Chapter: 2
=================================================
Reaching the bottom of the staircase they stopped as Botan looked about.

“Now I know it's around here somewhere…..”

“Umh, Botan what are you looking for I thought we were suppose to be going shopping?” Yusuke asked, though he'd rather be hanging himself than going shopping with Botan.

“Oh, phuwy, I can't remember,” Botan pouted halfway ignoring Yusuke.

With a sigh Kurama walked over to the counter, to where the old man was, and asked, “Sir, could you help us, we're not from around here and--”

“Follow me,” the old man cut in. A little taken back Kurama did as told and followed.

The old man led the way to a door and down a few steps into small room, facing a brick wall. Yusuke was about to start asking the old man why they were down there in a cellar till the old man pulled out a wand and tapped the bricks on the bare wall. To the groups surprise the bricks started to move out of the way creating an archway into a bustling crowded street full of people wearing black robes and pointy hats.

“Here you are, Diagon Ally,” the old man said as he headed back into the pub.

“Thanks!” Botan called after him.

“Now where?” asked Yusuke.

“I don't care, but here's your school list and some money, now I need to be getting back to work, so bye for now, I'll see you later!” Botan said as she turned to spirit form and left.

Yusuke just stared after her open mouthed, “She didn't - she left us - here?”

Kurama was looking over the list she had given them, a note at the bottom read:
Kurama, you're the only one I can trust, will you please make sure Yusuke and Hiei at least read through the book, “History of Magic.” Thanks and Koenma also mentioned that it would be a good idea to read the Daily Prophet, their newspaper, to find out what is happening. Who knows you might be able to find some clues. Well wish you three the best of luck, Botan.

“Well Kurama?” Yusuke asked looking at him.

“Well, seeing that we stick out like sore thumbs we better go get some clothes,” he said as he scanned the names of some of the small buildings they were near.

They fell into the flow of the crowd as they scanned the stores for a clothing store.

“Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions,” Hiei nodded to the store. It was a quaint store with a few fancy robes in the display window.

As they entered the store a bell rang above the door and a lady appear among all the racks of clothing.

“May I help you?” she asked. She wore one of the fancy purple robes on display at the front of the store.

“Yes we need some new robes for school,” Kurama said.

“Sure, it's that time of year isn't it, had a few already today, come in here looking for school uniforms. Here we are,” she said as she pulled out a tape measure and her wand. With one tap the tape measure came to life and flew at Yusuke causing him to jump.

“Just relax,” she said as she wrote down the measurements, “How many pairs?”

“Five pairs each,” Kurama answered for them.

After doing all three she hurried to the back saying she'd be back in a few minutes and to look around.

At Kurama's insistence or rather threats they all decided to pick out at least one dress robe. Kurama picked out a fancy white silk robe with a red inside. Hiei picked out a black silk robe with a red shine to it, and Yusuke picked out a black silk as well, but his had a little more pronounced green shine to it.

Then just to have something besides just their school clothes they picked out some other clothes, that is all except Hiei. Finally done they waited for the lady to come back.

Do you think we bought enough?” asked Yusuke sarcastically.

We didn't bring anything with us, this is what we are going to be wearing for ten months,” Kurama replied back.

That reminds me, what are we going to carry all of this stuff in?” asked Yusuke.

Kurama thought for a second, “Haven't thought of that yet, better add it to the list. Anything else?”

Are we going to have enough money for all of these things?” asked Hiei dryly.

Hopefully,” Kurama said as the lady appeared carrying a bag.

“Here you are, do you want those as well?” asked the lady taking the robes from the boys when Kurama nodded.

She took them, along with the bag, over to the counter where she punched something into the cash register.

“That will be 20 galleons,” she said nicely.

Yusuke looked at Kurama and Kurama looked at the leather pouch Botan had given him and wondered which was a galleon - bronze, silver, or gold? Crossing his fingers he pulled out twenty of the big gold coins and handed them to the woman. She smiled at him before counting them and putting them into the cash register.

“Hear you go, have a good day,” she said handing them two bags. She then disappeared into the back leaving them to stare at their two normal size bags.

