Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Spirit Magic ❯ Chapter: 1 ( Chapter 1 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
AN: As I said in the summary this is after the end of Yu Yu Hakusho and the sixth year of Harry Potter. No I will not be going by the sixth book because I started this story before the sixth book came out and I can't seem to fit the plot to the sixth book. Basically it's my own take on what the sixth year could have been like. Well I hope you like it! Reviews help me remember to write if you get the hint. ^_~
AN: Also anything said in italics is being said in Japanese.
Disclaimer: I do not own any part of Yu Yu Hakusho or Harry Potter.

Chapter: 1
=================================================
Colorful leaves of autumn stirred as a gentle wind wound its self through the courtyard in front of Genkai's temple. On the porch steps sat Yusuke Urameshi. His hair was slicked back like normal, but today he had traded his green jacket and pants for a black-leather jacket, a white under-shirt, and blue jeans. Impatiently, he tossed a rock up and down his eyes focused on a leaf that wavered as the wind tugged on it.
Next to him, leaning against a wooden post, was the redhead, Kurama. His long red hair lay tame against his back while a few stands, tugged free by the wind, played in his face. Without even blinking Kurama tucked the stray strands behind his ear as his emerald green eyes glanced around him at the near by forest. His eyes stopped on a dark shadowy figure in a tree to his right. He allowed a small smile to grace his lips as he spotted his friend.
The wind suddenly shifted, blowing right at Yusuke and Kurama sending dirt and leaves flying at them. When the wind died down they turned to see a teenaged Koenma.
“About time,” Yusuke grumbled as he through the rock over his shoulder.
“Koenma,” Kurama knobbed in greeting.
“I'm glade you all could make it,” Koenma said, ignoring Yusuke's comment, and looked at each of the three boys. Hiei jumped out of the tree and walked over so he was on the other side of Yusuke.
“What's this about?” Hiei asked.
“Well, seeing that we're short on spirit detectives and we only have orges and fairyladies, we could use your help,” Koenma replied.
“Not that I couldn't handle it,” came Botan's cheery voice from behind them, causing Yusuke jump slightly.
Turning around to face Botan, Yusuke asked, “And why are you here? No one's die last I heard.”
“Oh, you've grown so much! And how's, Keiko; its been so long!” Botan said while latching onto Yusuke and giving him a big bear hug.
“It's only been three months,” Yusuke said making a face at the show of affection, and pushed Botan off.
“Ahum,” Koenma cleared his throat to get everyone's attention.
“Sorry, sir,” Botan said catching Koenma's pointed look.
“Anyway, Reikai would like to ask you three's help with a new mission.”
“What's in it for us?” asked Yusuke crossing his arms over his chest.
“And why again do I want to help Ningenkai?” Hiei asked with a scowled.
“For starters, your sister lives here,” Koenma, said looking at Hiei. Hiei looked like he was about to rip Koenma's head off for his choose of words, but decided that it'd be in his best interest not to hack the prince to pieces. At least until there where no witnesses.
“Hn,” Hiei grunted before turning away.
“Well, unless you want paper work, souls, or a stupid blue orge, I don't exactly have anything to give you, Yusuke,” Koenma said in a dry tone turning back to the ex-detective.
Yusuke frowned at this, “You can't just pay us?”
Koenma thought about it for a second before saying, “I can give you each ten bucks a month, but then I'd be broke….”
“You only make thirty bucks a month,” Yusuke said eyes going big.
“No, that's my alliance.”
Yusuke just blinked at him a couple of times before bursting out laughing.
“The mighty prince of the underworld and you only get thirty bucks a month!”
“I'm surprised his father gives him that much,” Botan quipped in with a giggle.
Koenma pretended to ignore their teasing, even though a blood vessel was popping out of his temple.
“What is this `mission' and about how long will it take?” questioned Kurama saving the prince from any more teasing.
“How long - I don't know maybe a few weeks to a year depends on how fast you get done, and the mission is a little complicated,” Koenma said putting on his serous face.
“How `complicated' can it be, we go in kick some demon butt, save the world, then come home,” Yusuke said with a shrug.
“First, you can't just go in and `kick some demon butt' you will have to go undercover as exchange students."
“What!” yelled Yusuke, “Exchange students, your sending us away to school!”
“Yes, it's the only way for you to find clues and fit in, kind of.”
“No”
“What? - Yusuke!” Koenma complained.
“I said no, you're not getting me to go to another country and go to another school,” Yusuke said, arms crossed, a determined expression on his face, “I haven't even completed my school here, and I'm three years behind!”
“You can count me out too,” Hiei said snorting at the idea of going to a human school, let alone to some place he wasn't familiar with.
“And what happened to saving world?” Koenma asked.
“Let someone else save it,” Yusuke said.
“There is no one else!” yelled Koenma as Yusuke started to leave.
“Fine when Keiko, your mom, Kuwabara, his sister, Yukina and everyone else you care about are dead don't come crying to me!” Koenma shouted as he started to create a portal to go back to Reikai complaining all the time about no good street punks.
“Yusuke you really should think about this, why would Reikai be asking you, the maziku, for help unless it was important.”
Yusuke stopped and turned around, sighing slightly he said, “Fine, I'll go.” He was too soft, he thought with a growl at what he was getting himself into.
Kurama gave him a slight smile before turning to Hiei, “And you, if you did nothing and something happened to Yukina could you ever forgive yourself?”
“Hn,” was his only response, but Kurama saw the resolve in his friends crimson eyes.
