, feeling safe and secure. After a few moments, the girls pulled away. "May we go to bed now?" asked Ann.
"Yes, yes you may." He answered, giving a soft chuckle.
Tommi and Ann gave their dad a kiss on the cheek, saying good night. When they walked out of the office and closed the door behind them, they heard a high pitch scream of their full names, from down the hall, on the other side of the apartment. "Thomasina Ann Smith, and Ann Sheri Smith, get down here right NOW." Anna Lee yelled.
Ann and Tommi looked at each other, blinking, and then swung around running back into their father's office. "Um… dad can we stay here instated. We decided we weren't that tired." Tommi smiled sweetly.
Thomas looked up at his daughters, with a stern look. "Do I look suicidal?" he asked them.
"No." Ann answered.
"Then there is your answer. Now go see what your mother is yelling about. The more you put it off, the worse it will be."
"But-" They both started.
"No buts, now go before you get `me' in trouble." He then smiled sweetly at them. "It's nothing personal, just survival."
Both Ann and Tommi sighed and closed the door, heading down the hall to the laundry room. "Yes, Mom?" Asked Ann.
Ann and Tommi both noticed out the laundry window, that a dark storm was begging to form outside, but they both decided to ignore it.
Anna Lee turned to her daughters, "What is the meaning of this?" she asked, holding up two sets of dirty rags that used to be clothing.
"Um…We can explain…" Ann started.
"You see our training was very, VERY hard, and well, we couldn't help it. Our clothes just get in-between us and our training." Tommi finished.
Anna Lee looked at them with a stunned face, then back at their clothing. Giving a sigh of defeat, she put down the torn garments, and walked up to the girls, cupping their faces, "Babies, my babies. What am I going to do with you? You two are so beautiful, but you try so hard to hide yourselves. Why?" she asked.
"Mom." groaned Tommi, as Ann just rolled her eyes.
"It's true. Ann, you are so tall and well proportioned. You don't look like a walking skeleton, to me. You are a healthy and vibrant young lady, but you hide it all behind that long hair and those dull and lifeless clothes." Anna Lee sighed.
"Mom?" Ann begged.
Anna Lee turned to Tommi. "And you, Thomasina, are beautiful as well. You're so petite and feisty. I wish you would stop hiding behind all those dark and baggy clothing. I worry about you. I mean, you don't like girls do you? If you do that's ok, but you don't have to hide behind dark clothes, to hide it."
"MOM!!!!" Tommi yelled, pulling away from her mother.
"There's nothing wrong with liking girls, but how do you expect to find anyone male or female, dressing like the walking dead."
Thomas popped his head into the laundry room, looking like a curious little boy. "Who's gay?"
"I was just asking Tommi if she liked girls." Anna Lee answered him.
Thomas looked at Tommi, then and Anne Lee. "Well, that would explain a lot." He mumbled.
"I'm not GAY!!!" Tommi screamed.
Ann couldn't help herself, she laughed, at all of it. The idea of Tommi being gay, her mother's comment about Tommi dressing like the walking dead, and the look on their dad's face.
"You're not?" Both Ann Lee and Thomas asked together.
"NO!" Tommi growled.
"Hum…I thought for sure that was it. That was they only reason I could think of you dressing like that. You were so vibrant and out going when you were younger." Stated Anna Lee. Thomas just nodded his head in agreement.
Tommi was practically fuming at the ears, of both embarrassment and anger. Ann was now holding her stomach, because she was laughing so hard.
"Shut up, Ann, it's not funny." Tommi growled. This only made Ann laugh harder.
"My point being." Anna Lee started. "I just wished you two to be happy, and I so dearly want grandchildren. But with you two dressing like...well anyways, I am putting a stop to it. I am taking you both out and buying you all new wardrobes and getting makeovers."
Ann's laughing stopped dead in its tracks, "But you can't!"
"Mom, tomorrow is our birthday. You wouldn't be so cruel to us on our birthday, would you?" asked Tommi, scared shitless for the first time being back home on earth.
Ann Lee looked at both Ann and Tommi sternly. "I can and I will. Like you said, tomorrow is your birthday, and you two will be grown adults, no longer children, and it's about time you started acting like adults. Now go to bed. You will have a busy day tomorrow. " With that Anna Lee turned away from the girls and went back to the laundry. Thomas started to open his mouth to say something but was stopped by one glance from his wife. She would not hear a word of it.
Ann and Tommi sighed and walked out of the laundry room. Looking at each other, both shared the same thought of dread. / What have we gotten our selves into? /
TBC…
A/N LM: Sorry about the long wait. I have been on vacation, and I am just now getting back.
LR: Well I hope you all liked the chap; the next one will be out soon. Oh and just to warn you, no reviews, no chaps, so R/R. ^___^
1) Dress greens: The U.S. Army has two dress uniforms, dress greens and dress blue. These uniforms are worn for different functions.
2) All the stars on the collar of the uniform, informs others of their rank. 3 stars up, 3 stars under, and a single star surrounded by a wreath means he is an E9 officer, the highest you can go in the army without a college degree.
3) The beret Tommi and Ann's father wore represents "The Green Beret". The Green Beret is a Special Forces unit in the U.S. army. It is the toughest training in the army branch and (personal option) in the military.
P.S. LM: I just wanted to say I hope I didn't offend anyone with this chap. I have nothing but love for you all. If I did, I apologize now. *low bow* I'm sorry. I hope there are no hard feelings. Well, I guess I will go now. TTY *waves happily*