I could have sworn we got more than this,” Yusuke said looking at the bag he was holding. He opened it up and dropped it as he stared dumfounded at the miniature clothing.

I think her tape measure was messed up, not even Hiei is that small!” Yusuke said.

Kurama was quit for a moment before he said, “Seeing that we are in a magical world, she probably just shrunk them so that they would be easier to carry.”

There is a strange energy surround them,” Hiei said.

Well how do we unshrink them to wear? I don't know magic!” complained Yusuke.

Kurama grinned as he headed out of the store, “I know exactly where we are going next, and I saw it on our way here.”

Yusuke groaned as they came into view of the bookstore he had also spotted on their search for a clothing store. Kurama headed right in and headed for the back to look around. Hiei and Yusuke stayed around the front, nether loving to read like Kurama did.

Hiei's eyes fell on a book lying on a table that read Wand Dueling Strategies. It never hurt to study the enemy and the way he fought.

Yusuke, completely bored out of his mind, moved over to a shelf of books and scanned the titles till one caught his attention, Your Guide to Ultimate Pranking. He grinned and picked it up, and had just sat down to read it when Kurama appeared with three large books, the one on top, and the thickest, had a worn brown leather covering and in gold was written History of Magic.

“Are you ready to go?” Kurama asked as he walked up.

“Is that even a question?” Yusuke asked as he followed Kurama to the counter.

Hiei saw them and joined them as well.

“Is this all you want?” asked the clerk as Kurama place his three books on the counter, along with Hiei and Yusuke's two.

“We also need our school books,” said Kurama as he pulled out the sheet of paper.

“Don't bother, what year?” asked the clerk.

“Sixth,” Kurama said. The man then produced three stacks of books. He took the books they had picked out along with the others and shrunk them all into a bag.

“That'll be 8 galleons and 11 sickles,” he said. Kurama again crossed his fingers as he pulled out the 8 galleons and 11 of the silver coins.

“Thank you, and have a good day,” the clerk said with a nod of his head as he went back to work putting up books.

“Now where?” Yusuke asked.

“Hum, the rest just seems to be things we'll need for class, we can go get those next,” Kurama said.

“Where do you think we should look?” asked Yusuke.

“There,” Kurama pointed across the street at a store with a big sign in front of it that read, `School Supplies!'

Yusuke rolled his eyes, “Smart ass.”