Koenma had completed his portal now and turned to the three.
“Seeing that you except Botan here can take you to your first stop, the place you'll be staying at till school starts so that you can learn as much about the society as you can,” Koenma said before he stepped through the portal back to Spirit World.
“Okay now for my favorite part! The gadgets!” Botan said excitedly as she pulled out three small, hand size boxes.
“Let's see here Kurama this one is yours,” Botan said handing him the box. Opening it up he found a silver fox pendant on a gold chain. The fox's eyes where made of golden colored stones and in it's mouth was a red rose.
“Hiei,” Botan said giving him his. His was also a necklace. His pendant was a silver dragon with ruby eyes and it was wrapped around a miniature sword.
Yusuke's was next and his was the Japanese symbol for leader. It was done in silver with sapphires imbedded in it.
“And what do these do?” asked Yusuke.
“Their called language charms; they let you speak and understand English as long as you are wearing them,” Botan explained then went on to say, “Okay next are the Illusion charms, they cast an illusion over you, hint the name.”
She then handed them each a small silver ring. They put them on, but nothing happened.
“I think they're broken,” Yusuke said.
“No silly they only make you appear like you are now, but keep in mind they are only illusions.”
“Okay are we done?” Yusuke asked getting a little impatient.
“No, just one more thing and they are the most important!” Botan said looking through her pockets, and finally pulled out the lost objects. She then handed each of the boys a long, slim, case.
Upon opening them they each found a wand. Yusuke's had a greenish look to it, Kurama's a dark red, and Hiei's black with hints of red.
“I've never seen wood like this,” Yusuke said, “And it feels funny.”
“They are Makai plants,” Kurama supplied.
“Yes, Koenma worried that normal wands made for the normal witches and wizards wouldn't be able to handle you three's ki. So he sent for these to be made specially. Hiei yours was made from the wood of a fire plant with the core of a koorime tear gem, thanks to Yukina,” Botan said.
“You made Yukina cry?” Hiei asked, glaring at Botan.
“No silly, she said she keeps the gems she cries in a bag and when we asked she gave us one,” Botan explained.
This seemed to pacify him and he picked up the wand. It felt weird holding the flimsy stick instead of his hard metal sword. He flicked his wrist and to everyone's, but Botan's, surprise red sparks flew out of the end of the wand, turning to fire as they hit the ground.
“Good; Kurama you know what yours is, sense you helped make it, and Yusuke yours is made from one of the strongest types of trees in Makai and your core is one of Puu's feathers,” done explaining things Botan made her oar pop into her hands.
“Now that you have all of your gadgets it's time to go,” she then opened a portal.
“Don't we need to pack! Hell, Koenma said we might be gone a year!” Yusuke complained.
“We'll buy everything you need at the place you are going,” Botan said pushing him through the portal. She then waited till both Kurama and Hiei had followed Yusuke threw before she stepped through closing the portal behind her.
They came out in a dark ally that was empty except for a stray cat, which ran away at the sight of them.
“Where exactly are we?” Yusuke asked looking around.
“We're in London!” Botan said happily.
“London!” Yusuke exclaimed.
“Yes London now come on, I think it's just down the street,” Botan said leading the way down the street.
“Hey when did Botan change?” Yusuke asked Kurama, noticing that instead of the pink kimono that Botan had on when they where at Genkai's, she now wore a sky blue t-shirt, blue jeans and a black robe.
Kurama just shrugged and Yusuke said, “Weird get-up anyway. Is she trying to look like Hiei?” This earned him a glare.
“The onna looks nothing like me.”
They stopped in front of an odd looking building that looked like it was run down, but they could make out movement through the dusty windows.
“Here we are,” said Botan as she opened the door to go in, but was stopped when a man, looking extremely drunk walked out and grinned at Botan before moving on. Strangely he was dressed kind of like Botan, but he looked like the really makoy.
Once he was out of the way they made their way inside the inn, and Botan lead the way up to the counter.
“May I help you, madam?” asked the old man behind it.
“Umh, yes, we need two rooms, adjoined if you can,” Botan answered.
“Certainly follow me,” he said leading the way up a spiral staircase located to the back of the room.
They made a left and headed down a hall till they came to a stop in front of a door. The man fumbled with a ring of keys before he unlocked the door. He then handed Botan two keys and left.
They all filtered into the room as Botan closed the door behind them.
“Oh look guest!” exclaimed a voice.
“Who's there!” asked Yusuke as they jumped into defense positions.
“Shut-up,” said a grouchy voice.
“Ignore him, he's just a big grouch. My name is Katherine Rosalyn, just call me Katty, and grouch over there is Count Brisk, he goes by Grouchy,” said the first voice. To their surprise the voice came from a picture of a young lady dressed in a tight yellow dress with sky blue flowers decorating it. The other voice came from a picture frame with a curtain drawn in front of it.
“My name is Leave-me-the-hell-alone,” said the grouchy voice from behind the curtain.
Yusuke just looked back and forth before sitting down on the bed, “Talking pictures? Botan what haven't you told us?”
She broke into Japanese, “You're mission is in a magic community?”
“Magic, like witches and wizards?” asked Yusuke following her example of speaking in Japanese.
“I hear a rumor of humans with powers like mages, but I had never really believed them,” Kurama said with a thoughtful smile.
“I'm not staying in this room,” Hiei said glaring at the paintings.
“Well you need to go get your school supplies,” Botan said switching back to English. Yusuke just groaned and flopped back onto the bed.