Kurama just grinned and walked over to the store. The same as the bookstore all they had to do was give their year and they where given their supplies. Kurama also found some trunks for them to put their stuff in, these were also shrunk and added to the bags. Hands now reasonable full they headed back to the pub to put up their stuff and get something to eat since they hadn't had any lunch.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three o'clock found the gang sitting at a round table at a small restaurant they had found. Yusuke and Kurama were now in the everyday clothing they had bought and Hiei was wearing his normal black attire seeing that it fit in. Kurama after scanning threw a magazine he had picked up for a few minutes had found a counter spell for the shrinking spell and had managed to change their things back to normal size.
“Man these sandwiches are the best!” Yusuke said finishing off his third sandwich.
“Their food's not that bad,” Kurama said taking another sip of his rabbit stew.
“We're coming here everyday!” Yusuke declared.
Hiei, quietly and very contently eating his vanilla/chocolate ice-cream swirl cone, nodded his agreement.
“So what's next on the list?” asked Yusuke sipping on his butter beer, he had been a little disappointed that it wasn't real beer.
“Hm, I think we've gotten everything,” Kurama answered scanning the list, “Well, there is one more thing, but it's optional. It says we can bring pets.”
“I wonder what type of `pets' this place has,” Yusuke remarked with a grin.
“I've noticed that they use birds to send messages, I think I might get one so I can write to my mom,” Kurama said.
“So next stop the pet store?” asked Yusuke picking up his trash along with Kurama's to go throw away.
“Guess so,” Kurama said. When Yusuke came back they headed to a corner store where a few birdcages hung outside the window and animals could be seen through the window on display.
They all entered the store and split up each going to look at an animal that had caught their eye. Kurama went to look at some weird colored rabbits. A grin crossed his face at how long a rabbit would last when he turned Yoko.
With the grin still on his face he moved on till he came to a cage full of fluff balls of all colors, and when he went to touch one they all went ballistic bouncing off the wall of their cage, making a high-pitched sound that hurt his ears. The rapidly bouncing balls of fur where quickly getting on his nerves so he turned away, his eyes landing on a raven, or so he thought. With weird rainbow rabbits and bouncing fluff balls he really wasn't to sure about anything in this store anymore.
Behind the raven's cage was a large cage of owls of all colors that took up the main part of the store, and then on ether side of the raven's cage were other exotic looking birds.
He did want a bird, he was sure of that, but he needed something smart.
He looked at a hawk that was sitting next to the raven's cage on a stick. It looked like a normal brown colored hawk, but had ruby red eyes like Hiei's. It studied everything about it, and its gaze quickly fell on Kurama. As he studied the bird he couldn't help but watch the raven as it inched closer and closer to the hawk's side of the cage. Then, very quickly, the raven grabbed the stick the hawk was perched on, unlodge it and causing the stick to fall along with a very upset, squawking hawk.
Hearing the noise the storeowner rushed over, quickly moving Kurama out of the way, cutting off his view of the raven and hawk. A little frustrated Kurama moved to the side so that he could see the birds again and had to put his hand up too stop laughing out loud.
“Ah, give me those back now you little thief you,” chided the storeowner as the raven danced just out of reach with a set of keys in its beck. Finally the storeowner gave up and opened the cage, but before she could grab the bird, it had flown away.
It was heading strait for the door, but unfortunately for it Kurama saw this and easily plucked the bird from the sky, quickly pining its wings to its side. Seeing defeat, the bird dropped the keys into Kurama's hand.
“Thank you so much young man, he does that every time, but normally I can catch him,” said the storeowner taking back the keys and bird. She put the bird back into the cage where it took to mopping about, its plan of freedom ruined.
Kurama gave the raven one more look before he turned to the storeowner and asked, “How much for it?”
“Oh, well, lets see; for the bird and the cage, it'll be 1 galleons and 9 sickles,” said the storeowner.
Kurama pulled the coins out of the bag and handed them to the lady and she handed him the cage.
“He's all yours, but I'll warn you now he gets into everything he can,” said the owner.
“What type of bird is he?” Kurama asked.
“He's a magical raven, quite rare, but very smart and very loyal once you earn their respect. Each one has a unique power, can't really say what his is, though,” answered the storeowner.
“And what will he eat?” Kurama asked.
“He'll eat almost any meat you give him and seeds, maybe some other stuff, but a good balance of seeds and meat will do,” she answered.
“Thank you,” he said as he headed towards the front where he waited for Yusuke and Hiei.
Yusuke showed up with a small carrier with a cover over the front and a low growl came from inside it.
“What did you get?” asked Kurama eyes narrowing suspiciously.
“Akuma meet Kurama,” Yusuke said with a grin as he lifted the cover so Kurama could see the black cat inside. It was about the size of a six to eight week old kitten, but other than that it looked nothing like a house cat, but more resembled a black panther. Right now it was snarling viciously at Kurama.
“Can you even pet it with out loosing something?” asked Kurama.
“Yeah, she likes me, but no anyone else,” Yusuke answered back with a shrug. Kurama just shook his head and looked up to see Hiei coming not carrying anything, that is until a black dragon appeared out of nowhere on his shoulder. The storeowner was following close behind him with a marked frown on her face.
“Kurama I need 10 galleons,” Hiei said crossing his arms.
“Oh, I forgot I need 8 galleons and 5 sickles,” Yusuke added.
Kurama sighed and counted out the coins and handed them to the owner. Looking back into the bag Kurama frowned noticing that almost all of the gold and silver coins were gone leaving mainly bronze ones, and -- a golden key? Puzzling over the key, Kurama motioned for the others to follow him out of the store.
“Come on, we better get back to our rooms before we find anything else to buy because we're almost out of money,” Kurama said.
